Battlefront II: E3 and EA’s eSports Aspirations

If you were going to speak about the current status of eSports in a language that all Star Wars fans understand, you could perhaps say that the force is strong with this one. It may not have yet been totally embraced by the mainstream, but every year eSports edges closer to that level with broadcasters showing major tournaments and the concept genuinely becoming big business. Like more standard sports, there are now thousands of fans attending events in person and millions more watching online, with major tournaments and teams attracting huge sponsorship deals with global brands including Audi and Red Bull. There is now even a burgeoning eSports betting scene, with sites like Bets io offering odds on major ties being played…

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Trailer recreated in Battlefront 2 2005

Here is something pretty awesome. Youtuber Angry Ewok had to much time on his hands, and decided to recreat the complease Star Wars: Battlefront 2 trailer showcased at EA play last week. Check it out: As as stated in the beginning, this is both crazily awesome, and sad at the same time. I haven’t played BF2 for some time, and I don’t remember it looking this… bad. Part of that is because I am  remembering the parts of the new Battlefront 2 and how they’re similar, and thereby comparing them in my mind even if I  don’t realize it… And I am comparing these graphics to the graphics of the new game, and the gap is so wide it makes these seem even worse. But that is just me rambling. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is slated for release on November 17 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 with a $59.99 price tag….

Why Battlefront 2 Needs an eSports Element

Star Wars-themed computer games have such a hugely dedicated following simply because the games enable every fan to explore and live in their own part of the Star Wars universe. In many ways, this is the holy grail of a good Star Wars game, with titles like Star Wars: Rebellion and the original Star Wars Battlefront game allowing gamers to indulge their fantasies of running the Galactic Empire or helping the Rebel Alliance to become rulers of the galaxy. This formula has been successful for handing Star Wars games an enduring popularity, and has even helped to keep them relevant and popular during the dark days of the prequels (days which still cause fans to shudder when looking back at some of the storylines and acting!) but now gaming is changing, and perhaps it is finally time for Star Wars games to change with the gaming landscape. In a Galaxy Not…

Instead the game will  Star Wars Battlefront II. The first content update will arive togeter with Star Wars: The last jedi in december, and add Finn and Captain Phasma to the game, as well as planet Crait. This all sound good and nice, but Speaking to GameSpot, the game’s design director Niklas Fegraeus said the game will add microtransactions to the game. Fegraeus elaborated on the new system as follows: “When you want to progress and get stuff, you can either play the game and when you play you earn the in-game currency, and with that you can spend towards whatever you want, if you want to accelerate that, if you can’t play for a week, you can purchase that. The important thing is everything can…

Star Wars Battlefront 2: Official Gameplay Trailer

So the new Star Wars Battlefront 2: Official Gameplay Trailer just hit the internet… Kashyyyk, Kamino, starkiller base, Yavin, holy shit. Did y’all see that wookiee. First shown at E3 in Los Angeles, the new trailer demonstrates just how expansive it will be, pulling in characters, locations, and vehicles that cover the entire 40-year history of the saga. It even has those Phantom Menace battle droids ( they look pretty dope eh? ) That beginning shot of the The First Order switching to Stormtroppers switching to Clones with the lightning flashes is so awesome. We’re still early in the hype cycle for the game, but this might be good guys. Story mode seems interesting to. What do you thing guys? Did EA just redeem itself? Holy shit. If they can deliver on what this trailer promises…. this will be one of the greatest games. And I’m just so happy prequels aren’t ignored…

Star Wars Battlefront 2 gameplay footage leaks

Someone “accidentally” leaked 12 minutes of gameplay from the upcomming Star Wars Battlefront 2 online. This 12 minute video gives us a good taste of how it will look and feel to play as Darth Maul and Rey. Check out the video below. While the video quality is a bit lacking, this gives you a pretty decent sense of the game and it’s pretty cool to see Rey going toe-to-toe with Darth Maul. The footage was original shared by youtuber NukemDukem’s EA Play footage, which was likely recorded before the event. The video featured a “sponsored by EA” graphic in the lower left-hand corner, but has now been removed. But as with anything ells on the web, it has been shared and is now all over the place for our viewing pleasure. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is slated for release on November 17 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 with a…

