Keanu Reeves Almost Cast in The Acolyte

Keanu Reeves Almost Cast in The Acolyte: What Could Have Been

The Acolyte, the upcoming Star Wars series, reportedly came close to featuring Hollywood icon Keanu Reeves in a major role. According to film insider Jeff Sneider, Reeves was considered for the role of Jedi Master Sol, which eventually went to Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae. However, scheduling conflicts with Reeves’ commitments to the John Wick spinoff Ballerina prevented the casting from materializing.

Reeves was reportedly eager to join the project, especially since it would have reunited him with his Matrix co-star Carrie-Anne Moss, who also appeared in The Acolyte. Despite missing out on this opportunity, insiders suggest that Reeves may still be involved in the Star Wars universe in the future.

The Controversy and Cancellation

The show faced controversy when Moss’ character was killed off early, despite her being heavily featured in the marketing materials. Additionally, The Acolyte will not see a second season, as it was canceled due to underwhelming viewership on Disney+, rather than due to online criticism or review bombing.

What’s Next?

Although Reeves didn’t make it into The Acolyte, there’s still hope for fans who want to see him in the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm remains interested in the actor, and there’s speculation that he could appear in future projects.

While The Acolyte didn’t become the hit Disney had hoped for, the potential of Reeves joining the Star Wars franchise remains an exciting possibility. As the series streams on Disney+, fans can only imagine how different things might have been if Reeves had been able to take on the role.
