The New Star Wars Canon, Explained

When Disney took over LucasFilm and decided to make another Star Wars movie, all of the Expanded Universe works became “un-canon.” They would no longer be recognized in the official Star Wars universe. OuterPlaces has released an infographic that puts all of the canon works in an easy-to-read image. Check it out here, or view the original on OuterPlaces: With all of the books and comics between the Battle of Endor and The Force Awakens, it looks like we’re going to get a very clear picture of what happened after the destruction of the second Death Star before the new movie comes out. It’s also cool to see the two new Star Wars games coming out this year on the infographic as well, suggesting that we might actually learn more about the universe in those games. If you want to get up-to-speed on the Star Wars universe, you’re going to have a lot of…

Jar Jar Binks Inspired by Goofy, According to George Lucas

Jar Jar Binks just might be one of the most hated Star Wars characters ever. Honestly, I’m not sure why. I really didn’t think he was that bad. Unlike many who seem to have been annoyed greatly by the character, I found him a bit charming. (I know, I know… don’t shoot me.) When George Lucas was making Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999), he famously said, “Jar Jar’s the key to all this, if we get Jar Jar working. ‘Cause he’s a funnier character than we’ve ever had in the movies.” That really didn’t work out so well for him since Binks ended up becoming one of the most hated movie characters ever. That doesn’t seem to sway Lucas very much, as he still loves Jar Jar At the recent Disney D3 Expo, Lucas explained how he feels about Binks, why he loves the character and how he was inspired by…

SWTOR and Windows 10

Most of us know that the new Windows 10 upgrade is now available and many are anxious to see what it’s like and if it has any problems. Recently, Vulkk from Vulkk.com installed Windows 10 and upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro. Here are the steps he took and why. Step 1: The first part of the upgrade is downloading the ISO and upgrade from inside Windows. He chose to keep all of his preferences, settings, and programs he already had installed. Windows registers each PC by their ID when they either purchase a new computer or download a new version of Windows. So, if you change too much hardware the copy of Windows 10 will become obsolete and you will then lost the product key for the same PC and then you will have to install the 7/8 version again and upgrade. After he downloaded the new version, his LAN…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Runtime Revealed by J.J. Abrams

If you’ve been following the updates and news for the new Star Wars film, you might already know that a runtime has been released. During Disney’s D23 Expo, director J.J. Abrams revealed the runtime for Star Wars: The Force Awakens: 2 hours and 4 minutes. That also happens to be the same runtime as the franchise’s most beloved film, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Of course, the movie is still being edited so this runtime could change before the movie is actually set to release in the theater, December 2015. By movie standards, that’s a little long but certainly not unbearably or unusually long. Here’s how the runtime of The Force Awakens compares to the other films: Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace Runtime: 136 min Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones Runtime: 142 min Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith Runtime: 140 min Star…

Tips for Getting the Most from 12x Experience Bonus

The clock is ticking for the new SWTOR expansion and as we get closer to the actual release, gamers are getting ready in a variety of ways. The subscriber perk that gives you 12x XP is also winding down and if you want to get the most of it before it ends on October 19th, here are some tips. Prepare in advance. It sounds like a no-brainer but the more things you can get ready in advance, the faster you will be able to level your characters and take full advantage of this XP boost while it lasts. Get some major/minor xp boosts. Be sure you are getting standard boosts and not the ones designed specifically for FP, exploration, class quests, etc.) You can use these to add even more XP boost. Regular boosts WILL stack with the 12x. Get a stronghold (if you don’t have one already). Legacy storage,…

President of Lucasfilm talks Han Solo Movie

Are you worried about the upcoming Han Solo spinoff that is planned as a standalone film? Many fans are concerned that they will ruin one of the best characters from Star Wars ever. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy talked a great deal about the spinoff (still untitled) and what we can expect. It’s written by Jon and Lawrence Kasdan, directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and scheduled for release May 25, 2018. So we have quite awhile to wait for it but that doesn’t stop people from being interested in it. A big question from the start is in regards to the timeline. How old will Solo be in this film? “He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s,” Kennedy said to the magazine. “We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.” That does make sense and we’ll have to wait awhile to know…

DICE sheds light into EA’s (and BioWare’s) PR and Marketing Practices

EA’s/Dice’s new Star Wars: Battlefront game is currently in a similar situation PR-wise and marketing wise as EA’s/BioWare’s Knights of the Fallen Empire. There isn’t much information about either game from official sources except for a few bits of information here and there. For KOTFE, it’s the story aspect and for Battlefront it’s the authenticity of the graphics. Both of the games are just a few months away from their release. KOTFE is expected at the end of October and Battlefront is expected in the middle of November. After the exciting event of D23, where the only new information about Battlefront was the nine different game modes, DICE said that the following articles explained their marketing principal and explained to the community why there was not much information. This is likely the same for BioWare. Game developers are not typically very secretive when it comes to general game development information…

Star Wars Gambling

Star Wars gambling is not new. It has been a popular pastime in the galaxy for millennia. In fact, some areas of the Old Republic allowed gambling and by the time of the Clone Wars, there was a push from Senator Simon Greyshade to legalize it throughout all of the Republic. Gambling had a big effect on Galactic history, as many will recall. For example, Watto lost his slave Anakin Skywalker over a podracing bet and Lando Calrissian won (and later lost) the Millennium Falcon in games of sabaac. Sabaac is a popular card game often played for high stakes. When played professionally, there would be a dealer to oversee the games. The game of sabacc used a deck of seventy-six cards featuring sixty numbered cards divided into four suits, and two copies of eight special cards. Each player is dealt two cards (sometimes five, depending on the set of rules in…

‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ Was Right To Cut Its Single-Player Campaign

The new and upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront is turning out to be one of the biggest game releases this fall. I am sure that it would have done fine any other year, but since its being released in 2015, it also has all of the hype from Star Wars: The Force Awakens that is releasing in December. However, fans have been upset that no matter how good it looks, Battlefront will not have a single-player campaign. Instead, the entire game will either be a death match multiplayer or co-op in individualized missions. There is no story mode at all. EA’s Peter Moore recently talked about the decision: “You make a decision, years out, and you plan for what the world looks like when a game ships in two or three years. That’s about the intuitiveness about the executive producer, and his or her vision for the game.” “Between when a…

Rogue One Cast Revealed

Rogue One, the first standalone Star Wars film, now has an official cast, and it looks fantastic. Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Diego Luna (Milk, Elysium), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Blade II), Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Mads Mikkelsen (The Hunt, Casino Royale), and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) will all feature. Alan Tudyk (A Knight’s Tale, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil) will also play a motion-capture character. It looks like the production crew has absolutely nailed the look for this movie: the cast certainly has the rag-tag look of a group of Rebels about to take on something big. Many of the crew involved in graphics, costume, and other visual roles have worked on similarly gritty-looking movies, so it stands to reason that this will have a darker, less-put-together look than some other Star Wars works. We won’t know much more…

Top 3 Reasons to play KotFE – The Vulkk Edition

New Level Cap During the upcoming spring, players will be able to advance their characters from level 60 to level 65. We know that this isn’t much but it’s absolutely better than nothing at all. The game is going to be letting players go to more new places than ever before. The new 5 levels means that there will be alterations in our abilities, also a new utility point and most likely another shuffle within the DR system will happen. Each time that the level cap goes up, the end-game gear either becomes obsolete or is barely an entry level for the new end-game content. By doing this, it levels out the playing field for both the experienced player and the new ones. New Outfits and Clothing Designs Because of the lack of new endgame production at launch that is actually worthy for the launch of an expansion, the more…
