BioWare have updated the public test servers with a new patch. It’s clear we are getting closer and closer to the release of patch 1.5 and the Free to Play version of the game. We are still not quite there yet though, so today’s normal server maintenance won’t bring it to the live servers. That’s alright though. I think we all want the most polished free to play version of the game as possible. Up until release you also get to play around with the Cartel Market on PTS. for a while yet. Below are the patch notes: The patch notes published for the Public Test Server are not final and are subject to change. The Public Test Server Patch Notes will be provided in English. The final release notes will be provided in English, French, and German when the content is moved to live servers. Cartel Market and Free-to-Play Prices on some Cartel Market Items have been adjusted…

TOR TV: SWTOR triple monitor setup
Ever wonder how SWTOR plays on 3 monitors? If you don’t do it your self, or have any friends who does it, here is your chance. In this video, the player have 3 24″ 1920X1080 Displays running SWTOR at an average of about 45fps in populated and battle scenarios. This features two of his characters found ( both RP’ers) Belak is the Trooper Perv, the other is Nathe his Jedi healer. While you may already be running two displays (every graphics card provides at least two outputs, with most motherboards also providing display output and cheap access to a second graphics card), it’s now easy for everyone to enjoy three, four, six or even 10 displays. While many people might think it’s simply unnecessary to have this many screens, triple-panel gaming and a host of demanding jobs require an amount of digital desktop space only a multi-monitor setup can provide. You…

I have always been a huge fan of flashmobs, but I have never seen a full out orchestral flash mobs — that play the Star Wars Theme. I also love that they brought both harp and timpani. That’s dedication. We can only hope they show up at next July’s Celebration Europe II oh… And as a bonus video, I give you the newest Star Wars spoof from our old friend OneMinuteGalactica – The Awkward Awards. Yes, Everything is so less regal and majestic when the music cuts out:

Thanks for participating in our first Meet the Developers feature – you can expect to see more of these in the future! Q: With an Art History degree, how did you get into the role of a gaming developer? Do you have an additional qualification which enabled you to get into that position or was it purely from interest? Jesse: When we interview a design candidate, college degrees are footnotes compared to your gaming pedigree, especially published games, mods, and independent projects that you’ve worked on. Looking around the studio, I can tell you that I work with many of the most…

Developer Spotlight: Jesse Sky
BioWare just started a new series of developer blogs called Developer Spotlight. The idea is to interview members of the SWTOR development team letting the playerbase getting to know the faces behind the game. In this first interview, BioWare interviews Jesse Sky, Lead Flashpoints and Operations Designer. Here’s a snip: What specifically attracts you about Flashpoints and Operation design? Flashpoint design is a lot like running a tabletop roleplaying game with a massive audience. You get to explore a lot of different kinds of storytelling that aren’t really feasible outside of a video game. I’ve always felt that our Flashpoints and Operations were aided by the fact that you have a very personal story. You actually form a bond with your character, and then you take him on these really wild and dangerous adventures. Every time my Dark Jedi pairs up with a bunch of do-gooders for a Flashpoint, I cackle when I win the…

TOR TV: Terror from Beyond is a beautiful operation
Youtube user heltidsluffare created this short film of his very first run in Terror from Beyond. As he mention in the title of the movie, Terror from Beyond is a beautiful operation- and so I agree. Personally I thought it was like a breath of fresh air loading in for the first time. It really had that big open feel that I was hoping more of the planets/zones would have. I also think this has been my least buggy experience with an operation to be honest. My ops group have not hit a single bug that stopped our progress… The only one I’ve seen at all is when the adds on the first boss don’t despawn after a wipe, but we were able to kill them without triggering the boss, so no worries really.

Confirmed – Daniel Erickson leaving BioWare
A few weeks ago we wrote the story that Daniel Erickson was “Actively looking for new opportunities” . Today Mr. Erickson confirms this rumor via twitter as he has started his new twitter account for job hunting and design thoughts. Back in early September, we saw via Erickson’s LinkedIn profile that he was looking for new opportunities. We speculated about what this might mean but warned against jumping to conclusions and thinking this meant he was leaving BioWare. However, with so many BioWare Austin staff members making their exits, it wouldn’t be a big surprise. Well, now we stumbled across this Tweet and this new Twitter account from Daniel Erickson and it’s clear that he has officially left BioWare and is on the job hunt. So he has known for at very least, the month of September that he was leaving or was already gone. So now that we do know it…

TOR TV: How to gear an alt fast
Youtube heltidsluffare made an interesting video showing how he geared his latest alt in SWTOR. The same day as he got level 50 he was fully geared to do anything. Personally I can definitely foresee some people really appreciating this video. However… 1.4 made his weapon choice much easier! You can use the ranked warzone commendations to get a war hero lightsaber immediately at 50 instead of down-ranking them to buy the battlemaster lightsaber. You get a better product, and you pay less. I know you made your plans before the patch, but it is such a significant change that players today need to be aware of. Still a great watch. Check it out below:
TOR TV: Lore of The Old Republic Part 2: The Planet of Coruscant

Star Wars: The old republic Encyclopedia trailer
The SWTOR Encyclopedia we have talked about so much in the past, has now got it’s own trailer video. The Cover Art of this book was revealed back in june, and DK Publishing has published illustrations from the book a few times also. Fist time we wrote about it was back in june were we posted these pictures, and less then a month ago we posted these. Several of the writers who have worked on the game, are also credited as authors of the book, Including Hall Hood, Joanna Berry, Charles Boyd, Ian Ryan, and James B. Jones. Anyways. The Encyclopedia should be interesting. Check out the trailer below: The book is to be released on October 12, 2012.

No Maintenance today
Normally we are used to Tuesday scheduled maintenance, but today is different. Community Manager Joveth Golzalez did a Twitter update to announce the lack of a scheduled maintenance: TheCantinaBand asked if this meant that game update 1.4 was near by, and Mr. Gonzalez responded with, “keep an eye on the swtor.com website!” We will keep you update if any news on patch 1.4 emerge.
