The Battle of Ilum, also known as the Flashpoint in Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR), is a pivotal moment in the game’s story. It is a level 50 flashpoint that takes place on the ice-covered planet of Ilum, where the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire are locked in a fierce struggle for control of the planet’s resources. Ilum is a sacred place for the Jedi Order, as it is home to the Crystal Caves, which are the source of the crystals used to construct lightsabers. The planet is also rich in Adegan crystals, which are used in the construction of blasters and other high-tech equipment. As such, both sides are willing to go to great lengths to secure control of the planet. The flashpoint begins with the player character (PC) being sent to Ilum by their respective faction to assist in the ongoing conflict. Upon arrival, the PC…

Intergalactic Intel: Ilum
I stared at a lagging computer screen. I was averaging maybe 3 frames per second. I had been in operation groups before, but never this big or laggy. “So what are you doing?” My brother said as I stared at the screen hoping to make a difference in the ongoing battle. “Me personally?” I stared into the abyss of red names and lightning. “Every so often I run up, force pull someone into our group and then force speed away.” “But aren’t you a tank?” “Tanks still die when 30 people jump them.” Welcome back to another installment of Intergalactic Intel! This week we’re talking about that nasty old Ilum! For those of you who don’t know, Ilum is the “final planet” currently in SWTOR for all classes. While we’re not going to focus on the dailies or the story quest, we’re going to focus on the real elephant in…
Patch 1.1.2 Causes More Ilum Bugs – Emergency patch today!
Just when you thought PvP on Ilum was fixed, BioWare came in and borked it again! Patch 1.1.2 is reported to have caused even more bugs in Ilum. The biggest issue: kills on Ilum are not counting towards daily and weekly quests. According to reports in the official SWTOR forums, this problem occurred after Star Wars: The Old Republic patch 1.1.2 went live yesterday. After some time of no response to the players, Associate Online Community Manager Joveth Gonzalez came in for an update, saying this: “The dev team has been investigating the cause of this issue and they’re closer to figuring out a solution. As mentioned before, we’ll keep you updated with any new developments. Thanks again for your patience on this.” Blah, blah, blah… sounds like the same old thing that really means, “Oops, we broke it. We don’t know how to fix it but we’re working on…
Ilum Datacron Locations
Ilum was the ice planet home to many of the Adegan crystals used in the construction of Jedi lightsabers. The caverns containing the crystals were long ago turned into a Jedi temple. Unlike the crystals of other planets, the crystals of Ilum could only produce green and blue lightsaber crystals. Ilum was first discovered in 22,800 BBY when a Jedi, navigating hyperspace in the Force, felt a strong pull deep from the Unknown Regions. Following the sensation, the scout had found a world rich in Force-strong crystals. The mystique of the discovery added it to the ceremony of lightsaber construction. Read more about Ilum here and check out the Datacron guide below: Don’t forget to check out constantly growing list of guides for Star Wars: The old republic 83) Aim + 4 Datacron Coordinates: X 920, Y 1072 This Datacron is located in far southeastern Ilum, to reach it you will need to…
SWTOR update 1.1 Valor Bug Patched- Exploiters Punished
The first SWTOR update, patch 1.1 was a rocky one indeed. While there are many great things that came with Rise of the Rakghouls, there were also some bugs and issues. The biggest of which was the open-world PvP zone of Ilum. The new patch allowed the easy exploitation of this zone and some players took maximum advantage of the opportunity to farm up large amounts of Valor points. Game Zone actually previously predicted this would happen: When the patch first went live, our very own Andrew Clouther wrote in his initial impressions that the new system would fail due to server imbalance – predicting the faction with more players would crush, camp, and “make the other factions’ life hell””. And sure enough, that is exactly what happened with this patch. As GameZone reports: In some cases, people were rumored to get as many as 20 Valor levels in about…
TOR TV: REAL World PvP on Ilum Patch 1.1
Reading Reddit and the official forums yesterday I became a sad sad panda. For some reason people are more interested in broken stuff, then all the cool stuff that works really well. I don’t understand what is happening and why the community is developing in to such a unproductive sad place, becourse we all know that Star Wars: The old republic is an AWESOME game. If you don’t you won’t be reading this story in the first place. Below is a 2 hour video showing FUN openworld pvp. I don’t expect you to watch it all, but the next time you feel like exploiting or in any other way destroying open world PVP on Ilum, see a few minuts of the video, and understand that you are doing it wrong! SWTOR’s New Patch Created a Mess on Ilum
While some were celebrating the new patch today (SWTOR Patch 1.1), others were frustratingly being farmed on Ilum as they attempted to complete daily and weekly PvP quests. What resulted was a bit of a disaster if you’re on the wrong side. And even if you weren’t, it created some pretty severe system load from all of those people in one area. “”We’re currently investigating potential issues related to the Ilum open world PvP area post-1.1. We understand that this is a topic of much discussion and we ask that you please direct all discussions to this thread,” writes Joveth Gonzalez on the official SWTOR forums. He also reminds everyone of the forum rules when posting on this issue: “As always, we ask that the community keep the following things on mind when responding: No insults, name calling, or personal attacks Please stay on topic. If someone violates the Rules…
BioWare Banning for Using Profanity in SWTOR?
There has been a buzz recently about BioWare dropping the ban-hammer with prejudice on SWTOR gamers for things such as profanity, going to Illum before level 50 and anything that appears like chat “spam”, even if accidental. This has a lot of players asking if BioWare is being too heavy-handed in their banning practices. While most of the threads on the official forums about it are quickly locked or deleted, there is a discussion going on about it at Reddit and one user also captured a screenshot of their ban warning email which was posted on the forums but that thread was later deleted. Basically, this user said he was sent an email warning after using profanity in private tells to friends in game. The email warns the user that he will be banned if he is caught using this language again. No one seems to be able to get…

Establishing a Temple over the Crystal Caves, Ilum became a place of great importance, as sacred as Ossus and Tython. The temple served as a shelter and place of ritual for the Jedi who traveled here. To ensure the security of the planet and the crystals, the planet had…
Ilum: Dark Plans for Power?
Today’s official update is a planet reveal. And a surprising one (to me anyway) at that. After Hoth already having been revealed I’m surprised to see another ice planet. But regardless, BioWare revealed that they have included the ice planet<span< a=””> class=”Apple-style-span” style=”color: #cccccc; font-family: ‘Trebuchet MS’, Trebuchet, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;”> Ilum in the game. Here is the official news: </span<> With the final outcome of the war between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic still undecided, the icy planet Ilum sits squarely in the cross-hairs. The crystals that grow here in abundance are the source of incredible power and possibility. Jedi and Sith alike have long sought them for their Lightsabers, but the ramifications may go much deeper. Recently the Empire launched a major assault against the Jedi on Ilum, destroyed the Order’s sanctuaries, and initiated an ambitious operation of unknown intent. With its forces already spread thin, the Republic…
