5 upcoming Star Wars games to prepare for

Since 1977, when the first film from the “Star Wars” franchise was released, its popularity has remained significant. Additional movies, series, animated productions, merch, and games have been continuously produced to this day. The franchise, with one of the biggest fanbases in the world, is also continuing to shine on the internet, especially in the gaming industry.

The blockbuster has a global box office revenue of 10.33 billion dollars as of July 2023, being second only to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The last movie released right before the pandemic, “The Rise of Skywalker,” was considerably successful, but many others will be released. For example, in 2026, we’ll be able to see the story of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” and numerous TBA movies will follow.

The gaming sector is as productive and profitable, with the latest “Star Wars Jedi: Survivor” generating positive reviews. But besides past developments, more will come, so let’s see what the upcoming Star Wars games are.

Star Wars Outlaws to be released in August 2024

Star Wars Outlaws is set in the Star Wars universe and will be released by Ubisoft. The timeline of the game is somewhere between the Empire Strikes Back (episode five) and Return of the Jedi (episode six). The gameplay will be single-play as third-person, and you will be able to combat in vehicles and space and practice stealth.

The story behind it includes two characters who plan to commit a massive interplanetary heist, such as Tatooine or Kijimi. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series, and the release date is currently set for 30 August 2024.

Empire Strikes Back was so good that it even influenced various series, such as Stranger Things. The Duffer Brothers stated that the episode influenced the entire fourth season, which is why you’ll see references spread across episodes of villain characters that are becoming incapacitated heroes. Being a fan of both franchises is indeed exciting, so you may want to get the Stranger Things Funko collection next to the Star Wars one.

Star Wars: Hunters to be released in June 2024

The Star Wars: Hunters game has been delayed numerous times. It was supposed to appear in 2021 but received a yearly delay, so it’s now expected to be released in 2024. Gamers will be able to play the game on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, and it will take them to the aftermath of the Galactic Empire.

The gaming technique is a squad-based arena shooter in which you can play in Star Wars-based locations with characters from the franchise, such as Wookiees or Stormtroopers. A cinematic trailer is available if you want to see how the game is supposed to look, and pre-registrations are open, so you’ll know what to expect.

Respawn Star Wars game to be confirmed

The Respawn gaming developer company announced a Star Wars-inspired strategy game as a first-person shooter. The user will be a Mandalorian bounty hunter as a Beskar. The focus will be on speed and mobility, but since the initial team will collaborate with another company, the game will surprise the audience.

So far, the public has not been provided with any information about how the game will be, so we only know about the past struggle to develop it. EA canceled the game some time ago due to massive layoffs, which seemed rushed since The Mandalorian was greatly executed. Even though EA has the STAR Wars license, we still don’t know the underlying reason for this disappointing decision.

Star Wars: Eclipse to be confirmed

Star Wars Eclipse is one of the most promising games in the franchise, and it has a considerable budget program for development. Although it has been announced, it might take some more time for the game to be released since the team is working from two different countries, France and Canada.

According to past playing types from the developing teams, the game might be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. There’s only one trailer for the game, which shows some CG scenes and not shots from the game, but it amazingly depicts the High Republic era. The narrative will include characters like the Jedi Knights, the Nihil, and the Sith.

Knights of the Old Republic: Remake

The remake of the Knights of the Old Republic will deliver a new and updated version of the 2003 RPG that everyone loved playing. Now, PC and PS5 gamers will be able to access it with better looks and explore various adventures along with Darth Raven. With little information from a short teaser and no further information, fans will have to wait a long time until the game provides additional data about the release date, especially since the project was delayed.

While the original game allowed gamers to create their own journey in the galaxy with different customizable characters, we’re still waiting to see if the remake will follow a different path because even if it would not include much newness, the modern graphics, and improved technology would definitely make the game great.

A notable mention: Star Wars game from Skydance New Media

There’s another notable mention in the game sector from the Star Wars franchise, but little is known about the project. The well-known Amy Hennig will direct the game, which is supposed to be narrative-driven and an action-adventure, most probably a revival of previous Star Wars projects.

However, why are there so many challenges in creating the games?

Fans are wondering why it takes so long to create a proper Star Wars game and why developing companies delay them. Well, the thing is that partnerships between different collaborators don’t always align perfectly, especially since establishing a Star Wars universe as a game requires a lot of time and resources. Therefore, some directors choose partners who can do the job at optimal time but don’t properly focus on the story.

What do you think about the upcoming Star Wars games?

The Star Wars franchise is one of the most popular and loved in the world and has expanded from movies and series to multi-player or single games, where fans can better explore the galaxy and stories about famous characters. So, as technology develops and innovative ideas are created, we’ll see more games made by renowned developers in the future.
