5 Fun Board Game Apps to Kill Time When You’re Not Playing Star Wars

Not too long ago, we went through a stage when it seemed as if board games were gone for good. The almighty console offered a vastly superior gaming experience, while there were plenty of great PC and mobile games as well. Ironically, technology became more capable and we’re now in an era where digital board games are all the rage. Perhaps people realized that digital alternatives to their favorite board games of the past have a multitude of benefits. They’re much cheaper, you don’t have to spend hours cleaning up and organizing all the pieces, and you can bring everything along with you in a single slab of glass in your pocket. You can also play against opponents around the world. With new technology like augmented reality allowing you to merge digital and physical elements to add new dimensions to your favorite games and keep things social, now is a…

Let’s dive in, but before that… AUGUST August kicks off with both the Separatist Dreadnought and Republic Venator becoming playable in Heroes vs Villains. Since the release of Capital Supremacy this addition has been highly requested, and we’re incredibly happy to be adding them to our rotation. We’ve taken areas within both capital ships and turned them into playable locations that we believe will be great for the small-scale Hero gameplay. After watching discussions around Capital Supremacy and, in particular, the Capital Ship phase. We’ve made some changes to the interiors of both Capital Ships. The assault on the Capital Ship will continue to have two sub-phases, but both are evolving. Once you’re breached the enemy ship, you have five minutes to…

Star Wars’ History with the Casino Culture

Most Star Wars fans are not strangers to the idea that there is a casino culture in the Star Wars Universe. No matter how much they try to Disney-fy it, there are some gritty elements to Star Wars and that was part of what made it so good. This doesn’t mean it can’t still be family friendly.   We saw gambling mentioned in the original Star Wars films in a variety of ways and it didn’t have any negative consequences for the genre of the fans of it, as far as anyone can tell. It’s been a part of Star Wars canon all along, even if Disney wants to try to blur it out.  This said, it’s not a surprise that there will be some crossover in people who like Star Wars and people who enjoy gambling and the casinos. There used to be some great fantasy-themed online slots based on…

Characters I’d Like to See Introduced or Brought Back in Onslaught

The SWtOR community has been buzzing recently about the new details regarding the “play what you want, how you want” gearing system that is Spoils of War. While I, too, have been caught up in the whirlpool of hype (and confusion), I am choosing to wait until we actually get to see this new stuff in-action on the PTS before I offer my thoughts on it here.Instead today I’m turning my attention to something I care about far more than gear, and that’s the in-game story characters. I’ve been thinking a great deal about who I’d like to see, either brought back or introduced for the first time, on Onderon and Mek-Sha and I just thought “hey, why not make a post about it?”Obviously, some characters are a given. Darths Krovos and Malgus, Empress Acina, General Daeruun, Jonas Balkar, Major Anri, Moff Pyron, NR-O2, Tau Idair, and Vowrawn are all definitely going…

Gambling and Betting in Star Wars

Gambling is not new to the Star Wars universe. There are several places where we see gambling and betting throughout the franchise. It’s something that we’ve written about here before, but it’s also something we likely won’t see as long as Disney holds the rights to new Star Wars content. While gambling may not be in the spirit of their “family friendly” ideal, it IS and always has been a part of Star Wars. The original movies were intended to be family-friendly, but we still see the casinos for short periods in them. My guess is that a) standards have changed a bit since the original movies came out and b) Disney’s idea of “family friendly” may be a bit more G-rated than others. At any rate, there is gambling and betting in Star Wars and we see the Gilded Descent Casino in the first novel, for example. It was…

What Star Wars Battlefront Needs for a Great eSports Scene

What Star Wars: Battlefront Needs for a Great eSports Scene

Ten years on from the superb Star Wars: Battlefront II from Pandemic Studios and LucasArts in 2005, and following many rumours about a third edition to the Battlefront series, EA DICE and Electronic Arts released the much-hyped Star Wars: Battlefront in 2015. With stunning graphics and the chance to play as iconic characters and classes from the epic film franchise, people were over the moon with the chance to finally play another triple-A Star Wars game. Lacking in depth, but coming with a rather grubby DLC line-up, fans had high hopes that the sequel, Star Wars: Battlefront II in 2017 would improve on the first of the reboot games. Sadly, mired in controversy of bad publishing practices, Battlefront II was an utter disappointment. EA DICE have tried to earn back community support with a stream of updates that continue to this day, but instead, much of the community has reverted…

