Rumor: Lucasfilm Has Reportedly Ended Its Partnership With Aspyr

Lucasfilm has reportedly ended its long-running relationship with Aspyr following concerns surrounding the KOTOR Remake, the launch of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, and the overall quality of several classic Star Wars rereleases.

The claim comes from The Star Wars Garrison, citing unnamed sources close to the matter.

Neither Lucasfilm nor Aspyr has confirmed the report, so this remains firmly in rumor territory.

KOTOR and Battlefront Reportedly Ended the Partnership

Aspyr was originally developing the Knights of the Old Republic Remake, but the project was later moved to Saber Interactive following reports of internal problems and dissatisfaction with the studio’s progress.

Then came Battlefront Classic Collection.

The 2024 rerelease launched with server problems, bugs, missing features, and widespread criticism. What should have been an easy celebration of two beloved Star Wars games instead became another warning sign attached to Aspyr’s name.

According to the new report, those two projects were the final blows to the partnership.

More Classic Star Wars Games May Have Been Planned

The most interesting part of the rumor is what Lucasfilm and Aspyr may have been working on next.

The source claims additional projects included a modern rerelease of Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and further work on the Jedi Knight series featuring Kyle Katarn.

That would be a major loss for fans of classic Star Wars games.

Galactic Battlegrounds remains one of the most fondly remembered Star Wars strategy titles, while several Kyle Katarn games still need proper modern versions.

The Report Also Claims a $40 Million Loss

The source alleges that the partnership ultimately cost Lucasfilm close to $40 million.

That figure has not been independently verified, and it is unclear whether it refers to canceled development, discarded work, licensing costs, or projected losses.

For now, it should be treated with considerable caution.

A Believable Rumor, but Still Unconfirmed

There are clear reasons why Lucasfilm may have lost confidence in Aspyr.

The studio lost control of the KOTOR Remake, canceled promised content for KOTOR II on Nintendo Switch, and delivered a deeply troubled Battlefront Classic Collection launch.

That makes the reported split plausible.

But until Lucasfilm, Aspyr, or a major industry outlet confirms it, this remains an unverified report.

The bigger question is what happens to the classic projects apparently left behind.

Because a polished Galactic Battlegrounds rerelease and properly preserved Kyle Katarn collection would have been considerably more exciting than another generation of players discovering server errors.
