Colonel Ward Joins Galaxy of Heroes as a New Republic Punisher

The New Republic squad in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is getting another very specific kind of problem-solver: Colonel Ward, a Light Side Support unit built to expose enemies, punish bad targeting, and make counterattacks much nastier.

EA and Capital Games have revealed the full kit for Colonel Ward in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, confirming her as a Light Side Support character in the New Republic faction.

And she is clearly not here to stand in the back and politely cheer.

Colonel Ward is designed to slot into the New Republic squad led by Captain Carson Teva, where her job is to make enemies pay for hiding, attacking the wrong targets, or trying to work around Taunt.

A Support Unit Built Around Punishment

Ward’s kit is all about pressure through debuffs.

Her basic ability, A180 Blaster Pistol, deals Physical damage and inflicts Evasion Down. If it is Ward’s turn, she also applies Defense Down, giving the New Republic squad another way to soften targets before the real out-of-turn madness begins.

That matters because this team is clearly being built around counterattacks and punishing enemies for trying to be clever.

Ward is not a big flashy damage dealer. She is the person in the squad pointing at the target and saying, “Yes, that one. Make their day worse.”

New Republic’s Most Wanted Makes Stealth Less Safe

Her first special, New Republic’s Most Wanted, is where things start getting annoying for the enemy team.

The ability dispels all debuffs on a target ally, then gives that ally a bonus effect: the next time they counterattack, they inflict Evasion Down. More importantly, Ward dispels Stealth from all enemies. Any enemy that loses Stealth this way becomes Marked for two turns.

That is a very direct answer to teams that rely on hiding key characters.

She also inflicts Critical Damage Down and Expose on all enemies for two turns, helping set up the New Republic’s frequent out-of-turn attacks. The kit notes make the design intention very clear: Ward helps funnel the team’s counterattacks into the most important enemy targets.

In other words, Stealth is not a plan. It is an invitation.

X-haul Fly-by Brings the Big Team Pressure

Ward’s second special, X-haul Fly-by, deals Physical damage to all enemies and inflicts Burning and Healing Immunity for two turns.

That Healing Immunity can be especially nasty when timed with other New Republic tools, including R5-D4’s Bad Motivator. It also ties into her Unique ability, where using X-haul Fly-by in the right situation can help trigger a mass assist.

The ability name comes from Ward’s ship, giving her a clear hero moment in the kit. It is also the kind of move that turns her from quiet support into full “New Republic paperwork has failed, send the fly-by” mode.

New Republic Officer Is the Real Engine

Ward’s Unique ability, New Republic Officer, is where the kit becomes very Grand Arena-shaped.

Whenever a Support or Healer ally is damaged while an ally is Taunting, Ward inflicts Evasion Down on the attacker. If all allies were New Republic at the start of battle, enemies who damage a Taunting Tank can also be Ability Blocked.

The bigger trick involves On the Run, the stacking effect that lowers Evasion and Tenacity, then eventually resets into Max Health damage and bonus turns. Ward’s kit adds more ways to apply and punish On the Run, especially in Grand Arenas.

At the start of Grand Arena battles, New Republic allies gain Potency and Tenacity for each New Republic ally. If all allies are New Republic, enemies begin with two stacks of On the Run. When enemies gain stacks, Ward can add even more, and when they take damage from On the Run, they are also Exposed.

That is not subtle.

That is the New Republic turning enemy mistakes into a spreadsheet of consequences.

A Stronger Identity for the New Republic Squad

What makes Colonel Ward interesting is not just that she adds more debuffs. It is that she sharpens the identity of the whole New Republic squad.

Captain Carson Teva’s team already leans into Taunt, counterattacks, and out-of-turn pressure. Ward adds the targeting control, Stealth punishment, Expose setup, Healing Immunity, Burning, Ability Block, and On the Run escalation that makes those counterattacks feel more threatening.

She is not designed to reinvent the faction. She is designed to make the New Republic squad feel more complete.

For a game that keeps expanding the playable corners of the galaxy, from major icons to very specific faction pieces, Ward fits neatly into the wider history of Star Wars games turning deep-cut characters into tactical tools.

The New Republic Gets Meaner

Colonel Ward may not be the flashiest arrival in Galaxy of Heroes, but her kit has a clear purpose.

She punishes Stealth. She punishes AoE attacks. She punishes enemies for hitting Support and Healer allies while a Tank is doing their job. She feeds counterattack teams, spreads Expose, and makes On the Run more dangerous in Grand Arenas.

That is a lot of quiet violence for a Support unit.

The New Republic squad is not just getting another character.

It is getting someone who makes the enemy regret taking a turn.
