MAUL – SHADOW LORD has a writer with some serious Star Wars pedigree.

Matt Michnovetz, who is writing the upcoming animated series, has quietly been one of the franchise’s most influential storytellers for over a decade. If his résumé feels familiar, that’s because many of Star Wars’ darkest, most character-driven arcs trace back to his work.

A Legacy Built on the Dark Side and Moral Gray Areas

Long before Maul – Shadow Lord entered development, Michnovetz helped shape some of the most unsettling and memorable moments in Star Wars animation.

Rebels, The Bad Batch, and the Long View of the Galaxy

Beyond Maul, Michnovetz contributed 10 episodes to Star Wars Rebels, helping shape the show’s balance between personal stakes and galactic consequences.

He also wrote “Return to Kamino” and several additional episodes for Star Wars: The Bad Batch, including involvement in the Bad Batch’s introduction arc during Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7—a season that leaned heavily into loss, inevitability, and the end of an era.

Most recently, his fingerprints can be felt in Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, which once again centers on characters living in the shadows rather than the spotlight.
