The Cartel Market seems to be a winner for BioWare because just recently, they issued another game update with yet another change to the Cartel Market. The problem is not all players are happy with this system. Before we get to that, it’s important to note that nearly every update since November of 2012 has brought updates to the Cartel Market.
The Spry Minds says best what a lot of players are already thinking: Why can’t I buy what I want?
Here’s a snippet from a post they did on this very topic:
In the latest game update, Bioware has released some of the best gear creation the team has done to date and of course it’s only available for purchase outside of the game. ot surprisingly, they are only available via Cartel Packs, which is nothing short of playing slot machines at your local casino. Put your money in and you might get lucky and get something that you want or that someone else might want. Most of the time you don’t get either and feel like you’ve just wasted your money.
The only other way to get those items is to hope someone lists them on the Galactic Trade Network (GTN) and buy them with in-game currency. Of course, due to item rarity or popularity those prices quickly go through the roof if they’re available at all. Therefore, unless you’re spending your time not playing the game by grinding daily missions for credits on a daily basis, you are out of luck. Also, if you want a piece of gear that is in an older Cartel Pack it may be very hard to find it on the GTN even if you have the means of purchasing it. Since there is no option to buy it directly from the Cartel Market you’re stuck gambling with Cartel Pack purchases.
What’s the beef then? Well, they’re giving us really cool new gear and many players had admitted they’d be willing to drop cold hard cash on these goodies but the problem is, you can only get them in packs. You cannot just pick the item you want and buy it. Really what they are doing with this system is giving you the option to buy a chance at getting your item.
Obviously, this is frustrating to players. It comes off like a scheme for more money… whether BioWare means it that way or not. Players are saying “Just let us buy what we want!” We’re willing to give you our cash but let us choose what we get with it.
The gamble of the Cartel Market is frustrating to many players because it’s really lacking in value to the customer. The odds are not in favor of us getting the rare or super rare items. We have to buy these packs and hope we get what we want. It’s frustrating for many and you can really rack up a lot of money spent trying to get the items you want.
So what do you think?
