Star Wars Retro games: Star Was Monopoly

Hasbro Interactive’s Star Wars Monopoly is a fully animated interactive PC version of Parker Brothers’ 1997 Monopoly board game, albeit with the 20th Anniversary “Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition” twist. Although the rules remain the same as the classic Monopoly game and the goal still is to buy up as many properties as possible and not becoming bankrupt, the setting is no longer Earthbound (as in Atlantic City) but the Star Wars galaxy from the Classic trilogy. In Star Wars Monopoly, one can either play solo against the computer’s artificial intelligence (AI), other human players (the “hot seat” option), or on the Internet through such portals as the MSN Game Zone. (Players who install this game will notice it will later show up on their MSN or Windows Messenger as an additional option.) While it’s always more fun to play against other people, the solo player game can be very…

Lucasfilm Look for Change Star Wars Expanded Universe with Star Wars Story Group

When it comes to Star Wars story, there are two sects: the original Star Wars Universe created by George Lucas himself. And then there is the version that others are allowed to change; the expanded universe. Lucasfilm now threatens to challenge all of this as we know it. As Bleeding Cool tells us: “George Lucas said that the Star Wars universe exists, essentially, in two versions. There’s his one, and then there’s the one everybody else can play with. In effect, this meant that anybody writing Star Wars outside of the six main movies (to date) was expected to adhere to one another’s work and create story lines that were consistent with one another. And then, whenever Lucas himself went on to create a new “core” story for the Saga, he had permission to overwrite or ignore anything from that “Expanded Universe.” But now, Lucasfilm are looking to rework the system and destroy this…

Charles Boyd tweets about new voice recording for SWTOR!

2014 looks like it’s going to be a good year for SWTOR! One piece of good news after the next. This time Charles Boyd tweets about new voice recording for the game. If you don’t know who Charles is, he is the lead writer at Bioware Austin for the Trooper class in Star Wars: The Old Republic. The tweet comes with the image above. The guy with the beard is Charles. The other guy looks like Brian Bloom voicing the male Trooper in Star Wars The Old Republic In LA again, recording awesome talent for upcoming #SWTOR updates 🙂 — Charles Boyd (@Charles_Boyd) January 27, 2014 I’d be really thrilled to hear that any of these names were in the studio with him: Brian Bloom, Nolan North, Natasha Little, Maury Sterling,  Euan Morton… and 11 other names –  That could mean new class story content. On the other hand, could also…

New Article – Flashpoint: Kuat Drive Yards

Senior Designer, on Star Wars: The old Republic, Jesse Sky posted a news article on Kuar Drive Yards, last night. The article describe the new flashpoint for level 15+ players that comes with game update 2.6. This will be a new type of instance that the team is calling a Tactical Flashpoint. The main thing that distinguishes Tactical Flashpoints is that they are role-neutral – in other words, they are balanced for a combination of any four classes. This means Group Finder will match the first four players it finds, which translates into drastically shorter queue times, especially for DPS classes. I’m not sure how I feel about this yet, as I fear there will be no incentives for healing and tanking and you will only perpetuate the issue of a lack ofsupport roles in the long run. Time will tell though. Check out the full article over at the…

Sony to Shut Down Free Realm, Vanguard and Clone Wars

Sony Online Entertainment announced that they be closing down four ongoing MMORPGs: Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures, Free Realms, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, and Wizardry Online. Free Realms and Clone Wars Adventures servers will shut down on March 31, while Vanguard and Wizardry servers will stop on July 31 Lack of interest is the reason for the Free Realms, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes closures. A Sony representative told Kotaku that all three no longer have the pull they once did. The player population has been decreasing over the years, and it’s just a case of these things happening. However, Sony did not offer a reason for the shutting down of Wizardry Online, though I wouldn’t be surprised if it was for similar reasons. Wizardry isn’t exactly the most popular series around. Michele Cagle wrote in a statement: At Sony Online Entertainment, we are always evaluating our portfolio to ensure…

TOR TV: Body floating outside republic fleet

Have you ever noticed that there is a body floating outside the republic fleet? A morbid easter egg in Star Wars: The Old Republic. I saw this first time back in beta, in the same spot, but I could have SWORN it was C2-N2. Wishful thinking, I suppose. As someone who collected frozen corpses in EVE Online, I feel a desperate need to scoop that. I was always wondering why the game told me i couldn’t use my escape pod right now, that must have been the player that discovered this bug on accident while looking for the john.

Documentary : Monster of the Milky Way

While they are difficult to see for the obvious reason that they give off no light, we now know that they exist because there are circumstances in which they can be located by their effect on other stars. Although it is difficult to to give a precise estimate of the number of black holes that exist because not enough is known about the number of stars that become black holes, astronmers estimate that there is about one black hole for every 10,000 stars, which means that the Milky Way contains at least 100 million black holes. At the very center of the galaxy lurks the darth-vader rock star, the supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A aka Sgr A*. Looming beyond the horizon of Sgr A*, if we assume Einstein’s theory of relativity that predicts what happens when a star collapses is correct, is a singularity. But it is a singularity that…

Building the LEGO Death Star

This amazing death star has over 26 minifigures, three floors, and a whole lot of rooms! I really love how much detail went into this thing. The minifigures are well done and finally Lego gives us enough minifigures to really enjoy the set. It has everything from the meeting room to the emperor’s throne room and the detention cell to the trash compactor. Really, really, really, really, really great set! You get all the classic characters, even a few versions of the important ones. The trash compactor is just all right, but most of the other moving parts have the impressive marks of Lego ingenuity. I also love that it takes a long time to build. That helps a little in terms of coming to grips with the fact that you just dropped $400 on a big toy. The fact that it’s 90% gray can get a little tedious. The…

Bounty Contract Event Returns – 2/11 thru 2/14

The bounty contract event will return on February 11 and run for 4 days until the weekend. If you are new to Star Wars: The old Republic, I can tell you that the Bounty Contact Week is a monthly recurring event that runs one week of every month. The basic premise for this SWTOR event centers around the Bounty Brokers Association. This organization, totally made up by BioWare, is overrun with the number contracts that it needs fulfilled and is willing to pay anyone for completing the bounties. (To be fair, that’s not too much different than a normal bounty contract, but let’s just run with it.) Participants can complete one standard contract and one kingpin contract a day per character level 15 or higher. Players travel to one of eight planets (two Republic-only planets, two Empire-only planets, and four shared planets), hunting down eight different henchmen and eight different…
