SWTOR’s Executive Producer Letter Sets Up Update 7.9, Teases 8.0, and Confirms More Spring Rewards

SWTOR’s latest Executive Producer letter is one of those updates that does a little bit of everything at once. It looks back at what has already landed in 2026, confirms that Game Update 7.9 “Legacy Reborn” is still coming later this spring, and makes it clear that the first real 8.0 feature details are being saved for the upcoming 7.9 livestream. In other words, Broadsword is trying to close out Legacy of the Sith while also warming players up for the game’s 15-year anniversary era.

Update 7.9 is the big story here

The headline item in the letter is Update 7.9, which Broadsword describes as the finale of the Legacy of the Sith storyline. The studio says the update will feature Darth Jadus, Darth Malgus, and Shae Vizla colliding in a major showdown, with players deciding where their loyalties land as the conflict plays out. There is still no exact release date in the post, but “later this Spring” is the current window, and the team says more details will come in the next developer livestream. That makes this less of a full reveal and more of a table-setter, but it is still the clearest sign yet that SWTOR is lining up one more big story beat before shifting focus to what comes next.

8.0 is still mostly under wraps — for now

If you were hoping the letter would finally blow the doors open on 8.0, not quite. Keith Kanneg says the team knows players want more concrete details, but the actual feature talk is being held back until the 7.9 livestream. What the letter does confirm is the communication plan: Broadsword intends to start rolling out more 8.0 information throughout the year, with the next major check-in tied directly to 7.9 coverage. That strongly suggests the studio sees Update 7.9 as the bridge between the current narrative arc and the next phase of SWTOR’s long-term roadmap. That last point is an inference based on how the letter frames the transition, not a phrase the post uses directly.

There is also plenty of smaller live-service housekeeping

The letter also recaps 7.8.1 and “Master’s Enigma,” notes that Torian Cadera and Kira Carsen both received new Date Night missions, and reiterates that French and German clients currently access that new story content with English voiceover and localized subtitles while additional language work continues. Broadsword also highlights Galactic Season 10, which brings back rewards from Seasons 1 and 3 alongside new items, and points players toward the Dantooine Spring Abundance Festival, which now includes a Mobile Abundance Basket Minipet on the seasonal vendor.

On top of that, the studio again points to the ongoing DirectX 12 migration, frames that work alongside the game’s move to 64-bit as a major long-term health investment, and reminds players they have until April 7 to claim the T2-26 Scout Walker Twitch Drop by watching five hours of SWTOR content on Twitch. Broadsword also quietly teases May the 4th celebrations, including Double XP, item sales, and both a login reward and a Subscriber reward, with full details promised in late April. For an end-of-quarter letter, it is a pretty efficient little package: one part roadmap, one part check-in, and one part “yes, there is still more stuff coming soon.”
