Not all MMO’s are made the same, as we all definitely know. However, most of the time we really get into the housing that goes along with them, all of the upgrades and house drops that you redeem after a battle drive us to want to keep our pad looking cool. However, Star Wars: The Old Republic seems to be hard to get into as far as housing goes for some fans. Here is a list of the reasons why.
- There is no convenient “go to my house” button the screen.
Now this is all about laziness but many gamers want convenience when it comes to games, so why the heck could they not make it more efficient? Players have to open up a menu and then click another button in order to teleport to their house. In LOTRO, RIFT, and WildStar, the house warp button is always on the screen. How come SWTOR doesn’t have the same ability?
- The hook system could be better.
It’s a wonderful thing that SWTOR added housing and its hook-type housing is much better than what LORTO has. There is more room to position stuff, that’s for sure. However, it’s still a hook system that has more limitations than an “anything goes” system that many have enjoyed in Wildstar, Rift, and EQ2. Also, having hook squares that only allows certain types of decorations to be placed annoys players. After all, it is the player’s house and they should be allowed to place anything anywhere they want to.
- No housing drops happen while questing.
Where in the world does everyone get their SWTOR housing stuff? It is definitely not from questing and killing mobs because I have only seen a few housing drops since that expansion came out. You would think that the housing stuff would be perfect quest rewards, but we never see them.
Instead, I am assuming that many purchase their items from the vendor, the cash shop, or the GTN. That’s a practical way of doing it but it does take away from the fun of the game when it randomly drops awesome housing items after questing and battling.
- I am still thinking of my ship as my home.
We understand why BioWare could not allow us to customize the interiors of our ship because of cutscences. For many fans of the game we think of our ship as our home. There is a convenient teleport ability to get there. Many use the ship all the time and enjoy its practical services, like accessing cargo space. It’s the perfect place where I want to decorate with all of my trophies and gadgets.
- One more pet peeve
The interface to select housing items is really hard to work with. You can only look at a few items per page and have to go through filters and other bull. Many just want one long list of what is at our disposal with an easy-to-read format.
