Exclusive look at Kinect Star Wars at the Skywalker Ranch

Who doesn’t love Kinect?  Add in Star Wars and I’m a happy gamer!  I have been waiting for this game to come out as I’m sure many other Star Wars fans have.  There is a lot more to the game than meets the eye though and it is not just about fighting battles, although there is plenty of that type of action.  Many of the movie scenes are included in the game as well. The Herald Sun tells us more: Kinect Star Wars is one of the most eagerly awaited titles based on the sci-fi franchise. Set just before Episode II: Attack of the Clones, players use the Xbox 360 Kinect motion controller to complete a Jedi Destiny campaign, dogfight in space or go all Rampage on a Rancor. And, of course, most importantly, flail around in their living rooms wielding a Kinect-powered lightsaber. Yes, you get the chance to…

Pictures of the New Speeders in 1.2 (also a look at the guild bank)

There is nothing better than learning what is coming out for the new patches on SWTOR and the 1.2 patch is offering a wide variety of new and amazing features.  I really love the new smaller speeders that are coming out.  You can read about them here but here is a quick quote: “Come 1.2 you have 4 new vehicles achievements form doing hardmode flashpoints, normal and hard operations and killing world bosses. They will reward you with the Aratech line of speeders, which is a nice break from all of those gigantic speeders we being getting…” Not only are there new speeders, but there is also the addition of guild banks which is something most players have been asking for. Full information of guild banks can be found here: “You need 15 members in your guild and 600 k credits to activate the guild bank – the first tab…

Pwrcords.com SWTOR Review

I was very excited when I saw that Power Cords had issued a new review of SWTOR.  I simply cannot get enough reviews of this game to see how other people feel about a game that I have simply fallen in love with. Evan Reedy is a new reviewer and they had this to say about him, “We brought you a review of SWTOR a few months ago, but we had yet to really experience much of the end game content. Well, now we’re making up for that. Our newest writer, Evan Reedy, has his review on the end game content of SWTOR.”  Pwcords.com It is always nice to see that these websites take the time to go back and update reviews that have been lacking.  One issue that was found with the game comes after level 50, Evan states, “Once you reach the maximum level of 50, you kind…

Is EA The Worst Company in the US Today?

The Consumerist website has a yearly contest that is voted on by consumers on who they think is the worst company in the US.  Many thought that some of the big banks or even online video companies would make the top spot this year but surprisingly, EA took it. EA had this to say about their spot as reported by whatculture.com: “We’re sure that bank presidents, oil, tobacco and weapons companies are all relieved they weren’t on the list this year, we’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.” It seems as though EA is not very pleased about this award, even the folks at whatculture.com thought the answer was a bit ironic: “EA had a not so witty retort to the poll, showing it probably got under their skin a little which to me is a good thing.” Now, since…

New Online SWTOR Encounter Analyzer/ Log Parser

With 1.2 comes stats information (available to the user only) and it doesn’t take log at all before someone would create a parser to help us analyze our data from SWTOR. Now we have Encounter Analyzer which even allows you to share your data with other players. This could be essential to guilds looking to do content together or for recruiting new members based on their abilities.  This log parser has many great features and has been upgraded. The clock has even been set to milliseconds for date stamping so you know all times are dead-on now.  You can view either damage or threat in the breakdown on the analyzer. There are also three damage ability breakdowns in three different forms. The first form is a pie chart that allows you to quickly view the damage or threat damage ability breakdown.  If you hold your mouse over each section of…

Community Q& A, April 6th 2012

I just love the weekly community Q & A session SWOTR.com because I learn so much from what other players think of the game.  It was also pleasing to find that the questions are more in tune with the current game play instead of based on upcoming software. The team at SWOTR.com offered: “As a reminder, two weeks ago we suggested a shift in focus in your questions. As development plans are always subject to change, questions about future features will often get vague answers which can be repetitive and sometimes annoying.  With that in mind, the development team is more interested in questions about current in-game features or systems, or questions about why development decisions were made.” There were some really great questions this week and I was able to see some of my concerns answered as well.  Here are some of the best questions from the night: “Giolon:…

SWTOR At PAX East Coverage

For anyone who did not get a chance to hear the Darthhater audio, Dulfy is offering up a transcript of it on Reddit. Darthater had some great coverage for the PAXEast 🙂 For those who don’t have time to listen to the original audio on Darthhater, I typed up the rough transcript of the Q& A panel: http://dulfy.net/2012/04/07/paxeast-2012-swtor-q-a-panel/ (hope you guys don’t mind ) It’s a pretty decent transcript and as always, we appreciate the time and effort Dulfy puts into helping Some of the highlights From Reddit: Q: Why are the smuggler missions not very smugglerly? I don’t get to transport stolen goods from one end of the galaxy to another. You don’t get to do anything that actually counts as a smuggler. All the quests are basically what can I do for you? What can I do for you? etc.. In other words: smugglers right now don’t get…

Interview: Gabe Amatangelo on PvP & Operations

Darth Hater interviewed Gabe Amatangelo on PvP & Operations and as usual, he had some interesting things to say. It is well worth the read if you haven’t already. Thanks Darth Hater! Why did you choose a quasi-Domination objective for the new Warzone? Gabe Amatangelo: Huttball comes at a close second, but overall Domination is the most popular one. Obviously we’re really proud and excited about Huttball being a close second because it is a new take on an existing type of mode. How does Novare Coast differ? I mean, how does Domination differ from game to game? Level design has something to do with it. I’m sure people that are on the PTS already know the specifics of mechanics. It is a majority one, so you have to have two out of three to at least start accruing some points or doing some damage to the enemy base. Also,…

