Star Wars: Battlefront to Become Massive eSports Title?

With the first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive challenging League of Legends as the most watched competitive eSport title, there appears to be huge scope to develop Star Wars: Battlefront to be a massive eSport box office draw. There are a diverse group of games that have made the transition to becoming super successful eSports games, but generally, there are a few criteria that although not guaranteeing success, certainly make it more feasible. Here’s our breakdown of why Battlefront is (or should be) destined to become an eSports hit. Community The first thing you need is a strong community and no one will doubt that Star Wars has a massive community of fans. The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has ensured that a new generation of fans have been added and the community has increased dramatically. Although not every fan is a gamer,…

The Story Behind the Doomed Battlefront 3

Sadly, there was a battlefront game that was never meant to be: Battlefront 3. Star Wars Battlefront is an action shooter video game developed by EA DICE, with additional work from Criterion Games, and published by Electronic Arts. Battlefront 3 was the game that we never got. Details and salvaged footage from Free Radical’s Star Wars Battlefront 3 can now be found online. The same game was once in alpha at TimeSplitters development studio, but cancelled. Eventually DICE picked it up and rebooted it, but without any of the original ideas. A Battlefront 3 campaign was going to see twin clones on a mission to boost the Galactic Republic. So fans of Star Wars: Battlefront I and Star Wars: Battlefront II were looking for their Star Wars: Battlefront III and got Star Wars Battlefront instead. A lot of people were disappointed in EA’s Star Wars Battlefront for various reasons. Many will agree…

Check it out: Hey folks, As we mentioned on the last Producer Live Stream, we are going to be putting Game Update 5.2 on PTS. Here are the requirements: Being on the closed test server means signing an NDA. You must be willing to sign and abide by that agreement. You must be 18 years or older to be eligible. You must have an active subscription (to access the test server). You must be willing to play and provide feedback. You must be able…

These changes will be starting in the next few weeks and will go through to Game Update 5.2. They are intended to address the following: Greatly increase the rate at which you earn Command Crates. Our goal is that you earn one Crate every 30 minutes, or less (on average). Looking at improvements we can make to Unassembled Components and…

Star Wars Games Bootlegs and Hacks

We’ve seen many Star Wars games: some good, some bad, some never released, but how about the hacks? YouTuber SpaceHamster gives us the rundown of some comically bad hacks bearing the Star Wars name. Some of these hacks are low effort ventures: Escape from Hoth inserts a tiny, pixelated Millennium Falcon into the Atari game Asteroids, for instance. There’s also a hack that inserts the name of iconic Star Wars characters into the NES game Baseball Stars but is otherwise identical to the original game. Other hacks are hilarious for the scenarios they generate. A fine example is a Battle City hack that puts Luke in the Death Star with an assault rifle. Another is the Yoda Bros., a minimalist, one-level hack of Super Mario Bros. Some hacks don’t even pretend to make much sense. Star Wars: Jedy (yes, that’s how it’s actually spelled) hacks the Sega Genesis game Wolfchild…

Top 5 Female SITH from Star Wars

While many people know the male Sith lords, fewer people know about the great females of the Sith. This was an equal opportunity universe and there were just as many female powerful Sith as there were male. In fact, some of the females rose to power, overtaking their own masters, or leading independently in their own right. Here’s a great video I happened upon that lists some of the top five female Sith from Star Wars. One reason I love this video so much is that he pretty much picked my picks. If I had to create a top list, it would include the same ladies. In fact, I would have picked the very same one for 1st place. Darth Cagnes: The Strategic Mastermind Background and Rise to Power Darth Cagnes is a lesser-known yet incredibly influential Sith Lord. Her strategic mind and mastery of the dark side allowed her…

SWTOR Bolster Changes in Game Update 5.1

Eric Musco took on the official forums to clarify the intentions regarding the bolster changes that came with patch 5.1 Bolster Changes in Game Update 5.1 | 01.25.2017, 11:30 PM Hey folks, For those unaware, in Game Update 5.1 we made the following change: Bolster now improves players up to 232 Item Rating (down from 250). This change raised quite a few questions from the PvP community as to why we made the change. I spoke with the team about it and I want to start by confirming that this change is intended, let’s talk about why! When we released Game Update 5.0, Bolster was incorrectly set to Item Rating 250. The goal of Bolster is that it gives a player a minimum bar of power. That is so that they can enter PvP and not be too far behind someone who is at maximum gear, but it allows them…
