Ten years. A decade of battles, guilds, lightsabers, and strategy at the holotable. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (SWGOH) has officially hit its 10th anniversary — and Capital Games is celebrating with the biggest update in the game’s history. The update marks the beginning of what the developers are calling a “New Era” for the game, bringing sweeping structural changes, a revamped progression system, and brand-new content designed to unite veterans and newcomers under one galaxy-spanning system.
Let’s break down everything you need to know about this landmark update and how it’s set to reshape SWGOH for years to come.
The Era System: A New Way to Play
The centerpiece of the 10th Anniversary update is the introduction of Eras, a new seasonal structure designed to organize content, progression, and storytelling. Each Era will consist of:
- Three Episodes per Era
- Six new Marquee units
- A unique Journey Guide event
- Weekly Episode Quests
- Era Challenges
- Multiple limited-time activities for all players
Eras will be isolated from the rest of the game — referred to as Legacy content — and come with unique “Era units” that can only be used within Era modes. Once an Era ends, those units become Legacy units and transition into the regular game.
The reasoning behind this isolation is simple: to let players participate in fresh content without sacrificing progress in their long-term rosters. This means you’ll be able to focus on new units and stories without worrying about draining your existing resources.
Era Levels: A Brand-New Progression System
Replacing traditional gear and relic materials for Era content, Era Levels form a new linear progression path for powering up characters. Instead of juggling dozens of upgrade materials, players will use Era-specific resources to level their units.
Key benchmarks include:
- Level 65: Gear 12 equivalent (free-to-play friendly target)
- Level 80: Relic 2
- Level 95 (Max): Relic 6 and Zeta ability level
When an Era ends, these units’ progress converts into their Legacy equivalents — meaning your time and effort will always count toward permanent roster growth.
The Coliseum: A New Era of Competition
Say goodbye to endless Galactic Challenges. The Coliseum is the game’s new signature mode, unlocking at Player Level 10. It’s a daily boss-battle arena where players test their Era squads against iconic Star Wars enemies for leaderboard rewards and progression materials — including the all-new Relic 10 resources.
Each Era will feature its own Coliseum Shard — separate from Squad and Fleet Arenas — ensuring everyone gets a fresh start each season. Daily bosses rotate, rewarding both consistency and skill.
Era Challenges Replace Galactic Challenges
To keep daily playtime manageable, the developers are replacing Galactic Challenges with Era Challenges. These events are tailored to Era units and balanced to be achievable for players of all levels. Each runs for a full week, letting players complete them on their own schedule and earn materials for Era progression.
Time Management & Quality of Life
Capital Games made it clear: the new system shouldn’t eat more of your day. The reworked structure aims to reduce grind and repetition while maintaining engagement. Coliseum scores persist over each Era, meaning once you hit your best performance, you can move on.
Meanwhile, other modes like Conquest and Territory Battles are being rebalanced to require less micromanagement thanks to a new Relic Delta system, which scales difficulty more efficiently.
Cantina Overhaul & Seasonal Campaigns
The iconic Cantina is also being revamped. Light Side and Dark Side tables are merging into a single Campaigns Table, where new story-driven content will appear more prominently. Expect regular updates connecting in-game events to broader Star Wars stories — a much-needed modernization of one of SWGOH’s oldest features.
Future Content: Loaned Units & PvP Plans
Next year will introduce Loaned Units — temporary characters based on existing Legacy units that players can use in Era modes. These borrowed characters allow newer players to enjoy complete squad experiences without grinding for years.
Capital Games is also developing an Era-based PvP mode, designed to bring fair, balanced competition without mod RNG. It’s early in development, but the vision is clear: fast, strategic PvP built around equal footing each season.
Relic 10 & Economy Updates
A huge highlight of this update is the Relic Economy rework. Capital Games wants to reduce the infamous “gear crunch” and make higher-level upgrades more accessible.
Here’s how:
- Gear requirements are reduced for Relic upgrades.
- More Relic materials are available from Episode Tracks and Era milestones.
- Scavenger recipes have been simplified, allowing for cheaper Aeromagnifiers, Droid Brains, and Signal Data.
- Relic 9 materials are easier to earn, while Relic 10 arrives as an exclusive reward for top players in Era modes and high-end PvP.
This change aims to make progression feel rewarding again — not punishing.
Lightspeed Tokens & Episode Track Improvements
Lightspeed Tokens (LSTs) — which instantly upgrade characters — are also getting a facelift. Updated tiers now grant characters higher Relics and ability levels, making them far more valuable.
The Episode Track, Pass, and Pass+ now include even more Era Materials and Relic components while keeping prices the same, meaning both free and premium players benefit from the expanded rewards.
10th Anniversary Marquee Characters
To celebrate the milestone, the Anniversary Era introduces reimagined versions of early game favorites:
- Stormtrooper Luke – Revives the classic Rebel squad.
- IG-90 – A new tank supporting Doctor Aphra’s crew.
- Yoda & Chewie – A powerhouse duo joining Tarfful’s Wookiee team.
- Asajj Ventress (Dark Disciple) – Adds versatility to bounty hunter and scion squads.
- Inquisitor Barriss – A dark twist on the fallen Jedi healer.
- Darth Vader (Duel’s End) – The ultimate Empire squad anchor.
The Era Journey Event introduces Maul (Hate-Fueled) as the marquee unlockable, alongside powerful new bosses such as Dryax, Jotaz, Pirate AT-ST, and Zeffo Tomb Guardians.
Anniversary Quest Celebration
From November 2025 through 2026, players can participate in Anniversary Quest chains awarding Lightspeed Tokens and exclusive characters. These quests are designed to help both new and veteran players fast-track key Journey Guide heroes — from Hera Syndulla and Ahsoka to Commander Luke Skywalker and The Mandalorian (Beskar Armor).
The Four Pillars of the New Era
The developers defined four key principles shaping the next decade of SWGOH:
- Seasonal Play is for Everyone – All players, new and old, experience fresh content together.
- Focus on the Fun – Rapid progression, creative gameplay, and fewer bottlenecks.
- Tell a Star Wars Story – Deep, narrative-driven updates grounded in the Star Wars universe.
- Eras Are the Most Efficient Path Forward – Meaningful rewards that fuel both short-term excitement and long-term roster growth.
The Future of Galaxy of Heroes
After a decade of lightsaber duels and strategic victories, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes is entering its most ambitious phase yet. With a rebuilt structure, streamlined progression, and story-rich events, the “New Era” promises to keep the holotable alive for another 10 years.
Capital Games has made it clear: this update isn’t just an anniversary celebration — it’s a relaunch. A new foundation for the next generation of Star Wars gaming on mobile.
May the holotable be with you.
