SWTOR Segment from EA GamesCom Press Conference

We have an interesting update today on SWTOR from EA’s GamesCom Press Conference. The SWTOR segment touched on a few things we have not gotten updated on in some time, such as the player count. They also touch on some things that are coming soon in SWTOR (things we all known about already but that might serve to bring in some newer or returning players). From EA’s GamesCom Press Conference: The results have been remarkable. Every month, more than a million players are logging in, playing with their friends, and embarking on their own personal Star Warstm Saga. So basically, EA took almost two minutes out of their press conference today to mention SWTOR. You can see the video for yourself at IGN, but the highlights are: recap of the last 18 months reminder that it’s gone free to play updated content Galactic Starfighter new guild rewards new PvP warzones new Flashpoints and…

Will Star Wars: Battlefront Be the Best Star Wars Game Ever?

There’s a lot of talk about Star Wars: Battlefront as the game gets closer to completion. Fans are anxious for another Star Wars game and at this point, just publishing and shipping a game with a Star Wars theme would be better than how other expected Star Wars titles have worked out recently. DICE wants to do more than just make a game, however. They want to create the “best Star Wars game ever. That’s a big undertaking, depending on who you ask. However, developer DICE has a strong vision for Battlefront and they spoke with MCV about what they wanted to do with the game. “Historically DICE hasn’t worked on licenses that are not our own,” according to Battlefield studio’s general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson. “So this is different for us. If someone came to us with another licence then we’d probably say no, but, in this case, Star Wars has a…

When Game Bugs become Permanent Features

It’s happened before… a bug exists in a game and people like it so much, it becomes an intended feature. Such is not always the case with SWTOR. Remember way back when you could message someone on their main and when they logged an alt, continued messages would go to their alts? A lot of people loved the feature but others worried it never allowed you to “hide” when playing the game. Bioware later removed it, stating it was a bug but many players wished they would bring it back with a toggle feature so if you didn’t want it, it wasn’t forced on you but those who liked it could use it. Another bug discovered just a couple weeks ago that was popular was the character select screen bug. In this bug, it allowed a different view from the character select screen- one that showed the character from about…

50 Million Credits for Guild Ships

If you want a guild ship, you better be ready to open up your pockets. SWTOR will charge 50 million credits for guild ships. Eric Musco, Community Manager for Bioware, announced recently on the livestream that this is how much it will cost for guild ships in the Galactic Strongholds expansion. It’s not surprising that it will cost credits. I think all players were pretty much expecting that. The real question lies in how much and whether or not it would be “too much” for your average guild. While moderate to large size guilds will probably not have any trouble with the 50 million credits, it could pose a problem with smaller guilds. I always played MMORPGs with a partner and we would often name our guilds “Just the Two of Us”. In some games like WoW and EverQuest we would even have to get other people to sign our…

SWTOR Meets Power Rangers

We like to talk about gear around here. In MMORPGs, gear is often a big part of the experience and we all know how some games (SWTOR not excluded) have really goofed with some of their gear and item sets. Sometimes we think we’re getting something awesome and it ends up looking so ridiculous, you laugh at your own character while playing. But speaking of SWTOR gear, it seems many have noticed how closely a certain gear set resembles Power Rangers. If someone’s shouting “Might Morphin’ Power Rangers!” at you wearing this, then this could be why. Here we have a black Power Ranger: And of course, the White Ranger: Someone even put together a full album of all the different colors. Check it out! It’s actually pretty funny when you think about it, especially seeing all those dyed colors. Do you have any gear sets that remind you of…

GSH Master Artisan Guide Compendium

If you’d like to know more about SWTOR crafting, we have a fantastic guide for you. From Lowku, we have a 3-part guide on 2.9 Galactic Strongholds crafting, as well as some basics in crafting in general. As we have mentioned here, 2.9 is bringing a lot of (hopefully good) changes to crafting. Some items that were once considered useful junk will now be highly sought after. Gathering lists, items and other crafting supplies now might be a good idea if you plan to do any 2.9 crafting. He tells us a little of what you can expect in these guides: “To help myself prepare, I’ve compiled my old gathering list, my credit guide, and all the new crafting information for the Fabrication Kits traded for decorations and War Supplies. What’s left is an absolutely massive amount of information that I had to break up into different parts just to get it…

How I Play My Deception Assassin – PvE [Pretty Little Sith]

If you’re not familiar with Pretty Little Sith, she’s a fellow fellow gamer who happens to play Deception Assassin exclusively. Her blog, Pretty Little Sith, is all about her and the things she enjoys in life-  food, fashion, fitness, video games, music, movies, science, travel… It may sound random but really it’s all about her and what makes her tick, which I think is pretty cool. The name is So with all that said, she has a recent post where she discusses how she plays Deception Assasin and breaks it down into specs, tactics and more. Here’s a snippet: For me, the keys to success with this class are Force management and knowing what abilities are highest priority so that I can hit them as fast as possible. There is no real “rotation” in that you use a bunch of abilities in a certain order and repeat. I watch for procs, and…

