TOR TV: SWTOR – What The Game Could Have Been

Youtube user Kid Lee has posted an extremely interesting video about how much the game has changed since the original SWToR beta. He provides video and screenshots to demonstrate the features that never made it into the game. While one can only speculate why these elements never made it to the game, it’s certainly interesting to see what got left out. You can follow KidLee on: Twitter: http://bit.ly/1fDcU1X Facebook: http://on.fb.me/RpNZDP Tumblr: http://bit.ly/1fUxQMB or Email: KidLeeASF@Gmail.com

Lies, damned lies and statistics: MMO subscription numbers and SWToR

MMO subscription number tracking is a challenging venture. Most developers are extremely careful when crafting public releases relating to how many subscribers their game currently has. For better or worse, these values are considered to be a measure of success (or failure) of our beloved games and tend to offer insights on subscriber trends. Typically one would read announcements about player base increases in official websites or fansites, while occasionally quarterly reports would indicate decreases somewhere in the fine print. Some recent examples include World of Warcraft’s increase to 7.4 Million subscribers  and SWToR’s announcement of having 1 Million subscribers since changing to the free-to-play subscription model. Some of the MMO subscription data MMOData.net used to offer At the same time, some community websites have attempted to track subscription numbers and offer clarity on the health of various MMOs. The most recent example is MMOdata.net that was probably one of the best community efforts out there….

Discipline calculator now available!

With the upcoming release of Patch 3.0, SWToR gamers will have to adjust to a new discipline system. The feedback received from the community has been mostly positive but the challenge of mastering the new system definitely remains. Dulfy and SWToR_miner put together a discipline calculator that helps fans familiarize themselves with the new system in addition to experimenting with new setups. The calculator is still in beta and what’s even more impressive is that it was built from information retrieved from video streams.

Battlefront 3 Footage Available?

Well…yes and no…you see, apparently, well before DICE got the fate of one of the world’s most anticipated titles in gaming to fall into their laps, another crew had a run at Battlefront, and they actually put together a nearly-finished product, which – due to a set of unfortunate circumstances – never really got the see the light of day, or rather that of the screens of computer/console users world-wide. The company behind the effort was Free Radical, and according to some, they were about 99% finished with the project when they were forced into administration and when they finally closed for good in December 2008. Later, Crytek picked up the enterprise and transferred the team to various other projects, as Battlefront was cancelled, up until DICE came into the picture earlier this year to step up to the plate. Now then, why exactly is this bit of the game’s…

Interview with community manager Eric Musco

Twitch user Snave1208 had the chance to interview BioWares community manager for Star Wars: The old Republic, Eric Musco. It’s a pretty good interview, were Eric talks about what he do, and were SWTOR is heading. Snave1208 don’t let Musco off easy when he was trying to dodge answering some of the questions. But i do sound like the games PVP wont get much better in the future. Personally I am not surprised or remotely happy with the PvP answers but I partially understand where Musco is coming from. He has a rough job. Their “better than cross-server” is likely to be something like “Queue for 500 matches this month and get the rest of the Baron Deathmark gear!” This is the mentality that they have, and it’s harmful. Hopefully iy will change in the future though!

It also allows you to play part of the game while streaming the rest of the patch. It also allows for easy repair of a corrupted program. BioWare uses this technology so that new players can download half the game and start playing…

Rumor: A Star Wars Trilogy Of Obi-Wan Kenobi Movies In Development

What would you think of a trilogy of Obi-Wan Kenobi films? I think I’d be interested in seeing it, in hopes they don’t mess it up and that it’s actually interesting. We talked before about the new Star Wars films being in development and how there were talks of many more Star Wars films and shows in the works. Could this rumor be of one of those? According to movie website Cinelinx, a rumor is going around about the making of three Obi-Wan movies set betweenRevenge of the Sith and A New Hope. If Disney and Lucasfilm are making such a series, it would definitely be of interest to Star Wars fans. When elaborating of what they films would be about, it was said that they would be interconnected but also able to stand alone as independent films (think like James Bond). The unnamed source of the rumor says that Lucasfilm already…

Why BioWare Can’t Officially Support Fan Sites, Podcasters, Etc.

Some people might be curious why Bioware never seems to show a lot of support for the fan sites and fans that work so hard to promote them. This can be very frustrating if you don’t have a solid understanding of how these things work and why. It’s very important that Bioware doesn’t show any favoritism to a particular fansite or podcast, as this could cause some serious issues. There’s also a little matter of some liability issues that could come into play. Bioware is definitely not the only company to take this very same stance. But recently, they explained the reasoning why. In a recent live-stream, Courtney and Pokket explains why Bioware cannot officially support 99% of the streamers, podcasts and fansites. Basically, the fansite agreement says they can not have ties with any site that has advertisements of any kind. Streamers have Twitch adds Youtube has preroll adds Podcasts…

When Will SWTOR See New PvP Content?

We have heard a lot of talk about SWTOR and the new content coming out recently. Fans are hyped up about all the good stuff coming with 3.0 but one player on the forums asked something that I was also thinking: Can we expect to see any PvP content or news any time soon. While SWTOR isn’t marketed as a PvP game, it does still have those elements to it and some players really like it so it would be great to see Bioware do a little more in this area to keep things fun and interesting. Community Manager Eric Musco had this to say in response on the forums: Hey Jaiyne, Good question, let me take a stab at this one. If you are asking specifically for news about new content, such as a Warzone or Arena map, then the answers is unfortunately no. There are no new maps,…

GSF Changes in 3.0: Requisition Gain Increases; No New Maps or Ships

BioWare posted an update on the official forums today, letting us know, that there will be no new maps or ships coming with Shadow of Revan. Personally I’m not that surprised about this, as this game update came between major game expansions. I also feel space PVP have enough maps that the lack of new ones isn’t a big deal. What Galactic starfighter nees are some new game modes. There’s so many cool things they could do, it’s such a waste of potential to only have node capture and deathmatch. Anyways. Check out the news below: Howdy Space Jockeys! I wanted to pop in and let y’all know that there aren’t going to be any new maps or ships for GSF in 3.0. However, we are making a change to the Requisition curve in that all the Requisition rewards are getting a permanent boost. Remember though (because Musco would kill me if…

Star Wars Battlefront Progress Report

After all the hype DICE’s upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront generated with its brief but spectacular E3 trailer, the noise around the game has died off, especially after it became clear that its release would not happen this year. Still, those who keep an eye on the news regarding the title, will pick up bits and pieces of information dropped by the parties involved in the making of the game one way or another. Representatives of one website apparently got to take a look at an early version of the game, and they were quick to let the hungry community have a couple of crumbs of much-needed information. Apparently, the new Battlefront will have a higher number of high-definition weapons than its predecessors, and there will be a definite strategy involved in wielding and using these weapons. The weapons will apparently dictate the fighting style on the part of the player,…
