SWTOR news on Character Slot Post Merge

Eric Musco took on the forums to update the community on the  character slots increases post server merge. One of the questions that has come up regarding United Forces is character slots and what will be happening for everyone. After the update, it is possible that a player could have more characters than they have slots currently. For subscribers they will still be able to play all of their characters (even if they go over their slots) but they can’t make any new characters. We wanted to do our best to alleviate some of the issues for not only subscribers, but F2P and preferred status players as well. Here is what you can expect to see changed on November 8 alongside United Forces: F2P players will have a default of 4 characters per server (up from 2) Preferred players will have a default of 12 characters per server(up from 6)…

SWTOR: Update on the Status of Server Mergers

SWTOR Game Producer Keith Kanneg, took on the forums to update the community on the forthcoming Server Mergers: Hi all, Today’s maintenance was part of the United Forces effort! We have completed the upgrade of the Game Servers along with all their supporting infrastructure in the Data Centers. We made a large investment of new hardware and software and one of our primary goals was to substantially reduce our footprint while improving our overall server capacity. During our evaluation of the new servers, we determined we could also combine our North American datacenters. That also occurred today and we have officially moved out of our West Coast location. Our testing showed no impact on the gameplay experience, but we expect some of you playing on formerly West Coast servers may see higher ping times. We’ll use the next two weeks to smooth out any kinks and resolve any performance issues…

SWTOR Character Transfers – Important Update

Bioware’a Eric Musco took on the forums, announcing the cost of Character Transfers have increased to 1000 CC from the previously discounted 90 CC. Chekc it out: Character Transfers – Important Update | 04.19.2016, 12:49 PM Hey folks, Heads up on a change that is coming next Tuesday (4/26). Leading up to the Fallen Empire launch, we greatly reduced the cost of Character Transfers from 1,800 CC down to 90 CC. This was done to accommodate players who were interested in transferring characters to join their friends who were returning to or joining the game. This was a limited time offer which will be coming to an end. Starting Tuesday, the new price will be 1,000 CC which is adjusted to below the former rate of 1,800 CC. We feel this gives our players the option to Transfer at a reasonable rate while being in line with other services we…

SWToR server issues lead to Patch 2.9.0d

It’s no secret that since yesterday a number of SWToR servers have experienced a series of issues. Lag spikes, dropped connections and queues started with the Harbinger server, and then expanded to Begeren Colony and the Bastion. These issues forced Bioware to take these servers offline for maintenance today. According to an official post by Eric Musco at the SWToR community forums, players in the Harbinger server experienced some “rollback” after the server’s downtime. Musco was also quick to point out that no other servers were going to be affected by this issue. The situation eventually lead to the announcement of Patch 2.9.0d set to be deployed tomorrow.

Only a few days remaining to voluntarily transfer off the SWTOR APAC servers

Just a heads up that On Tuesday, August 13 the APAC servers will be demolished and all characters on them forcibly transferred to a new server. Eric Musco writes;; Hey folks, Just to clear up any confusion from the email yesterday, the consolidations are going to happen on August 13th as listed, which is quite a bit more than one week away. That actually gives you approximately three weeks before the consolidations happen. Just to reiterate, the consolidation will happen in approximately three weeks on August 13th. Sorry for the confusion, thanks everyone! -eric For those of you that will be affected by this consolidation, here  the following servers tranfers: Dalborra -> The Harbinger Master Dar’Nala -> The Bastion Gav Daragon -> Bergeren Colony If you’d like to actually choose where your APAC character ends up (you can pick from any non-Asia-Pacific server), you need to follow these instructions: Go…

Paid Transfers Delayed til 2.2.1

Apparently payed transfers are delayed again. This is abit of a bummer since they said transfers would be “right on the heels” of 2.1. Even thought disappointing you have to appreciate that they are trying not to bungle this when they launch it. If you pay $15 to transfer a character you will want all of the benefits of that character to also be transferred with them. The official forums are convinced that this delay will ruin the game and kill swtor. =) EricMusco Scheduled Maintenance: June 11th, 2013 [POSTPONED] | 06.10.2013, 03:19 PM Hey folks, I wanted to give you an update on Paid Character Transfers since I know you have been curious about it with the delay of 2.2. Unfortunately, we have come across some bugs that are present with Character Transfers, specifically around Achievements. We definitely want to insure that we are providing the best service possible when…

APAC/Oceanic Servers closing down

BioWare just sent a mail to all Asia Pacific players letting them know that servers will be closing down within the next few months. All players have been offered free server transfers, and remaining toons will be moved to west coast servers when the servers are taken offline. This doesn’t come as a shock to many people, but finally we got official confirmation about the shot down: IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM STAR WARS™: THE OLD REPUBLIC™ Asia Pacific Server Consolidation / Free Character Transfer Greetings , We wanted to inform you that we are preparing to consolidate our Asia Pacific servers into our current West Coast North American servers. This will occur sometime in the next few months. Each of your characters on an Asia Pacific server is now allowed a free one-time transfer to any non-Asia Pacific server. APAC/Oceanic Server Merges

Earlier today Community Manager Eric Musco made a forum update regarding the Oceanic issues, with low server population. After careful consideration, and reading though pages after pages of forum rage, BioWare will be merging the oceanic servers into the north American servers. This will off course give the APAC players alot more people to play with, but people are raising their concern about ping time. I personally have no problems as a European when I occasionally play on US servers, but what experience do you guys have? Hey everyone, I have an update for you on our long term plans for the APAC servers. Before I do that though I want to let you know up front that we still have quite a bit of work to do to make this happen so I cannot provide any timeframes for you today. We know that when we asked you, the community,…