There is a lot of buzz about Star Wars Battlefront 2 going around, as the much anticipated game will be launching this year. The recent DICE games of Battlefield and Battlefront have seen a growth in sales over time where games like Call of Duty are on the decline in sales. The Call of Duty franchise was a massive hit but it may have already peaked. This article from Gamer Headquarters talks about how Battlefront 2 could beat Call of Duty when it comes to sales. Here’s part of what they had to say about it: “The first Star Wars Battlefront topped over 14 million sales which is damn impressive for a franchise that’s been sitting dormant for many years. Sure, carrying the Star Wars name is helpful though to hit that level of sales is most certainly impressive. This really being for any game as few hit that high…

Battlefront II Will Be a Better Game but Possible Financial Disappointment

If you’re like the rest of us, you might be anxiously awaiting Battlefront II. The thing is, we don’t really know very much about it. That’s how they generally do these games. Anything Star Wars, especially since the new films have started production, is kept under lock and key for the most part, until it’s ready for release. That leaves a lot of open doors for speculation and Mathew Falvai of a90skid.com has some theories on what will happen with Battlefront II. In this post, he describes why he thinks it will be a better game but an overall financial disappointment. “My prediction is that gamers will do what they traditionally do and judge a game based on their last experience. The new Battlefront promises more robust single-player content, and an actual campaign, fixing two of the major issues. With the foundation of a jaw-droppingly beautiful engine and reusable assets already in place, DICE had…

No More New Content Updates For Star Wars Battlefront

It appears that Dice won’t release any more new content updates for Star Wars Battlefront. Since it’s no longer a secret that Battlefront 2 is in the works, it’s not really a big chock, but at least we now got an official confirmation on it, as EA Star Wars tweeted out: “There are currently no plans to add any new content updates to Star Wars Battlefront. ” @Gamemaster6481 There are currently no plans to add any new content updates to Star Wars Battlefront. — EAStarWars (@EAStarWars) February 15, 2017 So, I guess we have to stick with the game as it is,  until the sequel is out later this year. The Story Behind the Doomed Battlefront 3

Sadly, there was a battlefront game that was never meant to be: Battlefront 3. Star Wars Battlefront is an action shooter video game developed by EA DICE, with additional work from Criterion Games, and published by Electronic Arts. Battlefront 3 was the game that we never got. Details and salvaged footage from Free Radical’s Star Wars Battlefront 3 can now be found online. The same game was once in alpha at TimeSplitters development studio, but cancelled. Eventually DICE picked it up and rebooted it, but without any of the original ideas. A Battlefront 3 campaign was going to see twin clones on a mission to boost the Galactic Republic. So fans of Star Wars: Battlefront I and Star Wars: Battlefront II were looking for their Star Wars: Battlefront III and got Star Wars Battlefront instead. A lot of people were disappointed in EA’s Star Wars Battlefront for various reasons. Gameplay video from the cancelled Star Wars Battlefront 3

Here is a pretty nifty look at the cancelled Battlefront 3’s first campaign mission. The video was uploaded by Youtube User FuZaH who has the following to say about it: Yup, I had some more tucked away. (I seriously apologise for the earrape level of the audio. The footage must’ve been captured like that. I’ve ran it through Premiere to limit the peaks but its still pretty bad. RIP headphone users.) Also; this is alpha footage from early November. I’d assume a few of the bugs in this were worked out in their last build. If any ex-Free Radical/LucasArts developers see this video, and have a build, I would be very appreciative if you contacted me. I’d like to discuss a few things with you. Also, EA, to make up for the disappointment that is “EAFront”, could you just finish this game and release it as Battlefront: Legacy? If you don’t want…

Star Wars: Battlefront Getting a Change in Leadership

According to a Tweet from Battlefront’s lead designer, Dennis Brannvall, there could be a change in leadership happening. He announced he has worked his last day on Battlefront and it’s time to pass the reigns. He’s taking paternity leave to help out with his boys, one a recently announced new addition to the family. So today I worked my last day on Battlefront. I’ll be on paternity leave, taking care of my two boys. See you next year! — Dennis Brännvall (@DICE_FireWall) November 7, 2016 Many from the US will agree that we need better maternity/paternity leave programs here as dads nearly never secure time off and the mothers get only a short time, or are sometimes forced to quit or have their positions replaced while they are away on maternity leave. Lucky for Brannvall, he lives in a country that respects the value of family and he should be back…
