Ryan Gosling with an alien creature in a Star Wars: Starfighter article header about his favorite creature scene

Ryan Gosling Says One Star Wars: Starfighter Scene Was “One of the Most Fun” He’s Ever Done

Star Wars: Starfighter is still keeping most of its secrets locked down, but Ryan Gosling just gave away a very telling little detail about the movie’s creature work.

Speaking in a recent interview, Gosling said he visited the creature shop early during production so he could see what was being built and figure out ways to interact with those creations in the film. According to him, he ended up spotting one “very special” creature that had originally been meant as a background character, asked if he could have a scene with it, and that moment turned into “one of the most fun scenes” he has ever done. He also said the team later gave him a model of the creature as his wrap gift, and that it is now sitting in his house.

A Small Quote That Says a Lot

That is not a plot reveal, but it is exactly the kind of production detail that makes Star Wars: Starfighter feel a little more alive.

It suggests the film is not just using creatures as background texture. Gosling’s story makes it sound like at least one practical alien creation impressed him enough that he actively pushed to make it part of a scene. That fits neatly with the growing impression that Starfighter is leaning into tactile, creature-heavy Star Wars filmmaking rather than treating aliens as set dressing. That last part is an inference, but it is a grounded one based on Gosling’s description of visiting the creature shop and building a scene around a specific creature.

Why It Matters for Starfighter

Lucasfilm officially announced Star Wars: Starfighter in April 2025, confirming that the film stars Ryan Gosling, is directed by Shawn Levy, is set about five years after The Rise of Skywalker, and is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 28, 2027. StarWars.com has also confirmed that production began in fall 2025 and later announced the cast.

So while Gosling is clearly being careful not to spoil anything, this quote still adds a useful piece to the puzzle: whatever Starfighter is doing with its creature work, it is apparently memorable enough that one scene instantly stood out to him as an all-timer.

The Creature Shop Is Doing Its Job

Honestly, that may be the best kind of early Star Wars update.

No vague “it’s going to be epic” talk. No empty hype. Just an actor saying he found a weird little creature, pushed for more of it, and ended up loving the scene.

That is a very Star Wars sentence. And that is probably a good sign.
