The Guild Sphere: Section Umbra

It’s Thursday which means time to have a chat with a new Guild. This time we had the pleasure to speak to a fellow Scandinavian about his role playing guild Section Umbra.

Enjoy!

Where did your guilds name come from?
Our name is the core of our guild to be honest. We are a sub element of the Republic Intelligence, a special Section. And to name a special section which primary will gather intelligence and the likes, shadow usually have something to do with it. So, Section Umbra it became. Umbra is defined as many things, but a very short description would be “The darkest part of shadow.”

Can you give me a quick 2-3 sentance description of your guild?
Section Umbra is an guild based on the Galactic Republic Intelligence, our HQ will be found at Coruscant.
The section was created for recruiting special units to serve the republic and their missions are various, though primary task is to gather intelligence.

We follow a military structure, just a bit more “free” than the normal military. Which mean, we won’t parade around and greet every captain we see. Hey, we’re built up on special units, hehe.

How did your guild come about?
Originally we had a guild called Nexus of Faith, but we agreed on disbanding it and so it was. We split path, and yes, everyone is still friends, hehe. So we found out to place a old WoW guild (which we founded many years ago) in SWTOR. Of course we had to alter the lore and name a little, but it turned out to be a hidden diamond. We are very happy with the guild as it stand now and can relate to it with our characters, even though it’s not the “standard” star wars lore.

What kind of play style do you focus on? PvE, PvP, RP:
Our main focus is RP, which is medium to heavy, depending on what the member want. But we will focus on PvE also, raiding, questing etc. We will have a designated PvE Manager, or even more.
We will of course PvP also, but that’s left for the members and officers to randomly create groups or enter solo. So you could say we are RPPvE.

What is your guild set up? How do you run your guild?
We have four sections, which are Administrative Section, Jedi Section, Trooper Section and Smuggler Section. In Administrative you will find me (Kenanchi Banshou) to be the High General (top leader) and my second in command, High Adjutant, which will correct me and be everything I’m not. To be blunt, he/she will make sure I do my job. Also the PvE Manager(s) and Recruitment Officer will be located here. In the three other sections all are built up with one General each and one second in command each (Commanders). They work almost like myself and my second in command, trying to watch eachothers back and make eachother effective. So in the end it’s like this: One High General -& One High Adjutant – & Three Generals & Three Commanders.

How serious do you play and/or run the guild?
I would say we are serious about our roleplay and raiding. We aim to give our members a good time, and to do so, you need structure. However, we will of course have a two way communication, the leaders and officers work for the members, and we will never forget that. And as a last comment to that; We want to have fun, so we will! Hehe.

Do you have ranks or a certain hierarchy in your guild?
Yes, as stated above, we have our four sections and leadership as explained. The Jedi, smuggler and trooper section all have many member ranks also.

Why did you choose the Republic
Republic, since we are good ? Hehe, well, the guild setting could not really been done in a Sith way. Also, we are all too much of republic loyalists to ever become sith, even though some of our methods might be a little questionable, hehe.

Why do you run a guild?
Running a guild.. Creating a community.. Having fun.. I just.. love it! Having a good community around is always a blast! I have alot of experience with it in-game and in real life, so it’s really something to fall natural tbh. Seeing a smile on peoples face, number one priority.

How do you approach Raid Planning?
As stated earlier, we will have a designated PvE Manager or multiple. They (and myself) will handle all raid related matters and lead the way for the members to enjoy the content at it’s best.

Are you always open for new recruits or do you want to keep a certain guild size?
This is still uncertain, for now though, we wan’t new faces and joy’s!

Age Requirement?
No, we don’t belive in age. Mental age could be so different from your actual age, so we are more into the “maturity” category.

Guild size?
Right now we’re 11. As we just recently started, we figure it’s a fair amount to begin with.

What makes your guild stand out from everyone else? What makes your guild unique?
Our concept. Our concept of being a intelligence guild and how we want to go for both RP and PvE. How we set this all up. We focus alot on having the members give the leadership idea’s and suggestions which they can build a community not only of how the leaders see things, but the guild as a whole. And our top leadership have a strong belief and steady hands to make this all become the guilds reality.

How do you spend your time until release? Do you know each other in real life or do you spend a lot of time on forums?
Mostly forums and homepage chat. I’ve recently re-created our wow guild though, but that will be mostly social. And a few of us know eachother in real life, so hanging around eachother is a must.

What Other Games are you currently playing as a guild?
World of Warcraft. Also to some extent, League of Legends.

If somebody is interested now how and where can they apply for membership?
First register to our homepage http://www.sectionumbra.com then make an application to our forums http://www.sectionumbra.com/forum If that’s too much of a bother, then visit our Guild HQ http://www.swtor.com/guilds/100220/section-umbra and make an app there. All the links can be reached from our homepage though.

One last question, if there was one thing you could ask the Dev’s to include, what would it be?
Guild content, kind of guild achievments to gain more awsome stuff! And a whole darn city to live in, hehe.