Gambling: An Examination Into Gaming Addiction

Gambling is everywhere. Lottery tickets, casinos, poker tournaments, online gaming, and sports betting. As a society we are inundated with opportunity to take a chance, spin the wheel, roll the dice, and perhaps win big; or just as likely, lose big. With the growth of the gaming industry, the advent on online casinos (for example German online casinos – https://automatenherz.com/online-casino/ ♠️|♥️|♣️|♦️ ), and other online gaming sites, more and more people are introduced to gambling at a younger age. With the popularity of Celebrity Poker, Poker Stars tours and televised tournaments appearing on mainstream TV, gaming seems to be everywhere, and everyone seems to be doing it. Gambling is part of American culture. For most, it is simply an enjoyable pastime. Based on a…

Star Wars Games: Top 5 Honourable Mentions

Star Wars games are like a fine wine – they only age better with time. But to be fair, the saga had its ups and downs throughout almost three decades of existence on the gaming market. Back in the mid-1990s and ‘00s, there have been more than two dozen Star Wars universe-themed games released explicitly for PC, and frankly, not every release fulfilled the developer expectations. Just like the movies, some games are remembered much more fondly than others. There’s even this common saying about the whole deal – for every beloved Star Wars game, there’s half-dozen of the ‘ehh’ ones. But today is not about the dark side of the Star Wars games industry. Today’s all about those all-time classics, amongst which, there’s even a game that, by some fans, is considered as being better than the entire film saga! Is the force still strong with such a bold…

With short-ranged blasters, this trooper needs something more versatile for more distant foes. To extend his reach, the ARC trooper’s Power Blast ability overcharges his primary pistol to fire a…

There are big changes coming to the Clone Trooper legions with each Trooper Class now getting their own look, relevant to the legion that they are a part of. This also sees the first time that Officers will be able to equip Clone Trooper armour. Additionally, there’s been a lot of discussion around stuns and their effect on the flow of gameplay. With stuns now having a lower duration and a short immunity once you have been stunned, we’re looking forward to seeing how these changes improve the experience. ANAKIN SKYWALKER Anakin’s power and skill were virtually unmatched, though his overconfidence and anger could get the better of him. Star Wars: Battlefront 2: Progress Update on New Mode + Emote Wheel

The Star Wars: Battelfront 2 team over at DICE posted a new Community Transmission: To start things off, we wanted to talk a little about the upcoming, non-linear game mode since it’s been such a popular topic in the community. Development is progressing well, but we wanted to let you know that we’ve made the very tough decision to move the release of the new game mode into March. At the core of this choice is our desire to keep the quality of this mode high. It’s always disappointing when we have to move things around, not just for you but for ourselves as well. We’re incredibly eager to see the new game mode hit our live servers, but we also want to ensure that when it launches it’s the best state it can be. Troubling Times for EA Star Wars Games

Troubling Times for EA Star Wars Games

We’ve written quite a bit here about the rise and fall of so many Star Wars games. In recent years, this has always included talk of Electronic Arts. That’s because EA are the only ones who can make Star Wars games, at least for now. On May 6, 2013, Disney and Electronic Arts announced that the two companies had signed a ten-year deal to make Star Wars games. This would be a deal that many would later question, as it doesn’t seem to be working out for either party as well as they had hoped. It’s certainly not working out for the fans the way that we had hoped. Kotaku recently published a piece that talks about this exact problem – EA’s Troubled Decade of Star Wars Games. Here’s part of what they had to say: ““Back in 2013, Star Wars was in a rough place. The most recent movie had been 2005’s Revenge of…

Star Wars Episode IX – Release Date & More

December 2018 held a certain significance, I’m sure the same can be said for many people for many reasons, however, for fans of the Star Wars movie saga it became the first time in the past four years without a new Star Wars movie to enthuse about, see, and discuss. Initially scheduled for a May 24 release, the hotly anticipated Star Wars: Episode IX denotes the end of a trilogy; a new chapter which began with JJ Abrahams’ December 17, 2015 release of The Force Awakens, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Not part of the trilogy), with Episode 8 – The Last Jedi having relayed the second part of the adventure on December 14, 2017, and the trilogy will now come to a close with the bumped back, more traditional Christmas release window of Episode IX on December 20, 2019. The news gives Star Wars fans something…
