My pal Jason Thibeault has a great hands-on SWTOR preview to share and with the pre-launch only a few days away, it’s a great way to pass the time and get yourself in the SWTOR mood. This is also an excellent preview for anyone who missed game testing or is just now hearing about the game (have you been under a rock?).
We have brought you a lot of SWTOR previews and reviews here and I guarantee you I have read tons and tons of them but there are some things in particular that I really like about Jason’s review. For example, he has a lot of screenshots.
These aren’t just typical gameplay shots- he has some great shots of the character selection process and appearance customization which is great for those who did not have a chance to see this in the game for themselves. He also explains the process with his text as you scroll through the screenshots.
Then he has a good review of NPC interaction, again with great screenshots of the process. “One of the cool NPC interaction features is through a portable holographic communicator.” Says Jason and I totally agree. I thought that was really neat when I saw it in the game as well.
He then goes on to cover combat, quests, training and skills, travel, equipment, and his overall assessment based on his experience of the game. One thing that I like so much about Jason’s preview is that he makes it so easy to read. It’s well laid out, covers all the major points you want to know from a game and puts it in a friendly format. Even those who know little about SWTOR will benefit from reading this one.
Read more over on Jason’s blog.
He concludes:

I give this game 4.5 out of 5 stars. I would give it 5 but it was a beta and I didn’t have time to fully explore all the features and game play. All in all it’s a fantastic, rich, exciting environment for an MMORPG with an intuitive interface that harkens to other MMOs with some added game play twists (NPC interaction). This is one of those games (like WoW) that users will be playing for decades.
