New Details On Amy Hennig’s Canceled Star Wars Game

Unfortunately, I’ve had to do a lot of posts about canceled Star Wars games. And that’s because they keep getting trashed; many of them before they even have a proper chance to get started and some of them canceled right when they are close to release. It’s a tragedy, really, and today we’re going to talk about about one such game. It went by the code name Ragtag, and if you’ve been around a while, you’ll remember that I’ve written about it before. In this clip from MinnMax’s full interview about leaving EA and creating Airborne Kingdom, The Wandering Band’s Zach Mumbach and Ben Wander talk about Amy Hennig’s Star Wars project codenamed Ragtag at Visceral Games and why the game was ultimately canceled. See here: Here’s an interesting snippet: “We were making an amazingly-well crafted” 12-hour experience, but EA started throwing their weight around, and I’m thinking, this is effing…

Why is Star Wars: Squadrons $40?

Could it be because it doesn’t have the “breadth” of bigger EA games? And what does that even mean? Back in June, EA explained that their starfighter sim Star Wars: Squadrons would have zero microtransactions, which was surprising, since the game is supposed to have a lot of different cosmetics for pilots. Also surprising? The $40 price tag, which is significantly lower than other Star Wars games they’re putting out like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or even other non-Star Wars games like the new FIFA or Madden games, all of which sell for around $60. EA said it’s very specifically focused on the ‘fantasy’ of dogfighting in X-Wings and TIE Fighters, so it’s a bit cheaper than usual.  Electronic Arts chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen explained in the quarter financial call that Squadrons will be more focused than other EA games. “Games all have different scales, and most of…

So sad. 🙁 In this video The Act Man takes a look at one such game. See it here: I gotta say, I agree! This game is awesome. And for being released in 2005, it was way ahead of its time. Unfortunately, the sequel was cancelled before the game was even released. This video goes into the background on that and explains what happened and why the planned sequel was cancelled. The reasoning is kind of up there with the same reasons why some of our other Star Wars games have been cancelled. Maybe we can get a sequel one day, as all fans of this game can agree that it deserves one….

The Future of Star Wars Games Not from the Latest Movies

The Star Wars sequel trilogy was long awaited and massively-hyped, but did it live up to expectations? For some, yes. For others, no. In fact, Rise of the Skywalker triggered quite the controversy in the Star Wars community. Personally, I enjoyed the new movies for what they were, but we have to agree with facts that the Sequels were kind of a mess compared to the earlier films, and that Disney didn’t really seem to have a long term plan in place when they started making them. Add to that the complete chaos behind the scenes as directors were swapped out and plot-lines and characters were dropped or changed, and it’s easy to see how it became such a mess. Since then, they just don’t carry the same excitement the earlier films did. There isn’t as much of an emotional response as we expect from a Star Wars film (let…

The Facts About “Star Wars: Squadrons”

For many years, new “Star Wars” content was few and far between. When video games were released, we were expected to be content to play them for years on end. The idea of a new movie was laughable, and after the misery of the prequel trilogy, there weren’t all that many people who were receptive to the idea of seeing one anyway. A live-action television series like “The Mandalorian” would have been unthinkable. We all know what’s changed since then. Disney came in, and since then, “Star Wars” has been everywhere. There are new films, new toys, new games, and of course, “The Mandalorian” is one of the best TV shows of any genre that we’ve seen in years.  While “The Mandalorian” appears to have pleased everybody, and the most recent three movies split the crowd, our relationship with the newer “Star Wars” video games is a little more complicated….

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Actor Opens Up About Shelved Third Entry

Sam Witwer had some things to say about the canceled plans for The Force Unleashed III. During a Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back watch with IGN, Witwer shared some thoughts about both The Force Unleashed II and III. As many of you will recall, the ending of II left us with a mighty cliffhanger. Starkiller handed Darth Vader over to the Rebels and III had meant to pick up where II left off. Only, that never happened. Witwer says: I’m not comfortable sharing everything we discussed, but the idea was, that was the biggest mistake ever, and that Vader, like he was toying with Luke, the Force Unleashed I and II games were all about Vader toying with Starkiller. And at some point, there would be a confrontation where Starkiller’s fighting Vader, and everything that worked before suddenly isn’t working now. He’s like, ‘I cut off your hand!,’ and Vader says, ‘That…

Clone Wars Composer Speaks Out on Canceled Project Ragtag

EA’s canceled Star Wars game, known as “Project Ragtag” around the industry, seemed to be the setup for the perfect game. It was to be a single-player adventure set in the Star Wars universe, led by Amy Hennig, the mastermind behind Uncharted and the Jak and Daxter franchises. So what went wrong? Well, that’s a very good question. The game went into development in 2013 but was canceled in 2017 and the studio developing it was shuttered. They cited a dwindling interest in single-player games, but that sure doesn’t see to be the case for Jedi: Fallen Order. We may never know exactly what happened, but as the years pass, we have seen some of the people involved in that project come forward and share some info about their role on it. That’s exactly what happened with Kevin Kiner’s interview with Inverse. Here’s a snippet of that: Kiner says he…
