Tom Kane, Legendary Star Wars Voice Actor, Has Passed Away at 64

Tom Kane, one of the most recognizable voices in modern Star Wars animation and games, has sadly passed away at the age of 64.

Kane died on May 18, 2026, in Kansas City due to complications related to the stroke he suffered in 2020, according to reports from Entertainment Weekly and People. He was surrounded by family.

For Star Wars fans, Kane’s voice was everywhere — sometimes so naturally woven into the galaxy that it was easy to forget just how much of it he helped carry.

A Voice That Lived Across the Galaxy

Kane voiced Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and several other projects, bringing warmth, wisdom, and just enough ancient mischief to one of the franchise’s most iconic characters.

But Yoda was only part of his Star Wars legacy.

Across games, animation, and other media, Kane also voiced characters including Admiral Ackbar, Qui-Gon Jinn, Admiral Yularen, and additional roles that helped make the wider Star Wars universe feel consistent, familiar, and alive.

For many players, his voice is tied directly to Star Wars gaming. Kane appeared in titles such as Star Wars Battlefront, Star Wars Battlefront II, Disney Infinity 3.0, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. His final credited role was in The Skywalker Saga, where he voiced Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Admiral Ackbar.

That is a remarkable final Star Wars note: three voices, three eras, one performer quietly holding the galaxy together.

More Than Star Wars

Outside the galaxy far, far away, Kane had an enormous career. He voiced Professor Utonium and HIM in The Powerpuff Girls, worked across shows including Kim Possible, The Wild Thornberrys, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and Archer, and contributed to major video game franchises including Call of Duty and Batman: Arkham.

He was also known to millions of Disney park visitors as the voice of the Walt Disney World Monorail system — one of those roles that becomes part of people’s memories without them always knowing the name behind it.

His Voice Went Silent Too Soon

Kane suffered a stroke in 2020 that severely affected his ability to speak, read, and write. He officially retired from voice acting in 2021.

That made his later years especially poignant. Here was a performer whose gift had shaped so many childhoods, games, shows, and Star Wars memories — and who then lost the very tool that made him beloved.

But the work remains.

Every time Yoda speaks in The Clone Wars.
Every time Ackbar calls out in a game.
Every time players revisit Battlefront or The Skywalker Saga.
Every time someone hears that familiar warmth, authority, or comic timing and smiles before checking the credits.

That is the kind of legacy voice actors leave: invisible until you realize they were everywhere.

A Star Wars Gaming Legacy Worth Remembering

For a site focused on the long history of Star Wars games, Kane’s contribution deserves special recognition. Voice actors like him helped make the games feel connected to the larger saga, whether players were commanding heroes in Battlefront, smashing bricks in LEGO Star Wars, or hearing familiar characters brought back to life through new performances.

You can follow that broader history through our Complete List of All Star Wars Games Ever Made, but Kane’s name belongs in a special corner of it.

He was not just “a voice in Star Wars.”

He was many voices.

And for a generation of fans, those voices were part of home.

May the Force be with him.
