The National Atomic Testing Museum and the Desert Research Institute (DRI) are co-hosting a joint event in which the world of Star Wars will serve as a gateway to real-world science. The “May the Science Be with You” program is built around STEAM—science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The event is designed for families and welcomes visitors of all ages.
Time, location, and three hours of free admission
The event will take place on Friday, May 1, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Atomic Museum, 755 East Flamingo Road, Las Vegas. Throughout all three hours, admission to the museum exhibits will be free for all guests during the event.
What visitors can expect—from lab tours to live music
The organizers have put together a packed program with something for everyone:
- Interactive science demos and hands-on activities.
- Behind-the-scenes tours of DRI labs led by real scientists.
- A live performance by Peaceful Retreat.
- Padawan training–style activities.
- Photo ops and meet-and-greets with members of Star Wars fan and charity groups.
- Booths from local community partners.
- A food-truck area featuring local vendors.
Who it’s for and how to attend
The event is open to guests of all ages. No advance registration is required—just show up. Costumes of Star Wars characters and any other themes are welcome and will help set the mood.
Building on a proven format
Matt Malinowski, Director of Exhibits and Engagement at the National Atomic Testing Museum, noted that the project builds on last year’s successful experience. “Building on the success of the previous event, ‘May the Science Be with You’ continues to spark curiosity and enthusiasm for STEAM among people of all ages, in a way that’s engaging and memorable,” he said.
The city is working to attract tourists with a wide range of interests
For Las Vegas, this is an additional opportunity to attract tourists. In the era of iGaming, the city can no longer rely solely on gambling entertainment. Indeed, online casinos offer players the opportunity to play slots, roulette, and even card games from a computer or even a mobile phone. This can be done from anywhere in the world—whether in the U.S. or New Zealand. At the same time, players can also count on bonus offers, which we reviewed while preparing the article. On the website no-deposit-bonuses.co.nz, which appeared among the top search results, we found confirmation that bonuses are offered by most major gaming platforms holding international licenses.
Obviously, it is hard to compete with such advantages. Therefore, to attract tourists from New Zealand and other countries around the world, Las Vegas uses event tourism.
Discovering science as a career—together as a family
Detra Paige, DRI’s Communications Manager, emphasized the program’s dual purpose. “‘May the Science Be with You’ gives families a unique opportunity to take part in STEAM activities, talk with scientists, and visit DRI’s research labs. At the same time, both children and adults will be able to see firsthand how exciting a career in science can be,” Paige said. She also added that DRI is pleased to partner with the National Atomic Testing Museum and to have the opportunity to offer families a free and truly educational event.
