4 Star Wars Tabletop Role-Playing Games You Should Try

If you like The Old Republic or Knights of the Old Republic, it’s probably because you enjoy getting immersed in the Star Wars universe in a way that other games like Battlefront and Bounty Hunter just don’t give you. If you want to really dive into the universe, though, tabletop role-playing games are the way to go. Not familiar with tabletop RPGs? If you’ve heard of Dungeons & Dragons, Fate, or Pathfinder, you’ve heard of tabletop RPGs—these are some of the biggest names in the business. They combine social interaction, storytelling, dice rolling, miniatures, and an immersive experience that’s tough to replicate. In addition to those big names, there are a number of cool Star Wars RPGs out there. Here are four that you should check out! Star Wars: Edge of the Empire One of my favorite game companies, Fantasy Flight Games, publishes Edge of the Empire, a game that immerses you in the world of smugglers, bounty hunters, thieves, and…

Star Wars Fan Film: REBEL SCUM

As of right now, we are still around 12 months away from the next Star Wars film, and the spinoff installment Rogue One, brings fans back to the days of the original trilogy. If you have been craving some 80’s style nostalgia, you should definitely check out this awesome Star Wars fan film from the independent studio Blood Brother Cinema Co. This nine minute short film, which has a title of Rebel Scum, shows fans a meeting between one downed Rebel pilot and also an injured member that is part of the Galactic Empire after they happen to cross paths on nearly everyone’s favorite icy war zone. It has some pretty impressive costume work and a subzero snow-covered environment that was captured on film from an airfield in Alberta, Canada. This short film also has some amazing visual effects that doesn’t use CGI, which includes a stop-motion AT-AT walker that…

Did You Know Gaming Takes a Look at Cancelled Star Wars Games

If you’re a regular reader, you know that we’ve written about cancelled and unreleased Star Wars games quite a bit here. We love Star Wars gaming and do our best to follow the games from idea, to production, to creation, and release, just like we did with SWTOR. With that in mind, we’ve seen many potentially great games just not make it to one stage in the process. Some were put on hold, others cancelled for good. It always hurts a bit to see a potentially great Star Wars game get the axe. Did You Know Gaming has a recent episode on Star Wars games that was released just before Christmas. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s well worth the less-than 10 minutes it will take to give it a watch because they have some things to say about these cancelled Star Wars Games, as well as facts on…

Hammerhead-class cruiser from KotOR/SWTOR canonized in Star Wars Rebels

Here you can see some great pics from Star Wars Rebels. Transport ships based on Hammerhead capital ships from Knights of the Old Republic and Thranta Class Frigates from Star Wars the Old Republic, as you can see below. While it looks like the design is reused, it’s not all exactly the same. One might presume that over 3,000 years the design is obsolete as a military ship and now makes better use as transport. That would make sense, as so much can change in that time period but for many fans, it’s nice to see the familiar design of the ships from SWTOR and KOTOR. The tech in SWTOR/KOTOR was always more advanced than modern day Star Wars also, at least when it comes to fleets. If you look closely, you’ll see they are just inspired by the Hammerheads of KOTOR and SWTOR era. They’re not exactly the same thing….

15 Huge questions we need answered after Star Wars: Force Awakens

We all know that Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is the largest movie of the year, and if we go by pre-ticket sales it could also be the most anticipated movie of all-time. It’s so special and important to Star Wars fans not only because it’s a new chapter for the original saga, but it’s also picking up the story from three decades ago, and that’s a very long time to wait. The best news of all, it’s been a huge success! This article will not be talking about the milestones for the box office that it’s reached or any of its criticisms or merchandising records. If you have already seen the movie, you know that it raises a ton of questions to be answered and the ending is one of the most grueling parts of all. We want to warn you that if you have not…

Star Wars: Uprising: Sector Battle Crew Opportunities vs. Battle Opportunities: A Guide

Lots of people ask about the differences between using crew to accumulate victory points and doing the missions yourself to accumulate them. User Xaereth_Tri has taken the time to create a guide for the Reddit Star Wars: Uprising subreddit to help with this. The guide contains: Battle Plans: This is the currency used during sector battles to “purchase” opportunities (both crew and battle – see below). Crew Opportunity: This term refers to the expenditure of battle plans on crew missions to accumulate victory points. Battle Opportunity: This term refers to the expenditure of battle plans to “purchase” a mission that your character runs in exchange for victory points. Victory Points: These are the points that you earn throughout the sector battle, which are used at the end of the battle to determine your final placement, and corresponding rank. The guide then goes on to explain Sector Battle Goals, gaining victory points, battle…

Star Wars Video Games are Rocking the Charts

Star Wars: Battlefront has sold over 12 million units and with the hit movie, The Force Awakens still killing it in the box office, it’s probably going to make the sales of Star Wars video games only go up even more. While Star Wars: Battlefront has gotten some less-than-stellar reviews, that hasn’t stopped tons of people from buying it and wanting to try it for themselves. Since its release in November, it’s sold around 12-13 million units, and with its price tag of $55 on average, that means around $660 million in revenue. According to Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter, Electronic Arts EA -0.64% sold approximately 6 million Star Wars Battlefront games in November and an additional 6 million in December. Battlefront doesn’t directly tie into the movie The Force Awakens as far as timeline and content goes but the sheer popularity of the movie could definitely create more people who are interested in playing…

