Star Wars – Battle of Sullust – Fan-Film

Ah, fan films… one thing that brings the Star Wars community leap years ahead of other fanatics. We love our Star Wars stories, games, and lore. And it shows in the sheer amount of fan films that are out there, along with the production quality and the time that gets put into making them. In Battle of Sullust, we get to experience an awesome fan film with great CGI, music, story and backdrops. It definitely feels like a fan film, but this isn’t a bad thing, since if you’ve been a regular here, you know I love them. This story takes place moments before the events in Star Wars The Clone Wars: Nightsisters. Anakin Skywalker joins in the battle for Sullust against the Separatists, offering help to the soldiers of the 144th Legion after they were stranded on the battlefield after the death of their general. This battle is important…

Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes Could Return if New Copyright Law Passes

I have so many fond memories of Star Wars Galaxies and City of Heroes. I know many of you who read our site played SWG as well. I’m not sure if any of you played City of Heroes/ City of Villains but I was also a big fan of those. We have long lamented the fact that SWG is gone forever, but new changes to copyright law could mean its return, along with other abandoned online games. The U.S. Copyright Office is considering a rule change that would loosen the restrictions governing emulations and reproductions of abandoned online games. We already know we have SWGEmu, but also that the creators of it have had to fight along the way, and worry that they might be shut down. This new copyright law would change that. Since the law was meant to protect the theft of intellectual property, the argument is made that once…

New Star Wars Trilogy Could Be On the Way

It has been over a year since we found out a new Star Wars series was coming from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. Now we have news that leads us to believe it can be a trilogy. This comes from HBO network president Casey Bloys. If you’re wondering what comes next after Star Wars 9, this could be it! It’s also an opportunity for us to see something a bit different from the current trilogy timeline. We can see other parts of the Star Wars universe and this is fun and exciting for fans. So, there’s two new Star Wars trilogies on the way – and they’ll both look to cover new corners of the universe post-Star Wars 9. The original StarWars.com announcement outlined that “These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson.” Are you…

Check it out: To make the wait for Anakin Skywalker* a tiny bit more bearable (players will get their hands on the hero of the Galactic Republic on February 27**), Mattias Kirsten, Animator on Star Wars™Battlefront™ II, was kind enough to give us a peek on how the animations of the powerhouse Jedi were made. And later, if you want to learn even more, make sure to digest our rundown on how a hero is created and the interview with Matt Lanter, voicing Anakin Skywalker. Now, taking point on the animation work on the Chosen One is a task which, of course, requires a certain type of preparation. Researching The Chosen One “First, I re-watched The Clone Wars series and the prequels to get in the right state of mind and mood for Anakin,” Mattias says….

In Memorium: Star Wars Galaxies

Who remembers Star Wars Galaxies? We have talked about this game at length here on the site and it has a bit of a bittersweet tale as it was the most popular Star Wars game at the time that we started this site, in anticipation of Star Wars The Old Republic getting released. Many predicted SWG getting shut down with the new Star Wars MMO coming out, but we still hoped it wouldn’t be the case. Isn’t our world big enough for both? Alas, the doors closed on SWG and it is now only available from the SWGEmu, which we gave also written about extensively here, but if you’re looking to revisit SWG, you may like this post from ReforgedGaming.org. Replaying the Classics: Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D

I do love going back in time and replaying some of my favorite games, especially when they are Star Wars games! Following this series on StarWars.com has me wanting to play all of the old golden hits all over again. In Replaying the Classics, StarWars.com revisits Star Wars games of yesteryear, examining why we loved them then and why they stand the test of time. This article covers the playing of Rogue Squadron, which was honestly one of my favorites back in the day, so I was very excited to see it being revisited. It was inspired by the Rogue Squadron comic books of the mid-90s (which I fondly remember from my youth) and was an aerial shooter style game. It was created for the N64 with the single-thumbstick gamepad when it first released but you can play it on your PC now with your favorite controller or joystick and it still…

Star Wars: Battlefront 2: Progress Update on New Mode + Emote Wheel

The Star Wars: Battelfront 2 team over at DICE posted a new Community Transmission: To start things off, we wanted to talk a little about the upcoming, non-linear game mode since it’s been such a popular topic in the community. Development is progressing well, but we wanted to let you know that we’ve made the very tough decision to move the release of the new game mode into March. At the core of this choice is our desire to keep the quality of this mode high. It’s always disappointing when we have to move things around, not just for you but for ourselves as well. We’re incredibly eager to see the new game mode hit our live servers, but we also want to ensure that when it launches it’s the best state it can be. However, this extra time is also allowing us to create two brand new reinforcements which we want…

Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes: Marquee Merchandising Changes

Over the past 2 years, the devs over at Capital games have released many Marquee Characters without re-evaluating the way shards are acquired via the pack and bundle. As it was discussed in the Road Ahead post a few days back, they have been evaluating the release method of these characters, starting with the Emperor’s Shuttle that launched this week. And now starting with the launch of the Droideka, while they are launching it in the classic Marquee style, the devs are changing the traditional bundle to include crystals and adding a new mega pack that will allow players to increase Droideka’s star rarity with fewer crystals compared to the standard marquee, akin to other mega packs. Below are the changes: Marquee Bundle Bundle price will be changed from $9.99 to $19.99 (USD) All Marquee Bundle items/currencies remain the same 1350 Crystals will be added to the bundle This is…

SWTOR: A Look Behind the Scenes with Ossus

BioWare just posted an interview with Charles Boyd, the Creative Director for Star Wars: The Old Republic, regarding Game update Game Update 5.10 ‘Jedi Under Siege’ witch went live back in december. Check it out: In Game Update 5.10 ‘Jedi Under Siege’ we saw the return of several characters. How did you decide which of these familiar faces players would see? Probably the biggest example here is Darth Malgus; I always felt he was a bit shortchanged in the core game’s storyline, given that he’s easily our most iconic and recognizable Sith character. That said, I didn’t want to bring him back until his return would feel like a natural part of the story. Now that we’ve returned to the core conflict of Republic versus Sith Empire that Malgus himself originally kicked off, it seemed like the right time to bring him back into the fold. Master Gnost-Dural is an interesting…

Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes – Road Ahead 1/31/2019

Here is the road map for Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes. Contrary to BioWare, Capital Games seems to have big plans for their Star Wars game this comming year. Check it out: After an exciting end of the year with the release of Grand Arena, C3PO, and Han’s Millennium Falcon, the Capital Games offices are bustling again with plans for the upcoming quarters. We’ve spent much of the past few months focusing on the roadmap, including a bold and somewhat audacious five-year vision, but as always, I’m here to talk a little bit about the next couple of months. When we sit down to plan the next year’s roadmap, one of the key things that we focus on is learnings from the previous one. Since so much of the core of the game is collecting and strategizing with the iconic characters and ships from the Star Wars universe, we are constantly…

No SWTOR Roadmap for 2019 so far

BioWare is not planing a Roadmap for SWTOR so far. I speculate that it might because BioWare Austine is waiting to see how the upcomming game Anthem does – to see whether they’ll have the staff numbers and resources/funding left to pull most of it off.  Here is the news: Hey folks, Right now I don’t believe there are any plans for a formal roadmap in the coming weeks. To calm any concerns, that isn’t because there isn’t stuff happening this year, but we have been making an effort to give you more visibility into content sooner via PTS. With that in mind, here are some details: 5.10.1 is on PTS now, which you already know. That will come out in the next couple of weeks, more details on timing this week. After 5.10.1 is out the door, look for details on 5.10.2 going to PTS. We are still locking…
