It’s official: Star Wars comics will return to Marvel in 2015

Marvel will publish new “Star Wars” comic books beginning in 2015, the company announced yesterday. This means Dark Horse Comics is losing the licensing deal its had for over 20 years, but give Dark Horse the time to wrap up storylines in current series. Its first was Tom Veitch and Cam Kennedy’s “Dark Empire,” in 1989. The first Star Wars comics were originally published by Marvel in the ’70s based on the original “Star Wars” trilogy for nine years, starting in 1977. “Star Wars #1″ sold more than 1 million copies. Now the rights have returned to Marvel, which plans to release its first new-new Star Wars comics and graphic novels in 2015. Perhaps uncoincidentally, 2015 is also the year that J.J. Abrams’ yet-untitled Star Wars film is scheduled to hit theaters. Here is a snippet from the press release sent out: The Walt Disney Company’s Lucasfilm Ltd. and Marvel…

Exclusive to USA Today The Star Wars Trailer

Before Star Wars, there was The Star Wars! This is the authorized adaptation of George Lucas’s rough-draft screenplay of what would eventually become a motion picture that would change the world. We’re talking about Lucas’ original galaxy as it was conceived in “The Star Wars” and the Dark Horse Comics series will show you a new side of Star Wars that you have probably never seen before. See the exclusive trailer here: USA Today got the exclusive on the trailer and brings us a little background info: Luke Skywalker as an old, gray-haired general? Darth Vader as just a dude? Han Solo — secret-agent lizard? The new Dark Horse Comics series The Star Warssounds like alternate-universe weirdness for fans of George Lucas’ influential sci-fi franchise. Instead, it’s just the filmmaker’s first pass at his galaxy far, far away. The eight-issue comic launching Sept. 4 is an adaptation of Lucas’…

Dallas Comic-Con May 17-19, 2013 Interview and Pictures

Dallas Comic Con was this weekend and despite storms and tornados that ravished the area, many managed to have a great deal of fun at the event. One of those somebodies was a friend of a good friend of mine, named David Gillaspy who was kind enough to answer some of my questions about the event. And he even shared some awesome photos with me! I’m so jealous because I really wish I could have been there but thanks to David, I get to share a little piece of it with you. Here’s a short interview I did with him, along with some of his photos: What was your favorite costume/cosplay? I would have to say it was the guy who came in the working Warmachine armor from Iron Man 2. Did you get any cool autographs? Yes, Ernie Hudson was the first guy we met when we got there…

SWTOR Cosplay Comicbook

It’s time for another feature of SWTOR Cosplay swagger! This one is a special treat that has been out there for a while but most of us never even knew about it. It’s short, so take your time appreciating all the work that went into it, from costume design, backdrop, photography, post-production effects, etc, etc. In my opinion this is total genius and something to learn from for all Cosplayers. With that being said … We present you Issue One of Star Wars: The Old Republic – Arandani Comic: First Encounter, by Arandani Studios. But before all that, we flashback to Captain Kadd Aradan doing a drop on Ord Mantell moments right before the ambush. That’s all for now. A very enticing introduction, with blasters, double bladed lightsabers , Cathers, Sith Inquisitors and Scoundrels. What more can you ask for? More issues? Hell yeah! I really hope they make more,…

Star Wars Comics License Returning To Marvel?

The guys over at Blue Sky Disney reports that it’s all but  that Disney won’t be renewing Dark Horse’s contract to publish Star Wars comics, and that the Star Wars comics will return to their original home: Fellow Disney brand Marvel. “The Suits in the know have determined that no new contracts will be given to Dark Horse after the current ones expire. So all new projects after 2013 will be handled internally by Marvel.” The report continues: “It’s not known yet if titles will be worked into the regular line up, or will Marvel create a special branch of the company that deals with Star Wars. It’ll take a couple of years for the old deals to work there course, but the stories that Dark Horse have coming down the pipeline will be the last. And you can expect anything new from Marvel dealing with Star Wars to arrive around 2015.” When you think of…

Here’s your first look at the Star Wars of 25,000 years ago–before there were lightsabers, when the ties to the Force were new,…

At New York Comic Con, Dark Horse announced the next installment in the life of Knights of the Old Republic hero, young Zayne Carrick. He’s not a Jedi and the Mandalorians are invading — and with his homeworld of Phaeda under threat, Zayne’s luck holds true. He gets drafted!” He continues: “It really is a true jumping-on point.
