There has been much speculation and controversy about Star Wars: Battlefront  because there has not been any solid information about the game except that it’s due to release late this year. Fans of the game could not find any information regarding the game as far as new abilities or gameplay information. Recently, a new video has been found on YouTube talking about what players will get to experience when it comes to new Force abilities. However, this new video has not been confirmed by the developers of the game or any other worthy source. Former LucasArts President Joins Dungeon Defenders as CEO

Independent developer Trendy Entertainment has hired former LucasArts president Darrell Rodriguez as its new CEO. Trendy Entertainment, best known for its action-RPG Dungeon Defenders, is hoping the former LucasArts president will help lead their company to future success. Rodriguez tells Game Industry Biz: “When I first visited here I saw tremendous potential–both in Dungeon Defenders II and their cross platform backend and technology, Playverse, and needed to be a part of it. Video game developer Red Fly Studios and publisher LucasArts were working on a new Star Wars based Darth Maul video game experience in 2010, which was supposed to expand the gameplay mechanics that were introduced in The Force Unleashed. Footage of the game has emerged online and sources are saying that the game was designed to initially be launched only on the Wii U by the same team that handled the port for Star Wars: The Force Unleashes II. LucasArts was impressed with the initial development work done by Red Fly Studios and decided to also greenlight the title for the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. It’s been awhile since we’ve heard anything about a new game from LucasArts but it appears that could be about to change. Metro.co.uk talks about a job listing that indicates there is a new “open world” RPG in the making. This is exciting news but it also raises a lot of questions and peaks the curiosity of all types of gamers. The last title released by LucasArts was “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II”, which seemed to leave a lot to be desired for many gamers. The idea of a new game is exciting for many. The name was originally created by myself and Myphos long before SWTOR was announced. The name was based on our love of the Sentinel class in KotOR. Lucasfilm isn’t shy about diving deeply into Star Wars lore to churn out plastic toys based on the people, starships and beasts of George Lucas’ universe(s). But what about turning those Star Wars video games into action figures? Sounds like two upcoming video games could be ripe for Lucas exploitation. According to the September 17 episode of The ForceCast, answers from an interview with Hasbro’s Derryl DePriest confirmed the plans: 0:44:00 – And as we look at 2012, that’s really where we think we’re going to look at The Force Unleashed II and The Old Republic. Haden Blackman Resigns From LucasArts

Only months after LucasArts saw its President, Darrell Rodriguez, depart the company,  its Executive Producer has now also left. IGN reports that Haden Blackman, executive producer and writer for The Force Unleashed series, has resigned from his LucasArts position. IGN got confirmation from LucasArts on the news and a representative assured that the development of The Force Unleashed II will not be affected. Blackman issued a statement that included the following: “I’ve had a fantastic time working with the team at Lucasfilm and am really grateful for their ongoing support.” “While the decision to leave LucasArts did not happen overnight or come easily, I really feel that now is the best time for me to move on and explore new creative challenges and I look forward to the next phase of my career.” This news is just coming out so we’ll be sure to update as we learn more on…

Rumor: Star Wars: Starfighter to be resurrected

Several video game news sites are reporting that the next installment of Starfighter could possibly be in the works and may even be revealed next week at E3. This is definitely a possibility, since LucasArts has not revisited any flight simulation games since Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, released on the GameCube in 2003. Since we only know of  four upcoming Star Wars games (The Force Unleashed 2, The Old Republic, Lego Star Wars III, and the newly announced Clone Wars Adventures), E3 is a mighty fine time to announce a game, but for now, file this one away as a rumor. Unless you’ve been stuck upside down in a wampa cave, you probably have heard that Spike TV was airing the entire Star Wars saga, back in April 2008.
