As usual, BioWare will take down the servers for scheduled maintenance on this upcoming Tuesday July 24. The servers will be down from 2AM CDT to 6AM CDT, and when they come back up, players will have to download a patch. CourtneyWoodsHello everyone, we wanted to let you know that we will be performing scheduled maintenance for four hours on Tuesday, July 24th, 2012 from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) until 6AM CDT (4AM PDT/7AM EDT/12PM BST/1PM CEST/9PM AEST). All game servers and SWTOR.com will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more than four hours, but could be extended. This weekly maintenance is done in order to make general improvements and to check performance of the game so that we can continue to provide a consistent, quality experience. Quite often (but not always) after a maintenance period there will be a patch to download….

SWTOR: True Server Merge Coming Later this Summer?
While they are still not saying “merge”, it seems a true merge is incoming later this summer. Many people are talking about a server merge on a greater scale and while BioWare is not actually using that terminology, it does seem like this might be what’s happening coming soon. And will it be such a bad thing? Seems like all the players I have talked to say if it makes the game better and gives them more people to play with, they’re ok with whatever BioWare needs to do. In a blog on the official servers, BioWare explains more about the Free Character Transfer Service, server populations and what that means to you and me: Hi everyone, We want to thank all players that have participated in our Free Character Transfer Service. With strong destination server populations, we hope that you’re enjoying the improved gameplay experience and are excited about…

New set of transfer options for EU PVP/RP servers.
JovethGonzalez (BioWare rep) has just announced new availeble destination servers for some of the European RP-PvP servers. Until now, it has only been possible for players on those servers to transfers to other PvP servers, but now they get the option to choose a RP-PvE serve. The servers who get this option is: Lord Calypho, Jen’jidai, Huntmaster. Players who already transfered their characters to the PvP servers, can contact CS to help them transfer again. Check out the forum post here, or our copy past below: Today , 07:18 PM | #874 REPORT POST QUOTE Hi folks, As promised, we’ve been monitoring the state of populations on the remaining European RP-PvP servers (Lord Calypho, Jen’jidai, Huntmaster) since we’ve allowed for transfers to PvP destination servers. Based on current populations on these three servers, we are now going to open up an additional RP-PVE destination server for the remaining population. The…
Current Available Transfers – Complete List June 13
Well, here we are on day 2 of server transfers and it seems some of the kinks are getting worked out. We brought you details of the server transfers yesterday but it does seem that more details are being worked out regarding server transfers. Some players were having issues with moving all 8 characters to a new server. On the last one, they would get a hangup and it would not transfer. BioWare kindly provided this workaround on the forums: We have a workaround for this issue: Log into the server where you have 7 successfully transferred characters Create a new character, species/profession are not important Once you are through the login intro, log back out to character select Delete the new character. Return to the character transfer page, and it should correctly list 7 characters on the destination server Should you require any further assistance, please post here. Reddit…
Current Available Transfers

News concerning transfers and group-finder can come as soon as next week.
Mr. Stepehn Reid shared some interesting info on twitter yesterday. Apparently we are getting closer to a server merge. This is great news as many servers feel like ghost towns after Diablo 3 launched. This is not because SWTOR is dying, but the game got 280+ servers. TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY! Now, iIf you take that 280 servers then break it down into how many freaking instances and individual planets and other zones it’s no wonder the game feels like a ghost town. I play on one of the healthiest servers and I still find the population lacking compared to release. I think I haven’t fought a single Empire on PvP Warzones for the past week with my 50s toons. Merging servers now will solve the group/operations finder problem, PvP problems, lack of items on GTNs… I wonder who in BioWare can’t figure this out now. They need to merge servers if not now at…
Players Created a Premature Oceanic Server with Guild System
Gamers often go a long way to get what they want and this story from Massively explains just what some SWTOR fans will do to get their server to play on. We are never lacking for creative and ingenious gamers who find workarounds for all of their problems and issues. The early lack of Oceanic and Asian servers led some players to get creative and find their own method around it, using BioWare’s own system to their advantage. Many MMOs have unofficial servers for regions and rulesets, but pulling them together can take an incredible amount of work and still end up halfway done. However, Oceanic and Asian players wanted to make sure that they all rolled on the same server right on launch day, so guilds began to get in contact with each other and use BioWare’s own guild registration system to link Republic and Empire groups together in…
SWTOR Faction Balance and Population Numerical Data
Here’s some really interesting information about US PvE/RP servers regarding faction balance and population. If you love data (like me), you’re going to appreciate this one. There’s not a lot of current information out about the server population. Which servers are over populated? Which servers are dead? Are you looking to join a server that will have people to play with regularly or do you want a low-pop server where you can just do your own thing? This is valuable information for any gamer and a poster at Reddit has helped us out with some data: That being said, there has being hardly any numerical data on the server population and Imperial/Republic balance. Bioware is unlikely to release this data anytime soon, if ever. I went to 79 PVE/RP servers and created two level 1 characters per server over the span of 3-4 days and recorded the population data for…
SWTOR Servers Down on a Friday Night- Plus Scheduled Maintenance Jan 31st
Players were shocked by unexpected downtime last night right in the middle of Friday night/ Saturday morning gameplay for SWTOR. The forums went down, too, meaning frustrated players couldn’t even go rage about why they were kicked off their favorite game. Some took to Twitter to complain about it while we awaited the return of the servers and an explanation as to what had happened. A forum post explained it earlier in the day but few people caught it. Most of us were informed of the server shut down by the in-game notifications as we were playing. That post on the Official forums goes onto explain the upcoming scheduled maintenance: Scheduled Maintenance Date: Tuesday, January 31st, 2012 Time: 2AM CST (12AM PST/3AM EST/8AM GMT/9AM CET) until 10AM CST (8AM PST/11AM EST/4PM GMT/5PM CET) All game servers and swtor.com will be offline during this period. This maintenance is expected to take no more…
Official SWTOR Server Forums Coming This Week
Allison Berryman, Senior Community Coordinator had an interesting update in the official forums about forum changes coming next week. All in all, it looks like the changes will help make the forums easier for everyone involved to use. One of the biggest changes- server forums are being implemented. Here’s more from Allison: In the layout we have now, things like Guild Recruitment and Server Events are spread out and can be difficult to locate. We’ve also seen some requests for places on the forums where players can go to discuss things more closely with others on their particular server, and for a place for suggestions for the game. To start addressing some of these concerns, we will introduce a new forum section: Server Group Forums, and will place the Suggestion Box back in its rightful place under General Discussion. The Server Group Forums will be divided by server type (PvE,…
SWTOR Server Types and PvP Rulesets Announced
Are you ready for SWTOR yet? As we get closer to the eventual release date, more information is being released via the forums and from official staff regarding different aspects of the game and what we can expect from it. There will be four different server types in Star Wars: The Old Republic and each of these server types will have different rules. You may as well learn about them now so you can start planning which server type you want to play on in order to get the most from your experience in the game. You may also want to talk to your friends who will be playing with you to make sure you are all on the same page about the server type you want to play on. On the official SWTOR servers, David Bass explains the server types that will be in SWTOR: PvE (Player vs Environment)…
