A new report suggests that the planned Dave Filoni–helmed crossover project set in the so-called MandoVerse may no longer be moving forward as a theatrical film.
According to industry scooper DanielRPK, the project is being reworked into a limited series for Disney+ instead of a feature movie.
At this stage, the information should be treated as unconfirmed, as Lucasfilm and Disney have not issued any official statement.
What Was the MandoVerse Crossover?
The project, first announced during Lucasfilm’s broader film slate reveal, was intended to bring together story threads from:
- The Mandalorian
- Ahsoka
- The Book of Boba Fett
- Other New Republic–era shows
Filoni was set to direct the crossover event, which was positioned as a culmination of the interconnected storytelling built across these Disney+ series.
Why a Shift to Series Could Make Sense
If the report is accurate, moving the project from film to limited series wouldn’t be unprecedented in the modern franchise landscape.
The MandoVerse storyline is already structured like long-form television, with:
- Multiple character arcs across different shows
- Ongoing political and galactic threads
- A tone closer to serialized storytelling than standalone film structure
A limited series format could offer more time to resolve:
- Thrawn-related plotlines
- Mandalorian politics
- The New Republic’s stability
- Cross-character reunions
In other words, the format might better fit the story’s scale.
What This Means for the Film Slate
Lucasfilm’s theatrical roadmap has already undergone several adjustments in recent years, with some projects evolving, shifting timelines, or changing formats during development.
A move like this would not necessarily signal cancellation — but rather a structural pivot in how the story is delivered.
It could also reflect Disney’s continued emphasis on high-profile streaming event series alongside theatrical releases.
Important: Still a Report, Not Confirmation
As of now:
- No official cancellation of the film has been announced
- No series order has been confirmed
- Lucasfilm has not commented publicly
Until there is an official update, this remains industry rumor, albeit from a source that frequently reports on in-development projects.
The Story May Continue — Just Differently
If true, the change could signal that Lucasfilm views the MandoVerse story as something better suited to long-form storytelling rather than a two-hour theatrical event.
Either way, the central pieces — Filoni’s involvement and the New Republic–era crossover concept — appear to remain intact in some form.
We’ll update as soon as anything is officially confirmed.
