Hayden Christensen Says His Daughter Still Hasn’t Watched His Star Wars Movies

Hayden Christensen says his daughter still has not really watched his Star Wars movies, and the reason is honestly kind of perfect.

Speaking at GalaxyCon, Christensen said she knows he plays “a significant character,” but has still not properly seen the films. According to him, the issue seems to be pretty simple: she knows he becomes Darth Vader, she knows Darth Vader is a bad guy, and she does not want to watch her dad as the villain.

A Very Star Wars Parenting Problem

It is one of those stories that only really works in Star Wars.

For most actors, telling your kid you played an important movie character probably sounds pretty straightforward. For Hayden Christensen, it apparently comes with the added complication that the character eventually becomes one of the most famous villains in film history. That makes this less about franchise legacy and more about a kid understandably deciding she would rather not watch her dad turn into Darth Vader.

Not the First Time He’s Said She Hasn’t Seen Them

Christensen has talked before about holding off on showing his daughter the films. In earlier interviews, he said he had been dragging his feet a little and waiting for the right age, while People also reported in 2024 that his daughter still had not watched Star Wars and was more interested in other things.

So this new quote feels less like a shocking reveal and more like a funny update to a long-running Hayden Christensen parenting subplot.

The Darth Vader Problem

What makes the quote work is that it is weirdly sweet.

There is something very human about a child hearing “yes, my dad plays Anakin Skywalker” and getting stuck on the part where Anakin becomes Darth Vader. For Star Wars fans, it is a reminder that one of the saga’s biggest tragedies also looks very different when filtered through ordinary family logic. Great for cinema. Less ideal for dad movie night.
