Star Wars Fan Movie Winner: Unlimited Power

Comic Con 2011 was a veritable moving feast of delightful nerdery – from new toys an merch unveilings to those over-subscribed panels and sneak peeks at upcoming films and games. And in amongst the cosplay devotees and the casual dorks alike, the winner of the Star Wars Fan Movie Awards’ prestigious George Lucas Selects Award was chosen and congratulated by a host of nerdy on-lookers. This year’s winner of the award, presented by Lucasfilm and Atom, was Los Angeles-based filmmaker Eliot Sirota for his film, Star Wars: Unlimited Power. The film isn’t your usual fan-made fare in that it doesn’t seek to tell a story of a different part of the Star Wars universe to those shown in both trilogies, preferring instead to take the fake marketing approach that serves many fan poster-makers so well. And it was a deserved winner in my book: The film-maker spoke to The Official…

SkyMarshall Arts SWTOR Song and Video

Star Wars Norge: The Old Republic Fansite tipped us off to a great SWTOR song made by a group called “SkyMarshall Arts””. They created a music video to go with it and it’s a fun listen/watch for any SWTOR fan. I can totally see myself listening to this while playing the game. The first part is action-packed and exciting, with a slower rendition at the end. The video fits perfectly with the movie and it’s all very enjoyable. “This is a tribute to the upcoming MMORPG “Star Wars: The Old Republic” by Bioware, EA and LucasArts – as well as Star Wars in general. It is a compilation of the most popular themes from Star Wars wrapped in a sugary eurodance-ish coating. It was made entirely from scratch using Cubase, FLstudio and Audition.” Credits: Remix: SkyMarshall Arts (Eirik Blodøks Hafskjold) Video: Star Wars Norge (www.starwarsnorge.com) Original Score: John Williams (composer)…

Top 10 reasons to play SWTOR

Domslife did a YouTube Movie showing the Top Ten reasons I want to play Star Wars: The Old Republic. Not that many of you need convincing off course, But it is a well made video that was worth sharing. I thought I’ve seen every video, every little thing put out for this game but there were some things in the background I don’t recall seeing, namely the Darth Malgus scene actually in-game. Great video and some good info tucked in behind the reasons.

SWTOR – A Fun look at Run/Walk Animations

Logun has made yet another SWTOR fan video. This time he takes look at the Run/Walk animations in Star Wars: The old republic that have been heavily criticised since the first ingame videos hit the world. Because I had a lot of people requesting this here is a fun look at the Run / Walk animations in SWTOR. Although the early footage from Pax 2009 had some wonky Run/Walk animations I really didn’t see that much to be critical about in the more recent videos. I guess its true about first impressions being hard to shake. Check out his YouTube channel here and make sure you subscribe. You can watch his latest video bellow:

While we wait: Ryan vs. Brandon 2

The Complete, official version of Ryan vs. Brandon 2 is done. I must say it’s entertaining. This was an awesome way to spend a few minutes before seeing the clone wars tonight. The video has great production value; the swordplay was very creative and the FXs seemed professional to my untrained eyes. The actors/fighters were pretty good and their performance was, IMO superior to many fights we’ve seen in the prequels notably. Only downside I can notice is that, like with the SW sextology, most of the strikes do not target the opponent but are simply made so that they can be acrobatically parried. There’s not efficiency to it. It’s one of the most annoying things about the prequels (that Anakin vs. Obiwan swinging contest gif that was on reddit a couple of weeks ago illustrates this perfectly). If the prequels were to be remade I wish the swordplay would…

More Space Combat footage in Jace Hall Show Episode 11

The Jace Hall Show Episode 11 has just lounched! (watch the movie below) This time it showcases  more of the Space Combat that the last episode teased us with . Two new pieces of information is revealed in this video: 1) You can make your ship do a barrel roll by pressing the space bar. 2) It  looks like space combat has a soft auto targeting feature. I guess this makes it  more user friendly but whether that’s good or bad you have to decide. I also like how Jace Hall showed a flash of Star Trek online box art when they were explaining what NOT to do in a MMORPG. Timestamps for the Bioware scenes in the below movie are as follows: 1:35-2:32 3:29-4:01 5:57-6:37

