SWTOR: Double Rewards Event – Bad News and Good News
In another galaxy far far away, BioWare ( The other Star Wars publisher) is pushing the double rewards event in SWTOR, that was supposed to come with game update 5.6 to the next patch. So due to a scheduling conflict in game. It will now go live with game update 5.6.1. Here is the news: Hey folks, Quick update on the planned double event which was to start tomorrow with Game Update 5.6. First, the bad news. We hit a scheduling issue within the game and the double event will not go live tomorrow as intended. Now, the good news. As a make good for this missed opportunity, we are going to run the double event with Game Update 5.6.1 coming on 12/12. As an added bonus this will be an extended double event as we will run it from 12/12 – 1/1! We apologize for the change in date, but expect…
EA is investigating the latency issue in Star Wars: Battelfront 2
If you have been playing Star Wars: Battlefront 2 lately, you might have been experiencing lag lately. If you haven’t, below is a video of what I am talking about. DICE and EA are not to eager to speak out though. A one sentence response is not normal for a game that just went live. As one player responded: “The lag is caused by gamers shutting the door to hard as they quit playing for good, the vacuum as it closes Sucks you back a few seconds and will be fixed when the last few remaining players have gone.” A bit hard if you ask me, as the game is not half as bad as people like it to be. Anyways, here is the news: Hello, We are aware of the issues that lead players to experience latencies on the game servers. We are currently investigating and will update you as…
EA Is Now Ironically Stuck With $60 ‘Battlefront 2’ And No Good Way To Re-Monetize It
forbes.com had an interesting article the other day, regarding how EA now is “stuck” with a game they can’t monetize as they want to. Here’s a summary of some of the points: Battlefront got backlash for having a $50 season pass and launching with barebones content. In Star Wars Battlefront 2 they changed the system and promised free DLC while using microtransactions and loot-boxes to monetize the game. Thanks to the backlash, they have removed microtransactions . . . but they’ve stated that they’re planning on reinstating them. If they do bring back microtransactions tied to progression then they will still face backlash. If they bring back lootboxes with only cosmetic items they’ll still draw ire. They’ve already enticed responses from multiple governments on the issues of lootboxes. That leaves them with really only one path forwards that won’t bring back a ton of backlash: Implementing an online store with microtransactions…
SWTOR Server Transfer comes with game update 5.6
Eric Musco informed the community that server transfers will be available again with Patch 5.6 assuming everything goes to plan. Alright folks, here are the updates as I mentioned yesterday! Timing: We are in the final stages of testing and assuming that all goes well, we are going to bring transfers back online on Tuesday with Game Update 5.6. Pricing: By popular request, we are going to bring transfers back at the pre-United Forces pricing (90 // 150CC) for a limited time. After that time they will go up to their new standard pricing of 1,000CC. I will let you all know on Monday if we are still on track for transfers to go live again on Tuesday and the exact timing for the sale pricing. Thanks everyone. -eric
Old School vs. Latest Gaming Technology
If you were born in the 1970’s you must remember family time hunched over a huge console playing TV games until the birds came out. TV games made its appearance in 1972 but only wowed gamers in 1975 with the release of Atari’s Pong game. Electronic entertainment has seen a widespread mass effect. People of all ages and creeds buy into the mass market of gaming purely for the kind of entertainment it affords players with. It’s a whooping serving of Miracle Whip on a burger, steadily focused on a pure outcome, which is pure enjoyment. This breakthrough in technology kicked off a trend that very few could have anticipated, and even today, retro tech is hot news. Let’s look at how electronic entertainment has evolved over the decades. Military Invention In the 1960’s the US government wanted a device that would enhance the reflexes of military personnel and developed…
Mario Bros – An arcade style game that keeps evolving
How Mario Bros All Began Everyone has heard of the Italian plumber who was created by a Japanese artist. This little man in red with a moustache was featured in more than 100 video games. The story of this popular plumber begins in the 1980s. The president of Nintendo at the time, Hiroshi Yamauchi commissioned an artist to create a game for Nintendo. The artist’s name was Miyamoto. He was not a programmer, but was able to develop a storyline before the workings of the game were designed, and had a good knowledge of technology and how the current trends would affect his creation. The game was Donkey Kong which was a love story between a man, his girlfriend and a gorilla. The main character was Jump Man and he could climb and jump ladders, move left or right and jump over obstacles and between platforms. This game was unlike…
More Info on Master’s Datacron (Instant 70 boost)
BioWare just posted a new blog updating the players on how the Master’s Datacron will work in Game Update 5.6. Starting with ’A Traitor Among the Chiss’ (Game Update 5.6) on November 28th, there will be a new item introduced to the Cartel Market called the Master’s Datacron. This item will allow you to take any non-maximum level (70) character on your account and immediately move them up to maximum level. One unique thing about this boost is that it doesn’t progress your character’s story at all, meaning this is a great way to play through the classic Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ storylines without worrying about your character level! The Master’s Datacron also comes with the Eternal Commander Equipment bundle. Once you have boosted to max level and chosen your character’s Discipline (more on this below), you can use the equipment bundle to have a full set of level 70 gear…

The Microtransactions in Star Wars Battlefront 2 have been temporarily disabled
EA is temporarily pulling the microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II. This is probably due to the outcry in the community, and the little calculation we posted the other day. This is a pretty daring move just hourse before the official relase of Star Wars: Battlefront 2. Below is the full statement from Oskar Gabrielson, GM, DICE Thank you to everyone in our community for being the passionate fans that you are. Our goal has always been to create the best possible game for all of you – devoted Star Wars fans and game players alike. We’ve also had an ongoing commitment to constantly listen, tune and evolve the experience as it grows. Damion Schubert Former SWTOR Dev on Loot Boxes
With all the controversy about EA’s business model for Star Wars: Battlefront 2, former SWTOR developer Damion Schubert offer some insights on the hated lootboxes. The whole conversion can be found on twitter and in our copy pate below: Damion Schubert was the Senior Designer/Lead Designer/Director of Microtransactions Design at SWTOR (May 2006 – October 2014). He was responsible for initial conception and design of key new F2P, monetization features, including random pack design, dye mods, minipets, player vehicles and animal mounts, and player housing (according to his Linkedin profile) Let’s talk lootboxes, and how annoying it is to watch AAA publishers fuck them up from the perspective of someone who has to design to them. (1) I’ve been working in Free-to-Play games for 4 years, and loot boxes are pretty crucial to that business model working. But it *is* possible to do them ethically, and they are super easy to fuck up….

SWTOR Server Merges Information
Yesterday the SWTOR servers was merged into 5 new servers. Below information is from reddit: Why are the servers being merged? There are not as many players actively playing as there were years ago. Players have requested server merges for years to help boost queue times for group activities and to make it easier for players to more easily find others to play with. The population of the servers had also become extremely unbalanced – some servers like the Harbinger and the Red Eclipse had extremely high populations, many others had “ok” populations, but there were a few servers including Jung Ma and Prophecy of the Five that had very few players logging in to play on them. Server merges will ensure that new and returning players won’t accidentally wind up on “dead” servers, and should help queue times for those who enjoy group content including flashpoints, operations, PvP and GSF….
