1.6 Million WoW players ‘could switch to Old Republic’ according to surveys

The battle between SWTOR and WoW rages on and as we get even closer to the launch date of TOR (December 20th) we continue to hear talk of WoW players who are or are not planning to jump ship and trade one game for the other.

“Analyst house Lazard Capital Markets thinks World of Warcraft could lose between 900,000 and 1.6 million players following December’s Star Wars: The Old Republic launch”, as reported on Computer and Video Games.
The stats aren’t really that surprising when you think about it. People are getting tired of WoW. It’s something we’ve written about many times and this also wouldn’t be the first analyst or expert to make such a prediction.
The story explains:
“A recent survey conducted by the firm in conjunction with Peanut Labs found that over 50 percent of 381 respondents have grown tired of Blizzard’s game.”
This really isn’t a big surprise to those of us who have been around the WoW scene a long time. I know that there are WoW-haters out there but I for one, am not one of them. I’ve played the game since beta and really appreciate it for what it is. It was not my first MMO or my first video game but it was one that I have played for quite some time.
I still enjoy certain things about it but overall, I’ve grown tired of it as well, just as so many others are saying. New expansions only hold interest for so long and new level caps and requirements just feel like more of a grind. I’ve been reluctant to cancel my subscription because I am a guild leader and like to log on and say hi to friends, play with the Auction House and goof off now and then but I no longer play regularly, raid or level characters. I have a max of every class… I feel like I’ve done all there is to do and it just doesn’t interest me anymore.
According to these surveys, it seems a lot of other people are feeling the same way and they are hoping that SWTOR will give them something new to feel excited about once more. If you’ve had a chance to try the beta weekend, you may be able to answer that question for yourself. Would you quit WoW (or some other MMO) for SWTOR?
