The book also explores the theme of soldiering in the Star Wars universe, giving readers a deeper understanding of the conflict that the game is centered around. The book is not just a straightforward action-adventure novel; it is a deeply philosophical work that explores the nature of war, the cost of freedom, and the morality of rebellion. Freed weaves complex themes and ideas into his storytelling, creating a book that is both entertaining and thought-provoking. Freed’s work on Star Wars: The Old Republic is also evident in the book. January SWTOR Story Livestream Notes

BioWare posted a video yesterday featuring Charles Boyd and Alexander Freed. The video go over the story in Knight of the fallen empire, and upcoming content we can expect with chapter 10. KoTFE Recap Storytelling in games has the unique of challenging of having players able to see and know the villain without placing players in the same room as them as they would be dispatched quickly by the player. You need to get the villains upclose to the players to be a significant presence in their life. It would be hard to imagine Star Wars Ep4 told from only Luke’s perspective. Vader would just be a random Tie Fighter pilot. Vaylin is an unpredictable villain. She is difficult to pin down, you never know what she is going to do next. You got lots of serious figures like Arcann being very stoic. So seeing her and Arcann act entirely different…

Alexander Freed confirmed as writer for Comming ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Tie-in Book

We all know by now that Star Wars: Battlefront will not have space battles, more than five planets, a single-player campaign, or even setting from the prequel trilogy, but it does have something that no other games in the series has: a tie-in novel. After Disney took over Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise, they decided to remove the “Expanded Universe.” This includes every novel, comic book, TV show, and other non-film Star Wars material that was made over the years. This media will be published still, but it shows up as part of the “Legends” line. Lucasfilm is started from scratch and building up the Star Wars franchise with a fresh start. As of now, the new Star Wars canon includes a few comic books by Marvel and a line of books from Del Ray books. Two books have been published and half a dozen are still waiting to…

Alexander Freed Leaves BioWare

And now another BioWare staff member bites the dust… Alexander Freed (my favorite BioWare writer) as officially announced on his Twitter (yes, he’s on Twitter now) feed that he is leaving BioWare and joining me in the ranks of freelance writers. It’s kind of a bittersweet announcement, really. While I love freelancing and I encourage other writers to do the same and explore the freedom of being able to work on different projects at once, try new things and do what you want, instead of what you are contracted to do. So as a friend, I’m really happy for Alex. He’s incredibly talented and I believe he’s going to love the opportunities that come his way now that he is not on BioWare’s payroll anymore. Big news! As of today, I’m departing BioWare to go freelance. It’s been a wonderful six years, but time to move on. More next tweet….

SWTOR Race Issues Explained

Many SWTOR gamers have questions about the race choices in the game and why we can only play certain races. One of the biggest questions “Why can’t I play a Wookie?” Well, good for us, VideoGamer.com has a telling interview with BioWare writer Alexander Freed (a personal fave of mine since I had the chance to meet him this summer). In this interview, Freed tells us a little more about the races in SWTOR and why many of them are so human-looking. Basically, it all comes down to relatability. Freed says: “You know, the reason for our humanoid range of species, it’s a matter of relatability to a large degree. The further you get from human the more difficult it is for players to get into their mindset, the more difficult it is for all the other characters in the game to relate to them the same way. There are…

Friday update – Choose Your Side: Imperial Agent vs. Jedi Consular

This Friday’s Update brings us a new Choose Your Side video featuring the Consular vs. the Agent, and a Pre-Order Announcement for Razer’s Old Republic Peripherals. The Agent vs. Consular video contains footage of the many abilities available to each class, along with testimonials from members of the Bioware team like Alexander Freed, and Jo Berry stating their cases on who’d win. Lisa already covered the Razer story yesterday, so I won’t get any more into that one, but enjoy the movie below: From the moment we announced the eight classes in Star Wars™: The Old Republic™, fans have been pitting them against each other, arguing who would have the advantage in a one-on-one fight. The hallways of BioWare echo this debate, with the writers, combat designers and other developers all chiming in on which class they feel reigns supreme. In the latest entry of our series “Choose Your Side,”…

Video: Chimaera Chats With BioWare’s Alexander Freed

Guild Chimaera has interviewed BioWare’s Alexander Freed, a Senior Writer on Star Wars: The Old Republic and were kind enough to post it and share with all of us SWTOR fans. The interview took place in France during Paris Games Week and focuses a lot on story and lore (as to be expected). This was an especially fun video for me since I had the opportunity to meet Alexander Freed here in Austin and get a signed copy of the first episode of The Lost Suns comic. He’s a great guy, a fantastic writer and all-around fun to get to chat with. The chat is in English with French subtitles. If you don’t read French, you have to guess a bit about the actually questions asked but you get the gist of it based on Alexander’s answers. It’s well worth your time to check out the video.

If you’re following the SWTOR: The Lost Suns comic series, you’ll be excited to hear that Newsarama has a full, 6 page preview of the comic so you can check it out for yourself. I have been hooked on the series since I got the first issue, hand-signed, in person from Alexander Freed himself. The series is written by BioWare Senior Writer Alexander Freed and it follows the story of Theron Shan, son of Jedi Master Satele Shan. It follows Shan’s quest to stop the war from restarting and the series gives us a good back story to the game, SWTOR and an idea of the type of storytelling we can expect from BioWare in SWTOR. Even if you have yet to read the first two issues of the Lost Suns, then you…

The jedi depicted in the Hope trailer finally confirmed as Satele Shan.

Many people have speculated about who the girl fighting Darh Malgus in last years hope trailer is. Yesterday Alexander Freed from BioWare confirmed that the girl was no other then Satele Shan: There’s been a lot of (understandable) confusion about Satele Shan, so I figured I’d clarify a few points: First, yes–Satele Shan is the Jedi depicted in the Hope trailer. When Satele originally appeared in the Threat of Peace comics, her appearance wasn’t yet final in-game. Ultimately, we’ve gone in a different visual direction for the character, and you’ll be seeing more consistent portrayals in the future. (One of the perils of releasing information–even seemingly innocuous information–so early!) Second, regarding Satele’s age and experience–at the Battle of Alderaan, Satele is a fully trained Jedi Knight. By the time Threat of Peace rolls around, she’s had significant real-world experience and trained under several Jedi Masters, Dar’Nala included; she’s a candidate…
