When The Book of Boba Fett premiered on Disney+ in 2021, it looked like Lucasfilm was building a long-term story around one of the most iconic bounty hunters in the Star Wars galaxy. According to star Temuera Morrison, that was exactly what he expected as well.
In a recent interview, the actor revealed that while filming the series he assumed the story would continue for multiple seasons — possibly as many as four.
Morrison Expected a Long Run for the Series
Speaking about his experience working on the show with co-star Ming-Na Wen, Morrison admitted that he thought the series was just getting started.
“When you do a series like Boba Fett and work with Ming-Na [Wen], I started to think, ‘Man, this is it. I’m away. Season 2, 3, 4.’”
Instead, The Book of Boba Fett ended after a single seven-episode season, leaving many fans wondering whether the story of the former bounty hunter turned crime boss would continue.
The show originally premiered on Disney+ on December 29, 2021, and ran through February 2022, following Boba Fett and Fennec Shand as they attempted to take control of Jabba the Hutt’s old territory on Tatooine.
Boba Fett Is “On the Shelf” — For Now
Morrison also shared a candid update about the character’s current status within Lucasfilm’s plans.
During the interview, he explained that the studio essentially told him that Boba Fett is currently “on the shelf.”
Despite that, the actor remains hopeful that the character could return in the future. Morrison joked that if Boba Fett does come back, he’ll be ready.
“[I’m] shelved… like a jar of peaches. When it does get opened, I’m going to come out sweeter.”
A Long History With Star Wars
Morrison’s connection to Star Wars goes far beyond the Disney+ series. He first appeared in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones as Jango Fett, the template for the Republic’s clone army.
Because of that role, Morrison’s likeness and voice have been tied to numerous characters across the franchise — including Boba Fett, Clone Troopers, and even Captain Rex in later appearances.
This deep connection to the franchise is one reason many fans continue to hope Lucasfilm will revisit the character in the future.
Could Boba Fett Return?
While there are currently no confirmed plans for another season of The Book of Boba Fett, the broader “Mandoverse” storyline continues to evolve. Characters and plot threads from The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett are expected to converge in upcoming projects, including the film The Mandalorian & Grogu.
That leaves the door open — even if just slightly — for Boba Fett to reappear somewhere down the line.
For now, however, Morrison says he’s simply waiting for the call.
And if it does come, it sounds like he’ll be more than ready to strap the armor back on.
