What Star Wars: Battlefront Needs for a Great eSports Scene

What Star Wars Battlefront Needs for a Great eSports Scene

Ten years on from the superb Star Wars: Battlefront II from Pandemic Studios and LucasArts in 2005, and following many rumours about a third edition to the Battlefront series, EA DICE and Electronic Arts released the much-hyped Star Wars: Battlefront in 2015. With stunning graphics and the chance to play as iconic characters and classes from the epic film franchise, people were over the moon with the chance to finally play another triple-A Star Wars game. Lacking in depth, but coming with a rather grubby DLC line-up, fans had high hopes that the sequel, Star Wars: Battlefront II in 2017 would improve on the first of the reboot games. Sadly, mired in controversy of bad publishing practices, Battlefront II was an utter disappointment. EA DICE have tried to earn back community support with a stream of updates that continue to this day, but instead, much of the community has reverted…

Star Wars Battlefront 2 - Chosen One patch notes

Here are the full patchnotes for yesterdays game update for Star Wars: Battelfront. There are big changes coming to the Clone Trooper legions with each Trooper Class now getting their own look, relevant to the legion that they are a part of. This also sees the first time that Officers will be able to equip Clone Trooper armour. Additionally, there’s been a lot of discussion around stuns and their effect on the flow of gameplay. With stuns now having a lower duration and a short immunity once you have been stunned, we’re looking forward to seeing how these changes improve the experience. ANAKIN SKYWALKER Anakin’s power and skill were virtually unmatched, though his overconfidence and anger could get the better of him. Even still, when innocent people were in danger, he would never hesitate to put his life on the line to save them. When his friends needed his help,…

The developers over at DICE posted a behind-the-scenes look on how they arebringing The Chosen One to life. Star Wars Battlefront 2 Progress Update on New Mode + Emote Wheel

The Star Wars: Battelfront 2 team over at DICE posted a new Community Transmission: To start things off, we wanted to talk a little about the upcoming, non-linear game mode since it’s been such a popular topic in the community. Development is progressing well, but we wanted to let you know that we’ve made the very tough decision to move the release of the new game mode into March. At the core of this choice is our desire to keep the quality of this mode high. It’s always disappointing when we have to move things around, not just for you but for ourselves as well. We’re incredibly eager to see the new game mode hit our live servers, but we also want to ensure that when it launches it’s the best state it can be. However, this extra time is also allowing us to create two brand new reinforcements which we want…

Star Wars: Battlefront 3 Is Coming Out

After long and tedious debates around the monetary concept of Star Wars: Battlefront 2, the sequel to the action game may finally be released in fiscal 2020. During the Q3 2018 earnings call, Electronic Arts (aka EA) announced that Stars Wars: Battlefront 3 will be launched by Respawn Entertainment — a company acquired by EA in November 2017 — between April 2019 and March 2020.   The release of the next Star Wars game looked bleak as early as in the middle of 2018 when the video gaming industry was shaken by a startling comparison of loot boxes with gambling. The so-called packs (that were also peculiar to Star Wars: Battlefront 2) required a stroke of luck and a great deal of money to get a certain item. Such a combination was then considered as gambling, equating loot boxes with vintage slots, roulette, and other casino games of chance. The…

Why Star Wars Battlefront Could Have Been Successful in E-sports

Star Wars is one of the biggest franchises in the world, with scores of loyal fans ready to immerse themselves into the lush environments of the forest moon of Endor. Battlefront had mixed reviews when it came out, but there was one point of general consensus: it was able to recreate the popular Star Wars experience authentically. Fans thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of flying Tie-Fighters over Tatooine and taking down AT-ATs. However, as any gaming enthusiast who is also a Star Wars fan will tell you, Star Wars Battlefront is a game that did not make full use of its potential. Yes, the game still has enough of a dedicated following that its game modes can be kept active, but it simply wasn’t as successful as had been anticipated. However, there’s one simple change that could have caused the game to do much better: becoming an eSports title. Yes, Star…

EA Claims Star Wars Battlefront II Controversy Will Change How They Make Games

Electronic Arts, the publisher behind the 2017 game Star Wars Battlefront II has claimed that the controversy surrounding the game has changed how the company will design and release games in the future. The backlash towards Battlefront II began before the title even hit stores. During the pre-release beta testing mode of the sequel to the 2015 title Star Wars Battlefront, gamers grew frustrated with the in-game progression. EA created a loot box system and in-game currency which could be used to purchase new and improved heroes which were not based on player performance. Some of the most iconic heroes in Star Wars history were initially locked out for players and, as Polygon claimed at the time, players were expected to put in 40 hours in-game in order to unlock characters like Darth Vader. The anger grew, especially when EA attempted to solve the problem. The company’s customer service department…

DICE is Working on Something New for Star Wars Battlefront II

No, it’s not new content (yet), but we did see an update that DICE is working on something new for Star Wars Battlefront II. The long-awaited update that focuses on both cosmetics and a new game mode is finally here. With it can a customization system and microtransaction. This is different from the original plan for microtransactions (that made players angry) because it will be used for cosmetics only – nothing that will help you gain an advantage in the actual game. This has been a long-standing request from the community and they’ve finally delivered, so say goodbye to pay-to-win scenarios. So, now what’s happening with Battlefront II? Since the update is out, are they all done with content at this time? Maybe not. There’s also been an ongoing request for squad system improvements. The current squad system is very basic and players have been asking for more. Basically, you just…
