Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes – Character Release and Event Cadence

Here is the latest developer blog from the guys over at Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. This one is addressing a lot of questions people have asked, and clarifies the character release cadence and explains the details of Marquee events. Hello my Holotable Friends! Recently Carrie introduced me as Nick Reinhart in the Developer Q&A, but you all know me more commonly on the forums as CG_TopHat. I’m the Live Producer on the team which, admittedly, sounds like a made-up job. The Live team is responsible for the day to day stuff that you do in Galaxy of Heroes. We plan and design characters and ships, events, and raids, are responsible for the tuning of the game, and a myriad of other things. We also schedule the majority of stuff on a monthly basis and we’d like to update and clarify a few things around the character release cadence, as well as Marquee, Legendary, and Hero’s…

Bastila Shan: A Star Wars Story

Here’s another great Star Wars Story video from The Scoundrel’s Cantina. I’m a huge fan of Bastila Shan so I was actually really excited to see what they were going to do with this one. It was a pleasant watch, like all of their Star Wars Story videos. It’s about five minutes long, so really a short watch but they pack a lot of info in that five minutes. Grab a snack and give it a watch! Not familiar with Bastila? Bastila Shan was a Human female who served as a Jedi Padawan during the Jedi Civil War. Born on the planet Talravin to Helena Shan and a treasure hunter, her mother gave her up to the Jedi Order, believing that their lifestyle of travel and exertions was not suitable for her daughter. Bastila Shan: A Star Wars Story! From The Scoundrel’s Cantina: “In this video we are mixing both the Expanded Universe and the “Official” Star Wars Canon. This is the way we look…

SWTOR: Conquest Changes in Game Update 5.9

As a follow up on the revamp of the Conquest system we got with SWTOR Game Update 5.8, The Bioware team will continue to make changes to it. So today Eric Musco took on the forums informing what we can expect with game update 5.9 Hey folks, With the 5.8a Conquest changes out the door, let’s talk about what we have planned for 5.9. We hope to address concerns over the viability of completing Conquests on alts, points for crafting, and ability to run Operations more frequently. We are going to address this through a few different changes: Increasing points gains for Objectives for repeatable and daily repeatable Objectives. An additional buff for GSF, Warzone, and Flashpoint Participation Objectives. The “Play a Flashpoint” Objective is being changed to “Play a Flashpoint or Uprising.” The “Kill X Enemies” Daily Objective will now be split into three Objectives. Kill 50 / 100 /…

Mr. Plinkett’s The Star Wars Awakens Review

In the mood for a cynical review? Are you not feeling as enchanted with the new Star Wars movies as everyone else seems to be? Here’s an oldie you may have missed – or maybe you didn’t, but it never hurts to give it another watch. It’s long, so pop some popcorn or find your favorite snacks and let’s settle in for some very opinionated Star Wars chat. You know we love Star Wars here. I’ve loved Star Wars since my earliest memory and writing for this site for so many years has been one of my greatest pleasures. That said, there are still things that can annoy me about the franchise. Can you relate? I’m not a 100% unconditional fangirl. This is even truer since Disney took over and the franchise we grew up loving started living by the Mouse’s rules. Still, anything that brings more Star Wars into our…

Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes: Dev Blog – Communication on Galaxy of Heroes

The devs over at Star Wars: Galaxy of heroes posted a new developer blog were they talk about how they plan to communicate with players in the future. It all seems very promising. They are following through on what they said they would do. Looks like they are taking what has been communicated to heart. We shall see… Check it out below: ntro I joined the Galaxy of Heroes team in mid-2016 to ensure the Ships feature launched on time. By the time I joined much of what makes Galaxy of Heroes special to the players was already defined. Since then, I became the Lead Producer on Galaxy of Heroes, and I’ve focused my efforts on the aspects of our development and processes that needed the most work. Coming from an MMO background, I find myself often making comparisons between MMOs and mobile games. You’re always on the clock. Everything you…

THE GREY JEDI : A STAR WARS STORY (Fan Film)

You guys know how I feel about fan films. I’ve said many times before that some of these fan films are just as good (or better in some ways) than a lot of the professional films out there. This is one that I can say with confidence is on that list. This is an absolutely amazing fan film! My only complaint is that it’s so short. I wanted to see more. I truly hope that this crew continues making more films because I’ll be first in line to get to see them. If you want to check out The Grey Jedi yourself, it’s shorter than 10 minutes so it won’t take up a lot of your day. It’s something you can do on a quick break even. So give it a watch! You’ll be so glad you did. See the short film here: Prologue : As the War of…

X-Wing Alliance Mod Project from Alaska Works

I just had to make a post today to show you this really cool project we came across. It’s not exactly new, but it’s not getting the attention it really deserves, so you may not have heard about it. This is a very impressive shader mod project with demo videos for what was one of the best Star Wars games ever made. X-Wing Alliance! The last and arguably ultimate Star Wars space combat simulator. Although it was released in 1999, several mods are available that freshen up the appearance while retaining the surprisingly deep gameplay. If you haven’t seen it yet, but you loved X-Wing Alliance, I highly recommend you head over and check it out. It’s really awesome and it will bring a big nostalgic feel as well. They have loads of information on their website here, including instructions for using the mod, but there are also some videos…

Cancelled Star Wars Battlefront IV Concept Art

Are you wondering about the game that might have been? Every time a Star Wars game is canceled, we find ourselves curious about what it would have looked like. Sometimes, we get lucky enough to see this for ourselves. As is the case with the canceled Star Wars Battlefront 4 – which was already in the planning stages when they shut down Free Radical’s Battlefront 3 project. And it’s really too bad this game would never come to be because the concept images show a very interesting approach to the project. This is likely something a lot of fans would have really enjoyed. It’s too bad we never got the chance to find out. This gallery of concept images reveals a strikingly different approach – a ‘what if?’ scenario where the events of the Star Wars prequels would play out differently. Anakin would have killed Yoda and murdered Padmé, which…

The final trailer for Avengers: Infinity War is here

Marvel Studios has released a new trailer for “Avengers: Infinity War.” Check it out above! This trailer is not quite as downbeat as the previous one, though it certainly does include several shots of our heroes in major peril, like Thanos (Josh Brolin) squeezing Thor’ (Chris Hemsworth) head and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) being tortured by an unknown subvillain. Not to mention, of course, the big shot in which Captain America (Chris Evans) goes one-on-one against Thanos. Still, while the previous trailer was entirely serious and epic and terrifying, this final “Infinity War” trailer manages to slip in some jokes, as well as our heroes seemingly actually hatching a plan to deal with Thanos using the Infinity Stones as bait. Exciting! We can’t wait to see the Guardians of the Galaxy help defend Earth with the Avengers. “Avengers: Infinity War” is due out in theaters April 27
