Marvel Comics and Disney have joined forces to create a six-issue comic adaptation of “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, set to release its first issue in September 2023. This miniseries, featuring the iconic Jedi Knight, promises to bring a new medium to the galaxy far, far away.
Authored by Jody Houser, a seasoned writer in the world of Star Wars comics, the miniseries aims to offer new insights into old favorites and introduce some fantastic new characters. Each issue of the miniseries will adapt an episode from the Disney Plus series, “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, translating the narrative from the screen to the comic page.
Adaptations are how I got my start in Star Wars comics, and I’m always excited to try my hand at another,” shared Houser, who has built an extensive portfolio of Star Wars comics, including works on “Empire”, “Yoda”, “Thrawn”, and many more.
Salvador Larocca, renowned for his pencil work, will lend his talents to the project. I’m very pleased to be back in the Star Wars galaxy. After Darth Vader and the main Star Wars titles, now it’s time for me to take on Obi-Wan Kenobi!” Larocca declared. His previous works in the Star Wars universe, including “Doctor Aphra” and the issues collected in “Krrsantan: Star Wars Tales”, bolster his credentials for the task at hand.
Phil Noto, Lee Garbett, and Taurin Clarke have contributed to the project by designing the main cover and variant covers for the series, further enhancing the visual appeal of the upcoming miniseries.
Marvel fans can also look forward to more adaptations in the pipeline, such as an 8-issue comic series based on the second season of “The Mandalorian”.
The “Obi-Wan Kenobi” miniseries is expected to add a fresh dimension to the Star Wars saga, offering an intriguing blend of familiar and new elements to both long-time Star Wars fans and newcomers alike. This collaborative effort from Marvel and Disney is a testament to the enduring appeal and evolving nature of the Star Wars universe.
