SWTOR 7.9 Sets Up the End of Legacy of the Sith — and Teases Ryloth for 8.0

SWTOR is about to close one chapter and quietly open a much bigger one.

Broadsword has posted its full Game Update 7.9 “Legacy Reborn” livestream recap, and the headline is clear: Legacy of the Sith is heading into its finale, Darth Jadus is back in the middle of the chaos, Khar Shian is becoming the next major flashpoint, and SWTOR 8.0 is already being positioned as the start of a new era. The full breakdown is available in the official Game Update 7.9 “Legacy Reborn” livestream recap.

Darth Jadus, Khar Shian, and the Final Showdown

The story setup is spicy in exactly the way SWTOR does best: too many dangerous Sith, too many personal agendas, and one ancient Force machine that absolutely should not be left unattended.

According to Broadsword, Darth Jadus has stolen Darth Nul’s holocron with help from a traitorous ally. He is now heading to Khar Shian, where Heta Kol and the Hidden Chain have reconstructed Darth Nul’s ultimate machine.

Meanwhile, Malgus and Shae Vizla are also heading to the Sith moon with their own motives.

So yes, this sounds less like a peaceful diplomatic mission and more like every unresolved Legacy of the Sith thread being thrown into one volcanic Sith blender.

A New Gameplay Twist: Playing as Other Characters

One of the more interesting 7.9 details is the new gameplay structure for the final confrontation.

Broadsword says the battle on Khar Shian will let players experience different gameplay perspectives from different characters. The recap specifically shows an example of the player fighting as Lana Beniko.

That is a smart move. SWTOR’s story has always worked best when it remembers that the supporting cast is not just decoration. Letting players step into other characters’ perspectives could make the finale feel bigger, more cinematic, and less like the player character is personally carrying the entire galaxy on one exhausted shoulder.

Twitch Drops, PvP Season 10, and Nightlife

There are also several limited-time rewards and events to track.

An active Twitch Drop is live now through May 14, rewarding players with the Dantooine (Crash Site) Poster Decoration after watching one hour of live SWTOR content. When 7.9 launches, watching four hours of live Twitch content will unlock the Nightshade Hssiss Mount.

PvP Season 10, titled Honor in Battle, launches with 7.9 and will run for 16 weeks. Rewards include new armor sets, decorations, titles, flairs, trophy decorations, flags, and new achievements.

The Nar Shaddaa Nightlife Event returns on June 30 for six weeks, with two new themed decorations joining the casino chaos.

Companion and Dantooine Quality-of-Life Changes

Game Update 7.9 also brings some practical cleanup.

The companion terminal will be disabled, and narratively unavailable companions will remain usable in gameplay through a new “Ineligible for Story” tab. That includes companions removed through story progression or player choices.

Dantooine Dynamic Encounters are also being adjusted. The “Wreckage on Dantooine” intro mission is getting cleaner onboarding, lower zone progression requirements, and the ability to skip the mission on later runs. The Orbital Core encounter will also be separated from the story mission, letting players finish the story without defeating the final boss.

That is the kind of change that will not trend on social media, but will quietly make repeat play much less annoying.

Galactic Season 11 and May the 4th Rewards

Galactic Season 11: Light and Shadow arrives with Game Update 7.9.1. Broadsword says it will operate similarly to Season 10, with several fan-favorite rewards from Seasons 2 and 4 returning.

Companions Fen Zeil and Amity are also coming back, with discounted companion gifts. New rewards include customizations, armor, hovercar mounts, stronghold labels, legacy titles, and character titles.

For May the 4th, SWTOR is also running rewards from May 1 to May 22, including Double XP, 50% off Collection Unlocks, up to 75% off inspired-by items, and new rewards inspired by The Mandalorian and Grogu. All players can claim the BX-RC Probe Droid Minipet, while active subscribers get the Vectron Phantom RC2 Mount.

8.0 Is Already the Big Tease

The most important forward-looking detail is SWTOR 8.0.

Broadsword says 8.0 will kick off the next era of The Old Republic’s storyline. Confirmed early features include:

  • a level cap increase to 85
  • gearing updates
  • combat balance and new abilities
  • a new three-boss Operation
  • Story and Veteran Modes at launch
  • a new planet: Ryloth
  • Dynamic Encounters on Ryloth

That is the big future hook. Legacy of the Sith is ending, but SWTOR is not slowing down. Ryloth alone is a strong pull — a major Star Wars world, the Twi’lek homeworld, and a location with plenty of room for politics, conflict, and old Republic-era weirdness.

Broadsword says 8.0 content is expected to hit the Public Test Server in the coming months, and the next developer livestream will focus completely on 8.0.

SWTOR Is Ending One Era With Its Eyes on the Next

Game Update 7.9 feels like a bridge update in the best possible way.

It is giving Legacy of the Sith a final showdown with Jadus, Malgus, Shae, Heta Kol, Darth Nul’s legacy, and Khar Shian all colliding. It is also cleaning up companions, improving Dantooine onboarding, launching a new PvP season, setting up Galactic Season 11, and dropping May the 4th rewards.

But the real headline might be 8.0.

A new level cap. A new Operation. A new planet. Ryloth. A new story era.

For a game that has now lived through several Star Wars gaming generations, SWTOR is still finding ways to keep its galaxy moving. You can see where it sits in the broader timeline in our complete list of all Star Wars games ever made, but this update makes one thing clear: The Old Republic is not ready for the archive shelf yet.

Legacy of the Sith is almost over.

Ryloth is waiting.
