A Quote Star Wars Fans Will Immediately Understand
It is a small quote, but it says a lot.
Hux was introduced in The Force Awakens as a major First Order figure, with clear tension opposite Kylo Ren and enough presence to feel like a long-term villain. But by the time The Rise of Skywalker arrived, the character’s arc had narrowed sharply.
Why Hux Still Gets Talked About
Part of the reason fans still bring up Hux is simple: the setup was stronger than the payoff.
Back in 2020, Domhnall Gleeson said he wished General Hux had “stuck around a little bit longer” and that it would have been nice to see the spy storyline play out more. That old comment already reflected what many viewers felt after The Rise of Skywalker.
A Small Abrams Comment With Big Sequel Trilogy Energy
Abrams did not launch into a full sequel-trilogy postmortem here. He just gave fans one very revealing line.
And honestly, that was enough. For a lot of Star Wars fans, General Hux still feels like a character who should have mattered more. Abrams saying he wanted Gleeson to have a bigger role only adds fuel to that argument. This is partly an inference from Abrams’ remark and the earlier comments from Gleeson, but it fits the long-running fan reaction around the character.
The Hux Debate Is Not Going Away
In a sequel trilogy full of “what if” conversations, General Hux remains near the top of the list.
He had the introduction, the look, the rivalry, and the actor to become something bigger. Abrams’ latest comment will not rewrite the trilogy, but it does confirm that even the people involved seem to recognize there was more potential there.