“World First Kill” of Rakghoul Event World Boss on Tattoine

It has happened- the first world kill of the Rakghoul Event. So we know “first kill” claim on a world boss is pretty funny but it’s still an interesting story. They said they were not looking for the boss, but happened upon it while out and about doing something else. The world boss on Tattoine was taken down by a four man group, according to basedlando, who had this to say: “The boss was cool, it’s name is Plaguehorn, we four manned it with people in Dread Master Gear, 1 Assassin Tank, 1 Operative Healer, 2 Annihilation Marauders. A random Hazmat piece drops, as well as a really cool pet, called Plaguehorn Reek. It’s adorable, and requires friend rep level with THORN. We’ve killed it twice, both times the pet drops. We will be killing it more times, just to make sure the pet is guaranteed, or to see if…

UCF Jedi Knight vs Westboro Baptist Church

Here is a true Jedi doing good in the world. If you’re not familiar with this man in robes, he is known as the “UCF Jedi” and he made national news when he combated the Westboro Baptist Church at their demonstration at the University of Central Florida. The story says he dresses up as a Jedi and speaks out against hate and intolerance using the wise words of the Jedi Order.  Here is a video of him doing just that against the protesters from Westboro but this wasn’t the only time he had done so. We already give him cool points for dressing up like a Jedi but doing so to spread messages of kindness and peace makes him all the more awesome. *Regardless of where you stand on moral and religious issues, WBC have a reputation of spreading hate and intolerance, picketing funerals of children and preaching their extreme ideologies at…

Reverse Engineering with 20% Chance of Success

Here we have an interesting chart that attempts to explain the 20% chance of success from reverse engineering, something that many players seem to have a hard time understanding. The chance of success is per each RE. It technically does not change or grow with how many times you attempt. Some people think that a 20% chance of success means that by the time they do 5 REs, they should have a success. That’s not exactly how it works. What it actually means is that there is a 33% chance you’d get 5 consecutive failures and aa 21% chance you’d get 7 consecutive failures. Your chances for success do not increase with each time you RE, which most players agree is bogus. It even makes logical sense that you were learn from your mistakes and your chances would increase. But nope… RNG is either on your side, or you better start…

SWTOR Easter Egg? The secret of kolto

Star Wars Battlefront Not to Tie in to Episode VII

Since the announcement of the next Star Wars Battlefront game, many have been wondering if it will tie in to Episode VII and in what ways. We now have a new report Star Wars Underworld has this to say: Executive Vice President of EA Studios Patrick Soderlund recently spoke about how the game may or may not be connected the the upcoming film: “We’ve shown parts of the game to date. You know what were building is more rooted in the traditional Star Wars universe, not so much linked to the movie being made.” He continues, “We wanted to make a game that celebrates the history of Star Wars. We don’t have a particular tie to the movie, but obviously we would prefer to launch Battlefront sometime close to when the movie launches,” This is not a definite shut down of the idea but it looks like we won’t be seeing any maps, characters…

Timothy Zahn AMA has some interesting points on Canon and Lore

Reddit is known for its AMAs (ask me anything). These sessions can be fun and interesting, all depending on who is getting asked the questions. There was an interesting one recently with Timothy Zahn, Star Wars novelist and author of Blackcollar. While this AMA didn’t specifically address SWTOR, there were some very interesting points brought up, especially about story and lore and if you have not seen it yet, we suggest you head over and give it a read. Here are some snippets: Hey Mr. Zahn! HUGE fan of your work. A lot of my love for Star Wars stems from your work. But I have to ask, how do you feel about Lucasfilm declaring most expanded universe works (i.e. your works) as “non-canon”? I wasn’t going to address this topic. But since so many of you have asked: What the “non-canon” announcement by LFL means is that they aren’t…

Can SWTOR Help You Land a Job?

Here’s an interesting topic to ponder. It’s one that I was discussing with some fellow gamer friends just a week or so ago. We were talking about how we are leadership members within our gaming community and how this experience translates to the “real world” and also how our real life experience helps us be better leaders in the games we play. It’s so common in gamers today but it’s not always a topic we hear people talk about. So leads us to another question: Can SWTOR help you land a job? We’ve heard of people putting World of Warcraft on their resumes. We’re not certain how that worked out for them but with how mainstream WoW has become, it’s not a surprise if it helped a bit if they were able to put the game-work connection in it. So why can’t SWTOR experience be the same? We believe it…