Bioware respond on GTN Search Issues in SWTOR

Eric Musco replyed to a player  seeking your help for the current GTN search bug. BIOWARE when are you going to fix the GTN. This is horrible behavior for a company | 01.11.2016, 08:23 PM Hey folks, I have some information regarding the current issues with search on the GTN that I wanted to share. First off, the GTN issues will not be fixed with tomorrow’s patch, 4.0.4. Now with that being said, we do think that we have started to isolate what is causing search to not work for some items. I am going to post all of those details tomorrow, and we are also going to ask for your help in gathering information. I am sure you will ask, why wait until tomorrow? Well, we believe the issue is related to whenever a server comes online. Since we have a maintenance occurring tomorrow, it is possible, even likely,…

30 Years of Hoth in Battle

For as long as I’ve been alive, developers have been trying to get the planet of Hoth right in video games. Here, Kotaku takes a look at Hoth in Video Games: A 30 Year Battle and explores games that got it right and those that got it not quite right, and everything in between. It all began in 1982 (the year I was born) with Atari’s “The Empire Strikes Back”“. For the time and the Atari 2600, this was a fine looking game. There was then a 1983 arcade version and in 1985, a follow-up to that arcade version, also for the Atari. 10 years after the original, Nintendo gave us a game featuring Hoth for the NES. “The Empire Strikes Back” again made a presence in the video game console world. Hoth was looking pretty good by this version. I recall playing this one at a friend’s house but…

Star Wars: Battlefront Has Basically the Same Staff of Developers

A lot of fans have questions about the development team behind Star Wars: Battlefront. A common complaint is that they just don’t seem to be communicating well with the fans/players in regard to the game, status of changes, and other important details. When it comes to communities like this, communication is very important, as we learned with SWTOR. When they had community managers in place to help facilitate questions and concerns, as well as announcements between the developers and the players. It’s an important job. Star Wars: Battlefront seems to be lacking in the official community manager department and it’s affecting how some players see the game, as well as their opinion of the professionalism of DICE and EA. Some think it gives the impression the developers don’t care and it’s left others wondering if DICE was even still on the project. This tweet from DICE’s Dennis Brannvall confirms: @LukeMoonkiller…

How to Look like Poe Dameron in SWTOR

In another great installment of “how to look like ___” from SWTORista, we have how to look like Poe Dameron. We love these guides she has created that detail exactly how to create a SWTOR character that looks like character’s from the new Star Wars film, “The Force Awakens”“. Here, she tells us how to recreate Poe, the famous pilot. A snippet on getting his outfit just right: Poe’s outfit in the movie is the standard Republic starfighter suit – it’s the same as the ones in the old movies. In SWTOR, there is a few types of pilot suits available, but there is only one close to the one Poe wears in the movie. You could also try dying this uniform with an orange dye! She also tells you how to get the build, hair and face right. You can try different combos to see what comes out best…

Petition to Bring George Lucas Back to Star Wars

He sold out. He said he won’t do anymore films. He had some choice words for Disney when he said he’d sold his children to “white slavers” but then backpedaled and later said he was happy with the fine job Disney was doing with the films. Whatever your personal thoughts about Lucas and his role with the franchise to date, there are some who want to see him return to directing the films. In fact, there are some who wish to see this so badly, they’re petitioning Kathleen Kennedy and Disney via Change.org to bring him back. As the petition reads: Bring back George Lucas for the Star Wars movies. Put the father of the franchise as director of Episode IX . We really want this, please . We have no problem with Colin Trevorrow , but he’s not the right guy to direct Star Wars Episode IX . George Lucas…

Bioware adresses Romance and Courting Gift Bugs in SWTOR

The SWTOR Developers over at BioWare have finally shed some light on the companion romance and courting gift bugs that’s currently in the game. Dear TaitWatson: The Companion Romance System NEEDS to be fixed. | 01.07.2016, 07:41 PM Hey everyone, We have seen quite a few reports about the Romance system being broken, and I wanted to clarify a few things. A number of the issues being reported are not, in fact, bugged. The big one is Iresso. While Iresso is not alone in not acknowledging your romance, he has become the name surrounding the whole situation. In this case, there is a bug – the romance variables for some of the pre-KOTFE companions are being improperly assessed, leading to the appearance that they aren’t romanced even if they are. This fix is scheduled for 4.1 but is not finalized yet. What should have occurred is that when you completed…

Aimbotters a Serious Problem in Star Wars: Battlefront

The PC market for Star Wars: Battlefront is seeing a serious problem with cheating. I recall when the same thing was happening on a massive scale with Counter-Strike and later, CS:GO. While cheating and hacking is still a problem, at least Valve has some safeguards in place to try to combat it and most private servers also have their own protocol for spotting, kicking and banning hackers. View post on imgur.com While the poster of this image is saying they need to fix it or send all PC players a refund (something that sounds a bit unreasonable), he does have a point about the aimbotters being a serious problem. In Star Wars Battlefront, there seems to already be a small PC playerbase, making it more difficult to leave a game with a cheater and just find another lobby. Add to it the fact that it seems the cheaters are multiplying…

The Coolest PC Case Ever

I have always loved custom computer builds and I’ve seen a few over the years with Star Wars themes. This one, however, tops them all. Carrie Fisher Tells Her Haters to Shove It

My body is my brain bag, it hauls me around to those places & in front of faces where theres something to say or see pic.twitter.com/T2TXiEyl17 — Carrie Fisher (@carrieffisher) December 29, 2015 As more and more people see the new Star Wars film, one actor in particular is getting more criticism than any other. It seems to have come as a surprise to some people that Carrie Fisher has aged. *sarcastic gasp* Can you believe that? How dare she get older like every other human in history? The biggest critique seems to be not just that Fisher has aged, but that she has not “aged well”. What that means exactly is anyone’s guess. Few similar comments have been made about her returning co–stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill. Some might say this is a sexist double standard. It seems men are allowed to age in this society but women…