Bioware Reveal More on Novare Coast Warzone

BioWare just revealed more great info about Novare Coast, the upcoming warzone. They released a news article which states: We are excited to reveal Novare Coast, our latest Player-vs-Player Warzone featured in the upcoming Game Update 1.2 “Legacy” for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™! On the war-torn planet of Denova, opposing forces vie for control of Novare Coast, a strategically vital beachhead that leads to the open oceans of Denova. Whoever controls this coastline will have a decisive advantage in taking control of the planet. To secure the beach, sides battle for control of three mortar turrets which can be used to pound the enemy with artillery fire. See the Warzone for yourself by checking out the latest video. Here’s the video yourself so you can check it out. What do you think? I had the chance to check it out briefly myself and I am excited for it. Plus,…

I Ain’t no Hologram Girl! Star Wars Kinect Dance Video

This is probably one of the funniest videos of the dancing mode in the Kinect Star Wars game.  Even the author/dancer of Star Wars Dancing  says, “Short clip of my first attempt at Kinect Star Wars Dancing… slightly embarrassing but funny. Captured using HD PVR with GoPro HD Hero filming player actions. Put together with Sony Vegas.” Embarrassing is putting it mildly because I know I would never post a video like this of myself attempting to do these dance moves (ok, well maybe I would).  I do give him credit though; it takes a great deal of courage to put yourself out there like that.  As for the game, I absolutely love the reaction times between the player and the game.  There was no lag that I could detect between the moves made by the player and the character in the game.  Even the slight head shakes and hip…

“I’m Han Solo” on Kinect Star Wars

The news of Kinect Star Wars’ release was big. The game is hot! Everything awesome you ever loved about the Star Wars movies, you can now do yourself in Kinect Star Wars, where you are the controller and it puts you literally, in the game. The only down side seems to be the dance mini-game. It hasn’t gotten rave reviews, as we’ve told you before and this latest video isn’t doing much to change the hype. Check it out and tell us what you think. Do you have Kinect Star Wars? What do you think of the dance portion? Kinect Star Wars is a little like Kinect Adventures where you have various types of games to play. This is my 2nd attempt at dancing, after choosing an epic track “I’m Han Solo” to dance to. Sorry for the picture quality – I don’t have a screen recorder so I just…

Rakata and Battlemaster itemization changes reverted on the PTS

Now Rakata and Battlemaster itemization changes are reverted on the PTS and you keep the extra expertise. This post on explains: I was working on some PvE stat comparisons last night and found something odd: the rakata set on the PTS and live were giving me identical stats. At first I thought it was just a glitch but then I went and double checked both Rakata and Battlemaster on Live and PTS. The re-itemization they were doing on the PTS got reverted back but you keep the extra expertise on the Battlemaster. Not sure if it is a mistake or intended but I didn’t see much on the patch notes about it. Here is an image to illustrate what I am talking about.. http://i.imgur.com/nxR8O.jpg For those who don’t know the background story. When 1.2 came out on the PTS, many players saw their Rakata and Battlemaster stats changed – both…

George Lucas says there will ‘never’ be a new ‘Star Wars’

Star Wars fans may not be happy to hear that George Lucas says there will never be a new Star Wars. Ouch! If you’ve been waiting for Episodes VII, VIII and IX to someday hit the theaters, it’s not happening, says Lucas. It’s not actually the first time that he’s said he has retired from the Star Wars genre but this time he made it sound pretty final. It’s like Lucas is saying “I made my decision, now stop asking me. On Wednesday, George Lucas blasted away any chance of ever seeing a new birth of the “Star Wars” franchise when TMZ briefly caught him leaving a Hollywood restaurant. Asked when the newest installment of “Star Wars” would be, Lucas was blunt: “Never,” he said, adding “I’m retired.” We’ve written about this before and it does seem like Lucas is a bit bitter over the fans who didn’t like what…

Combs the Sands of Tatooine: BioWare Made a Funny?

In what is a bit like finding an Easter egg, BioWare has a Spaceballs reference in the Bounty Hunter storyline. See the pic: While the phrase has actually been around for a very long time, it was Spaceballs that made it well known (and funny) when taken in a literal sense. Was this a little way for someone from BioWare to pay tribute to a Star Wars classic spoof? I bet even Lucas himself would be amused.

MMO Norge has a really cool find for all SWTOR players- an app that parses game data for you so you can see stats and other important details. Players have been waiting for something like this since SWTOR came out. Here are the details direct from their site (the app is in English): TORmeter! – A Parser for Star Wars: The Old Republic. A user here at MMO Norge, calling himself ‘Skygge’ has put his skills with Python to good use. He has created a fully functional combat-parser (DPS-Meter, Recount … many names for the fat ugly baby) that does exactly what you want it to do. And that is to give you the hard math behind your latest fight. You can get final proof that you not only beat your friend in that duel, you raped him digitally. Or maybe you want to review your latest raid. Check out…

1.2 Smuggler Gear Makes you Say “What?!”

Most classes are excited and anxious to see the new gear that will come with game update 1.2. For those of us playing Smuggler, your excitement levels may change when you see the pictures of what we get to wear. Many players have already set out to the official forums to complain about the gear. LongGui says, “I agree, Way to much art and not enough design. Practical wins over artisitic/showy any day. I cant get over that helmet.” Jarwan says: “I’m praying that the gear I saw in that trailer around 1:41 mins mark is not a Smuggler but the fact that they were doing the resting animation has destroyed all hope. The hat looks like one of those you see people wearing in ball games which holds a bear can on each side of the hat. That gear is wrong, who ever designed that gear from Bioware should…
