Having a companion by your side when on missions can greatly enhance the overall experience and make playing Star Wars: The Old Republic even more exciting. They can be very useful when it comes to gameplay by getting you out of some tough situations and they help to keep things interesting.
However, it can be very difficult trying to decide which companion to take along on each mission, especially if you are not used to having a helper. Choosing the right one can greatly enhance gameplay but choosing the wrong one can make things more difficult than it should be.
In order to get the most from your companions, here are a few things you should know.
One of the biggest mistakes new players make is not updating their companions gear. You always want your companions to be as up-to-date with their gear as your character is. While you can acquire gear from your missions, that is not the only way to get it.
You can usually find good quality gear that you can buy fairly cheap, if you take the time to look for it. Just make sure that the gear matches your companion’s stat requirements and you’re good to go. When you keep your companion’s gear updated, they will serve you better when on missions.
Know Your Characters
Before you can choose the best companion for a mission, you need to know your characters. Take some time to learn what each companion is capable of doing. In other words, what are their strengths and weaknesses? The more you know about each one, the easier it will be to choose the best one for each mission. Understanding Your Companions Abilities
Before you go on a mission, check the action bar for any new ability your companion may have acquired that is unchecked. You also want to determine which ability you want your companion to use when in battle and make sure you enable it. You can also disable any abilities you don’t want them to use. Doing this will increase your chances of winning a fight.
Companions can fill two roles just like the regular classes. If you activate the toggle abilities in the action bar, it will increase the companion’s ability in one of the roles. For example, it can be set to do more damage, which can come in very useful in a tough battle.
Evaluate the Mission
Before choosing a companion, evaluate the mission and determine how difficult you expect it to be. This will help you choose the best companion because it will give you a good idea of what to expect when in battle, so you can plan your strategy.
