Let’s face it: no matter how much of a fan of Star Wars: The Old Republic you are, there will be times in your life when you’re not playing it. And when that’s the case, what should you be doing with your time?
That’s where this post comes in handy. We look at some of the things you can do when you’re not actively enjoying the game. Yes, it might seem strange (the suggestion that there could be something else to do out there), but it’s also worth exploring.
Go To A Star Wars Set
One thing you could do is go to a Star Wars set (or at least somewhere that looks a bit like it could be a set). For example, a lot of fans make their way out to red-rock canyons in the southwest and hang out like they’re on Tatooine. Don’t worry: the temperature is high enough in this part of the world that you’ll almost feel like you’re on an alien planet.
Learn Mando’a On Language Apps
You could also go to the trouble of learning Mando’a on language apps. If you know how to conjugate verbs in this fictional lexicon, you’ll be miles ahead of the vast majority of Star Wars fans, and you’ll have something to talk about the next time you go to a conference.
Interestingly, some apps do actually offer tools to learn this fictional warrior language. It feels a bit like learning some of the languages J.R.R. Tolkien created for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit books.
Host A Star Wars Movie Marathon
Failing that, you could host a Star Wars movie marathon. Sure, you’ve probably seen all the films countless times, but it is still worth revisiting them.
Alternatively, you could watch some of the spin-offs with your buddies. These are generally less watched and could genuinely introduce them to a new aspect of the Star Wars lore. Just make sure you provide all the proper snacks to get the punters excited, like blue milk with cookies in the shape of Wookies.
Start Collecting Vintage Figures On eBay
You might have the perfect gaming setup for SWTOR, but what about the other items in your physical environment. Are they set up the way you want?
This is the stage where many SWTOR fans go on eBay and start looking for vintage figurines, like the Kenner figures. If you can find rare Boba Fett examples, your friends will never look upon you the same way again. You’ll be a legend in your own friendship circle.
Dress Up As Your Main Character
You could also look into the practicalities of actually dressing up as your main character in SWTOR. Finding costumes and putting them into action makes you someone people want to talk to at every Comic-Con.
These days, you don’t have to go to a store either to make a costume. Often, you can literally 3D-print the items you need, from your helmet to your blasters.
Plus, if you can make your costume yourself, it totally transforms how you view it. It’s not just something you bought, but a unique outfit that you made, based on all the in-game pieces you managed to collect over time.
Play Star Wars On Tabletop
Did you know that you can actually play Star Wars with your friends as a tabletop game? Well, it’s true. All you need is the Empire dice system and you’re ready to go. You and your friends can imagine that you’re aliens in the cantina, placing bets with each other over bowls of warm soup.
Plus, if someone breaks the rules or isn’t honest, you can force choke them. That’s always fun!
Start Theory Crafting On Reddit
If you’re more of an intellectual, you might also want to look into theorycrafting with your buddies on Reddit. In these discussions, you’re trying to work out how to make your characters more powerful and which mods they need to enable them to boost their tanking proficiency or DPS.
Theorycrafting is a lot of fun and there’s a surprisingly high level of demand for it. A lot of players want to know what they can do to optimize their characters. It’s all part of the game, and an essential element for those competing at the highest levels or in the biggest raids.
Improve Your Strategic Thinking Skills
Behind the scenes, you also want to be improving your strategic thinking skills. The more you can boost these with games like solitaire and chess, the more likely you are to thrive in SWTOR battle situations.
Don’t make life easy for yourself. Pick significant challenges and then face them head-on. Keep going until you achieve what you want to achieve and have made sufficient progress.
Build An Actual Lightsaber
Another thing you might want to do is build an actual lightsaber. Yes, that’s right – it’s something that you can do now.
There are actually several companies that let you do this. Disney is the official provider, of course, but there are now many others in places like Germany and Japan. These build objects that literally have a shard of light coming out of them, and look similar to the originals in the 1970s films. However, they’re not just special effects. They’re real! The only difference is that the light coming out of them is harmless. It won’t help you cut the crust off your sandwiches, unfortunately.
Binge The Mandalorian
Finally, you might want to binge The Mandalorian if you’re unable to play SWTOR. This series actually shares a lot of the same spirit and vibe of the game, focusing as it does so much on bounty hunters and the non-force characters in the Star Wars universe.
You can find all three seasons of The Mandalorian on Disney+ and watch them back to back. That’s dozens of hours of entertainment to enjoy. Plus, you can now order little cuddly versions of cute Grogu, the Mandalorian’s companion, if you want to. That’s cute.
