We have written here before about the thoughts and impressions of veteran MMO gamers when it comes to SWTOR. In fact, we’re long time MMO players ourselves and we love to hear what others have to say as well. We stumbled across this Reddit post, a la SWTOR review, from a self-professed old school MMO player. What did he have to say about SWTOR? The poster starts with their background in MMO gaming: “My first MMO was Everquest and this was after it had been out for a while” And then some info on other games he’s tried/player: “Since then I have played DDO, STO, and Champions, as well I have tried the trial versions of most other MMO’s out there currently and while some offer a unique experience none have matched the polish and ease of teaching you how to play the game like WOW, until now.” Ok, so…

SWTOR Beta: First Impressions from MMO Crunch
SWTOR beta first impressions are coming in and so far, most players have positive things to say about the game. With so many people who have now gotten to try it out after this past weekend, we’re going to keep seeing those SWTOR reviews, previews and impressions. Here’s what MMO Crunch had to say about first impressions of the game. Players were impressed with how smoothly it ran with no lags or crashes and with the wonderful graphics. SWTOR offers several options for customizing the characters, which is a big plus. Some of the options for characters include different hairstyles, faces, makeup and skin color. Some races even have ridges in the faces, jewelry, horns, scars and tattoos leaving a lot of room for the imagination. Players did notice that some races have more options than others do but this wasn’t a really big deal. One of the main complaints…
SWTOR Impressions from IGN: Setting a Scene
IGN had another great SWTOR update for us today. It was all about “setting a scene” and “finding depth in the Star Wars universe”. So far, their impressions of the SWTOR game and story have been some of the most intricate we’ve found on any of the media sites since the embargo was lifted. While you might not always agree with the gamers/reviewers over at IGN, you still have to respect the way they present the facts- and in a way that gamers can understand and appreciate. Their impressions hold weight, even when you disagree with their opinions and that’s why we’re happy to bring you the most recent update from them. The Old Republic: Setting a Scene- Nick Kolan begins with some basic info on Star Wars The Old Republic and the scene that BioWare is trying to set within the game. “. It’s a place where entire planets…
SWTOR Impressions from a Veteran MMORPG Player
I’ve mentioned before that I have played a lot of MMORPGs. We’re talking years of games- free to play, subscription based, betas and more. I’ve tried every MMORPG I can get my hands on and surprisingly, really enjoyed some of the oddball ones that my friends had never heard of. Since we’re coming up on SWTOR release soon, I thought it was a good time for a write-up on SWTOR compared to other MMORPGs. A lot of my friends and guidlies keep asking me what I think so here we go. The sci-fi genre of MMORPGs takes up a very small piece of the pie compared to your typical medieval genre. This fact alone sets SWTOR apart from the sea of other games out there today. So what other aspects set it apart and in what ways is it similar to other MMORPGs? TOR is not so far different from…

SWTOR Impressions and Previews Roundup
The press embargo was up today which means that many members of the media who had been previously invited into SWTOR game testing were now allowed to write about, blog about and talk about their impressions. This means lots of Star Wars The Old Republic previews and impressions for us to enjoy from some of the biggest names in video game/ MMORPG media. When the news first came out, many game testers were confused about what this means and who was allowed to talk about the game. If you’re a game tester, you are still bound by the NDA. The press embargo only applies to a select group of media who already know who they are. To clarify the confusion on press and the embargoes, Stephen Reid tweeted, “Simple rule on press embargoes: unless you’ve been told you’re under embargo, you’re a tester. Ergo, no, you can’t talk about…
SWTOR Impressions- A Double Dose of TOR Preview
Now that the press embargo is lifted, we’re finding out some great news about Star Wars The Old Republic. It’s always good to hear and see the impressions of other players, especially if you have not had the chance to try the game for yourself. Two members of the Massively staff, Larry Everett and Jef Reahard have been given the opportunity to play the play the game for the last few weeks and now they get to share their impressions with us officially. As we sit two months before the launch of the game, they are able to share with us their thoughts, ideas and impressions in an unofficial SWTOR preview that everyone can enjoy and appreciate, whether you’ve had a chance to check it out for yourself yet or not. Some background from Massively on the two game testers: “Larry is our SWTOR columnist; he’s been following the game…
IGN SWTOR Preview: Companions and Crafting
Example of Dark-Side Armor – (Trooper Commando) Now that the press embargo is up, we’re going to see some great new info and Star Wars The Old Republic previews. IGN has hit the ground running with their Companions and Crafting preview that is part of their The Old Republic Blowout section. All this week they will be sharing more information on SWTOR. As they tell us in their first post on TOR, “it’s nice to have talented friends”. Crafting is an interesting process, according to IGN and since it’s also an integral part of most MMORPGs, fans are anxious to know what it’s all about. IGN is a big name in gaming so it’s no surprise that BioWare invited them in for testing. Since we’re a fan site, we’re still bound by the NDA so all we can do at this point is bring you the latest and greatest in…
Impressions of SWTOR from a WoW Vet: Part 2
Yesterday I brought you a write-up from a Reddit user on his impressions of game testing SWTOR. It seems the post was popular enough that he decided to write up a part 2. Since his initial impression of the game were mostly positive (for which he received some criticism), he has added some downfalls of SWTOR to his Part 2. A snippet: Some troll-being yesterday said that Voidstar was quote “an abomination” which is far from an accurate portrayal of the state of that particular warzone. Voidstar is kind of like Strand of the Ancients in WoW. You’ve got to either blast your way through a series of gates or you have to defend against people blasting their way through said series of gates. Just like Strand there’s a time limit on the game and if the attacker wins, when teams switch sides, the former defenders have their time determined…
