SWTOR in PC Gamer UK Magazine

When I dropped by the supermarket this weekend I noticed that one of the magazines had a familiar Sith Warrior  on the cover. And indeed, what I found was PC Gamer UK’s April 2010 issue, which they’ve labeled “The MMO issue”. And indeed it is, with articles looking at WoW: Cataclysm, a number of future MMOs, rating a number of current MMOs against each other, a free trial for EvE Online on the cover DVD and a number of other articles. But the main article of interest is a six-page article, titled “Tour de Force” looking at Star Wars: The Old Republic. Not that there’s much of any new information in it. Considering when the magazine was published it can’t even cover the presentation given last week during GDC. Though it’s still a nice read. I won’t include scans of the article because I’m sure they’d not be happy with…

May the schwartz be with you: Spike TV – Star Wars ads

Unless you’ve been stuck upside down in a wampa cave, you probably have heard that Spike TV was airing the entire Star Wars saga, back in April 2008. In case anybody missed the news, Spike was telling the world about this television premiere with some head-turning outdoor ads, starting at Penn Plaza in New York City. Check it out: Along side the billboard adds Spiked TV also ran some Genius TV ads. Most people I know have only seen the first one that was aired, but here is a collection of all them:     See below for the press release from prnewswire.com:Spike TV Enters a New Galaxy With the Complete Star Wars(TM) Saga Features The Broadcast Premiere of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and the Basic Cable Premieres of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones Feel…

Fan Friday: Composing the Sith Inquisitor Developer Blog

The latest Fan Friday content has been posted on the official Old Republic site! This week Sean presents the TOR community with a developer blog from writer Rebecca Harwick giving an overview of the Sith Inquisitor: When we set out to build our game, we knew we needed more than one Sith class. The original trilogy only has two Sith in it, but they couldn’t be more different: the heavily armored brutal physicality of Darth Vader compared to the frail but immensely powerful Emperor Palpatine. When we extend our inspiration to Episodes I-III and The Clone Wars cartoons, Count Dooku, Darth Maul, and Asajj Ventress further expand our concept of what a Sith can be. Is a Sith a lithe quick fighter who uses the Force to enhance his/her physical combat prowess, a calculating deceiver adept at Lightsaber duels, or a master manipulator and amasser of dark side secrets? Does…

Know your legends: Atton Rand

Atton Rand is one of those characters in the Star Wars universe who starts off as a simple scoundrel but gradually reveals layers of complexity that make him a fan favorite. First introduced in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords (KOTOR II), Atton plays a significant role as a companion to the Jedi Exile. His journey from a former Sith assassin to a reluctant hero is filled with humor, tragedy, and redemption. In this article, we’ll dive deep into Atton Rand’s character, exploring his origins, his connection to key events in the Star Wars universe, and his legacy. Chapter 1: The Origins of Atton Rand From the Streets to the Stars Atton Rand didn’t exactly have a fairytale start in life. Born in the rougher parts of the galaxy, Atton’s early years were shaped by a deep-seated distrust of authority and a knack for…

An Inside Look at Star Wars: The Old Republic

GameSpy has a preview article up for Star Wars: The Old Republic. This looks to be from the November press event where they unveiled the Jedi Consular and the Sith Inquisitor (and the Imperial Agent IIRC). Here’s an excerpt: Before delving into the gameplay demo proper, BioWare unveiled the final list of classes. The approach that the developers are taking with class design eschews the traditional roles you’ve seen in most MMOs, where a balanced party is comprised of an aggro-generating tank, damage-dealers, and a healer. Instead, the intent is to allow players to live out their Star Wars fantasies, presenting familiar but flexible character archetypes. The eight playable classes are as follows, with noteworthy inspirations from the Star Wars universe. It’s a fairly brief article without anything new that I’ve noticed. In fact, some of their points are questionable (such as their list of iconic characters with each class;…