News on the Oceanic Server Population Issues

It’s no secret that the Oceanic servers didn’t get a server merge. This means they are basically dead now. Most people on the servers have been asking for a merge or for free transfers, but with f2p coming out, Bioware have been hesitating giving players this option. This has off course been frustrating for players down under, but BioWare are now looking for a solution to the problem. Today Community Manager Joveth Gonzalez made a post on the official forums giving an update on the issue and starting to re-open the dialogue: Hi everyone, I know it’s been a while since we’ve updated this thread, and I wanted to let you know that we haven’t forgotten about our Oceanic players. Now that we’re at a more stable point in time (post Free-to-Play transition and post holidays), we wanted to re-examine this issue. We’re going to be completely honest with you: there…

Server merges happen today, plus allowed characters bumped to 12 for everyone

We have known for a couple months now that Mega servers were on the way.  We have now reached the last part of the process as BioWare merging the last servers today. Earlier this summer we launched the Free Character Transfer Program which offered players the option to transfer their characters from specific origin servers to selected destination servers. Following the success of the Free Character Transfer Program, and after closely monitoring server populations, we have now taken the next step in our on-going server population balancing process. We have upgraded destination servers in order to support a significantly higher number of players. As of tomorrow, all characters on origin servers will be automatically moved onto the upgraded high population destination servers. By centralizing our player populations on these higher population destination servers, we feel that we can offer our players the best possible Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ experience. As a…

All game servers and SWTOR.com will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended. Quite often (but not always) after a maintenance period there will be a patch to download….

SWTOR: True Server Merge Coming Later this Summer?

While they are still not saying “merge”, it seems a true merge is incoming later this summer. Many people are talking about a server merge on a greater scale and while BioWare is not actually using that terminology, it does seem like this might be what’s happening coming soon. And will it be such a bad thing? Seems like all the players I have talked to say if it makes the game better and gives them more people to play with, they’re ok with whatever BioWare needs to do. In a blog on the official servers, BioWare explains more about the Free Character Transfer Service, server populations and what that means to you and me: Hi everyone, We want to thank all players that have participated in our Free Character Transfer Service.  With strong destination server populations, we hope that you’re enjoying the improved gameplay experience and are excited about…

Current Available Transfers – Complete List June 13

Well, here we are on day 2 of server transfers and it seems some of the kinks are getting worked out. We brought you details of the server transfers yesterday but it does seem that more details are being worked out regarding server transfers. Some players were having issues with moving all 8 characters to a new server. On the last one, they would get a hangup and it would not transfer. BioWare kindly provided this workaround on the forums: We have a workaround for this issue: Log into the server where you have 7 successfully transferred characters Create a new character, species/profession are not important Once you are through the login intro, log back out to character select Delete the new character. Return to the character transfer page, and it should correctly list 7 characters on the destination server Should you require any further assistance, please post here. Reddit…

Will it Help SWTOR to Get Megaservers?

Big changes and additions are happening with SWTOR. In addition to the announcement of the new patch (1.3) coming soon, there was also a big exodus at the BioWare Austin studio. This was a huge disappointment to me because I went there, toured the studio with David Bass, saw employees hard and work and also saw how much all of the staff there seemed to care so much about their job. It really is a sad day to see so many people let go who really cared about the game and have put so many years of hard work into the game. Of course it is the nature of the game that staff gets let go from a video game project once the game is launched and less work is needed for it but letting community manager Stephen Reid go was a real blow. Why would a successful game let…

Daniel Erickson reveals plan to merge into super-servers!

Here is an interesting piece of news.  In an interview with PC Gamer, our main man Daniel Erickson, spilled the beans about the upcoming serve transfers.   Answering a question about the upcoming changes in patch 1.3 regarding the group finder tool, Mr. Erickson had an interesting answer: From the interview: PCG: Will they be cross-server at launch? Is that planned for the future? DE: They will not be cross-server as we are coming up on a huge move to servers with massively higher population caps than we have today. So  is that how they’re going to (more or less) avoid the stigma of server mergers?  Best they could do, I guess.  No more low-pop servers, same-server Group Finder viable… nice! I, for one, will welcome our new super-server overlords.

News concerning transfers and group-finder can come as soon as next week.

Mr. Stepehn Reid shared some interesting info on twitter yesterday. Apparently we are getting closer to a server merge. This is great news as many servers feel like ghost towns after Diablo 3 launched. This is not because  SWTOR is dying, but the game got 280+ servers. TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY! Now, iIf you take that 280 servers then break it down into how many freaking instances and individual planets and other zones it’s no wonder the game feels like a ghost town. I play on one of the healthiest servers and I still find the population lacking compared to release. I think I haven’t fought a single Empire on PvP Warzones for the past week with my 50s toons. Merging servers now will solve the group/operations finder problem, PvP problems, lack of items on GTNs… I wonder who in BioWare can’t figure this out now. They need to merge servers if not now at…

SWTOR Faction Balance and Population Numerical Data

Here’s some really interesting information about US PvE/RP servers regarding faction balance and population. If you love data (like me), you’re going to appreciate this one. There’s not a lot of current information out about the server population. Which servers are over populated? Which servers are dead? Are you looking to join a server that will have people to play with regularly or do you want a low-pop server where you can just do your own thing? This is valuable information for any gamer and a poster at Reddit has helped us out with some data: That being said, there has being hardly any numerical data on the server population and Imperial/Republic balance. Bioware is unlikely to release this data anytime soon, if ever. I went to 79 PVE/RP servers and created two level 1 characters per server over the span of 3-4 days and recorded the population data for…
