Star Wars Fans Want to Remake Canceled Battlefront III

We know how much some fans want to see Star Wars: Battlefront III. Some want it so bad, in fact, that they want to remake it themselves. The controversial and ill-fated shooter was in development with Free Radical before it was cancelled and many fans were upset by the news. It’s been almost a year since then but Eurogamer has some info that might indicate a reboot. “Now, fans of Free Radical’s effort at Russia-based Frontwire Studios are attempting to remake this version of Battlefront, retitled Galaxy in Turmoil. The project is live now on ModDB. The small developer is also asking via Reddit for anyone else with coding experience to get involved.” As you probably already know, a lot of the gameplay from Battlefront III (or what it would have been) has been leaked online. We are able to see a lot of info about the levels, capabilities and even…

Star Wars: Uprising – The New Generation of Sector Battles & New Imperial Battles

The Star Wars: Uprising community are getting an update on Sector Battle mechanics which we think look very promising. Check it out: The New Generation of Sector Battles & New Imperial Battles Next Sector Battle: Hey Everyone, Big stuff coming this next week. First: New Sector Battle Prizing and Freedom Ratings. All prizes for normal Sector Battles have been squashed together. This means all Victory levels will reward the same prizes and those prizes will be somewhere between the old Strong Victory and Overwhelming Victory prizes or, in some cases, better. So don’t sweat the Victory Points for prizing, sweat it for upping the prize brackets for next time (see below). All planets with Freedom Rating above 10 will have an even higher bracket of prizes including SILVER FACTION CURRENCY. Since it looks like it’s most certainly Hoth next, I’ll post the prize bracket for its current Freedom Rating at the end of…

EA Teases Future Star Wars Games and More

You know how we love Star Wars games and we know you do too. Now EA is giving some indication that we might have some more Star Wars games on the way soon. CFO Blake Jorgensen said this week that Battlefront, mobile game Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes, and free-to-play MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic did “extremely well” in 2015 and will continue to perform well in the time ahead.  He then goes on to say that the sky is the limit for Star Wars games and the brand, which really is not a surprise to anyone at this point. EA has the license to the brand for the next 10 years and with the new films coming out as well, we can bet they will do all they can to make the most of this opportunity. “We see it as a great start–building a strong base of people that…

Questions for the Director of Star Wars Uprising

Daniel Erickson has a reputation for reaching out to the community, especially when it comes to games he works on. This is something I really like, especially with my background in gaming and game writing. It’s nice to see directors, developers and game writers/editors who care about what the community thinks. It’s nice to see them taking the time to invest in their community and listen to their concerns, answer their questions and just open that dialogue. Sometimes that’s all it takes to make a player a lifelong fan because you’re showing that you actually care about them. With that said, Daniel Erickson is offering up the opportunity to pick his brain about Star Wars Uprising. In case you missed it on the forums, here’s the post: “Hey Folks, Got questions? I’ll do my best to answer them or find the expert that can. All posts will be read. Well intended…

Star Wars Game Almost Had Luke Skywalker’s and Han Solo’s Sons Face Off

The world of Star Wars canon is a rich a busy one at all times apparently, as there are always people plotting and scheming, looking for various ways to further the stories of the characters and their offspring, thus creating opportunities for more games, movie episodes and generally: more Star Wars action. Some of the ideas these people come up with are questionable at best while others border on the genius: it has recently been revealed that at one point  few years ago, there were plans for an original trilogy game which would’ve featured a storyline quite reminiscent of the Star Wars: the Force Awakens storyline, had it come to fruition. The first clue about the existence of the said project was dropped by a book which focused on the history of LucasArts. In that book, there were a few logos featured for potential Star Wars games, one of them…

XCOM 2 – MOD ARMORY #2

Could XCOM 2 be a better game than Star Wars Battlefront? Some people definitely think so. In an opinion piece for htxt, one gamer says why he thinks it is. First, he gives us some background into XCOM 2. “XCOM 2 is the story of a group of rebels (XCOM) fighting against an oppressive regime (ADVENT). You get to control and lead a ragtag group of heroes using jerry-rigged weapons and technology to defeat the better armed and armoured bad guys. Oh, and there’s aliens.” And then he says what he thinks about Star Wars Battlefront: “Okay, hear me out. Star Wars: Battlefront is both a terrible Star Wars experience and a terrible videogame in general. Does it look like Star Wars? Hell yes, it’s eye-wateringly beautiful. And the sound assets? Absolutely superb. But it doesn’t feel like Star Wars. It wears the façade of the franchise like a slick doppelgänger. Imagine…

There was a lot of talk about it at the New York Media Festival this year and we even got to try out some of the latest VR technology for ourselves in the exhibits. But we recently heard some interesting news about Lucasfilm and Industrial Light and Magic. As part of this year’s Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco, Industrial Light and Magic, the special effects arm of Star Wars studio Lucasfilm, announced that it will give a talk at the Virtual Reality Developers Conference. The event takes place on March 14 and we should know more specifics after that. But for now, there are some hints that VR might be coming to Star Wars. They don’t directly name Star Wars but there’s a good chance this is the franchise being implied here: “At VRDC, Lucasfilm Industrial Light and…

Star Wars Commander Soars in China

Chinese mobile game company, MGE, said that Star Wars: Commander has become a No. 1 hit in China, generating more than 1 million downloads in just four days. This is a huge sign that Western content is popular in China and that the love for Star Wars is truly universal. The Chinese love Star Wars as much as we do. Venture Beat goes on to explain a little more about this: Licensed from Disney, CMGE (China Mobile Games and Entertainment Group) tailored this Clash of Clans-like strategy game for the Chinese market and promoted on the many app stores in that country. That’s consistent with a trend of Western developers partnering with local Chinese companies to take their work to China, which has become the biggest market in the $30 billion mobile gaming industry.