SW:TOR in Total PC Gaming UK Magazine

I went to buy my Christmas cards today and as I walked past the magazine rack in the store I noticed that one magazine had “Exclusive Star Wars the Old Republic” in big, bold letters on the cover, on top of an image of a Jedi that I hadn’t seen before. Picking up the magazine (which turned out to be “Total PC Gaming”) found that it had a five-page preview (not counting the title page). And since it includes the last two classes it’s definitely new. So I bought the magazine. The magazine comes with a DVD containing screenshots and videos of the game (some 45minutes worth), but it’s nothing you haven’t already seen. All the screenshots can be found on the official website as well (a number of them fairly old in fact). The videos consist of the cinematic trailer from E3, the gameplay walkthrough from CamesCom and the…

Star Wars: Master of Evil – A Spoiler-Free, Fan-to-Fan Review

Okay, let’s get this out of the way first: if you’re even remotely into Darth Vader, this book is going to hit you right in the lightsaber-loving heart. Star Wars: Master of Evil by Adam Christopher is not just another Vader story. It’s a moody, mysterious, and surprisingly emotional deep dive into the early days of the galaxy’s most iconic villain. And yes, I devoured it with the same energy I bring to binge-watching Clone Wars at 2 a.m. Before we go further — if you’re already sold and just want to order the book (I don’t blame you), you can grab it right now on Amazon . No judgment. I’d click too. A Dark Lord, Fresh Out of the Fire This story picks up shortly after Revenge of the Sith — and if that doesn’t excite you already, then my friend, we need to talk. Vader’s suit is still…

Rogue One’s Vader Hallway Scene Gets an Accidental Remake in Star Wars Battlefront II

Some moments in Star Wars are so iconic, they live rent-free in the collective gaming subconscious. Case in point: the infamous Darth Vader hallway massacre from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It’s cinematic brutality at its finest—dark corridor, panicked Rebels, and Vader igniting his saber like the embodiment of fear itself. Well, that scene just got a surprising revival in an entirely different medium: a spontaneous match of Star Wars Battlefront II. And no, it wasn’t some planned machinima project—it was pure chaos magic, captured mid-game by a Reddit user who had no idea what they were recreating until it was too late. From Steam Lobby to Sith Legend: The Accidental Recreation Reddit user u/NikolaMirzai recently shared a clip on the r/StarWarsBattlefront subreddit titled: “I accidentally recreated the hallway scene…but on Steam.” And yes—it’s exactly what it sounds like. In a hero-vs-troopers skirmish, the player (as Vader) storms a…

Christopher Lee portraying Count Dooku in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

10 Years Without Count Dooku: Remembering Christopher Lee’s Legacy in Star Wars

June 7 marks ten years since Sir Christopher Lee departed this world — or, as some would say in the Star Wars universe, became one with the Force. A full decade later, his deep voice still echoes across the galaxy, and his presence as Count Dooku remains one of the most commanding in the entire franchise. Forget noisy Sith like Maul or rage-fueled tantrums à la Anakin — Lee’s Dooku was a masterclass in aristocratic menace. He didn’t just swing a lightsaber; he debated you with it. Let’s take a hyperspace jump back through the career of the man who made treason look classy and evil sound like Shakespeare. ⚔️ Count Dooku: The Sith Lord Who Brought Swagger to the Dark Side Introduced in Attack of the Clones (2002), Count Dooku — also known as Darth Tyranus — wasn’t your typical Sith baddie. Star Wars: Empire at War – The RTS Classic That Still Rules the Galaxy

Back in 2006, Star Wars: Empire at War took real-time strategy (RTS) gaming to a galaxy far, far away. Released on February 16, 2006, and developed by Petroglyph Games, this was the Star Wars strategy game that many had been waiting for. It wasn’t just about leading a few troops on the ground or controlling a handful of ships in space. Empire at War put players in charge of the entire Galactic Civil War, letting them command fleets, deploy ground forces, and engage in both space and planetary battles. Unlike many Star Wars games of the time that focused on first-person combat (Battlefront) or RPG storytelling (Knights of the Old Republic), this one went all-in on strategy. It gave players the power to wage war on a galactic scale, choosing to play as either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. But what really set Empire at War apart was…
