SWTOR Server Merges and BioWare Austin Layoffs Bring Out the “I Told You So’s”

With SWTOR server mergers imminent and the big layoffs at BioWare Austin, many SWTOR haters are coming out to say “I told you so!”

This really has me thinking, is SWTOR really that bad or are some people just bored or vindictive and looking for something new to troll?

While some circumstances do seem to show SWTOR on a decline, there is no solid evidence at this time that the game is sinking, going under or failing. There are still many active players and subscriptions and with all the new promised content, there’s no reason many more players won’t join or come back on board.

BioWare responded to the layoffs but as Massively reports, the response was a little weak:

Despite the layoffs, Lusinchi said that the development team is still “one of the biggest” in the industry and has detailed plans for SWTOR’s future. Still, that didn’t make dealing with the realities of the job cuts any easier.

“”On a personal level it’s quite difficult to have people that you’ve been working with for a long time that you know personally, you go to their barbecue and you meet their families and it’s never easy,” he said. “I doubt it’d be easy in any industry for anyone, but it happens.”

While that might all be true, it sounds a little like back-pedaling and this has brought out the trolls in full force.

I wasn’t really happy with Lusinchi’s response either. He sounded like he didn’t know all the facts or just didn’t know how to respond to the question on the spot with something that would favor BioWare. That’s just bad business. When you go to an interview, you pretty much need to be expecting journalists and interviewers to bring on the tough questions and try to get you on the spot.

Regardless of how he stumbled and fumbled over the question, there is still no solid proof that the game is going down the tubes. And despite the layoffs, why would they be putting more time and energy into game updates if it was a sinking ship?

Players complained and BioWare took action. They’re changing and adding to the game to please the gamers as best they can. A game company that was going to trash the whole project wouldn’t take the time. They wouldn’t listen to play feedback or communicate the way BioWare is and they would not spend the time making changes, additions and future game updates.

Does this mean SWTOR will be around for decades pleasing the masses? Maybe not but for right now, I’m just not convinced it’s dead.

As for those “I told you so!” criers, why is it they always seem to come out after others become disgruntled with a game? They want to jump in and point the finger and proclaim “That game suxxors and you’re dumb if you play it” but why is it worth the effort. If a game doesn’t appeal to you; don’t play it.

It’s as simple as that.