Star Wars Fan film : 3 Minutes

Short, Sweet and action packed. Graduate of San Diego State University’s film program Ross Ching, put together a small 3 min fan film. It’s not really a star wars movie, but it got lightsaber combat and sweet moves. I liked the idea of this short story called “The Most Dangerous Game” so I adapted it back when I was in film school, but when I made it back then I didn’t have many people to help me make it so it didn’t turn out too great. After being in the industry and living in LA for a few years now, I got a chance to make new friends and really take advantage of their professional talents. The producers of the piece, George Wang and Don Le were in talks with Harry Shum Jr. to collaborate on something when I met them. They brought me on the project, and were initially…

The Star Wars Christmas Special

It’s Christmas time, and while today that means people grinching about whether or not you should say “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas,” there was a time when the biggest issue people had was which televised Christmas special they were going to watch. We’ve all seen the one with Rudolph and that one with the Heat Miser, and I’m sure the amount of hours spent watching the adventures of Frosty the Snowman would be shameful. Though those were all enjoyable when we were kids, we haven’t had a real grown-up Christmas special in a long time. That’s where this video comes in. Because you guys have been so good to us all year, and because we know you all love Star Wars as much as we do, we just had to cut our own version of a Star Wars Christmas Special. So instead of getting a card in the mail,…

WoW Commercial Parody SWTOR Style

A parody created by Aaron G. Thompson of the Un-Official Star Wars The Old Republic Vodcast, based off of the WoW commercials (Mini Me, Mr. T – etc), and set in the SWTOR world. The Un-Official Star Wars The Old Republic Vodcast (USWTORV) hosted by Aaron G. Thompson illustrates news, current events, and community of the Star Wars The Old Republic MMORPG fanbase in a productive video format. USWTORV was created in September 10′ for the sole purpose of communicating released information of Star Wars The Old Republic (an MMORPG by Bioware) in a video format to the mass audience. Aaron G. Thompson who has worked professionally in theatre, film, and taught (improve comedy) class to groups; took on said project in hopes of sparking that artistic view he once had. Being out of the “arts” eyes for 5 years, he needed an outlet — a burst of confidence to…

Star Wars trilogy in Two Minutes (as a paper animation)

Jeremy Messsersmith wrote a song about Star Wars and created an accompanying music video animated with paper versions of all the familiar characters. As a creative person, I understand that it’s hard to let go sometimes. God help me if I ever get to the point where I have the time and money to keep re-recording new versions of old songs instead of writing new ones! Unfortunately, George Lucas (in a fate worse than Darth Vader’s) is in the horrible place of having had all of his dreams come true. Now he has total creative control of whatever he wants to do, hence Star Wars in 3D. Anyway, I’ve got a song called Tatooine with a new music video directed by Eric Power over at ericpowerup.net. We are both OT (that’s original trilogy) fanboys so I made a lo-fi song and he made a very 2D music video. You can…

Sith Warrior Gameplay Compilation

The guys ( or is it one guy?) over at Redrancore made an awesome  gameplay compilation of all the sith warrior gameplay showed so far. It’s deffently worth a watch. In my next addition to a developing series of gameplay compilations, I’ve created a mash-up of the skills and acrobatics of the Sith Warrior class. As with my previous Jedi Knight Compilation, not all of the titles for the abilities are necessarily accurate. Any constructive criticism is, as always, welcomed! Feel free to leave questions or comments, and you may view the video below:

Star Wars: The Old Republic – This is War

SolotheHawk has made a pretty impressive mashup of the two Star Wars: The old republic trailers and 30 seconds to Mars tune This is War. Definitely worth a watch. I know I’m going to be busy playing this when it comes out Spring 2011. I know I listed the music and the programs used in the credits, but I figured I’d list them here too. Music: This is War – 30 seconds to Mars Programs: Windows Movie Maker 2.6 | Adobe After Effects (After Effects was used strictly for making the credits and wasn’t used in the actual editing of the video) This is a fan-made video and in no way do I own any of the material used in it. Nor am I affiliated with any of the owners. Star Wars: The Old Republic is owned and developed by Bioware and published by LucasArts.
