Knights Of The Old Republic Is STILL The Best Star Wars Game

Are you a fellow fan of Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR)? If you’ve been around our blog for a while, you know that we have regularly posted about this game and I’ve said myself how it is one of the best, if not THE best Star Wars game to date. Well, I’m not alone in this opinion. The Star Wars franchise is not putting out as many games these days as they once were, and there is a higher quality demand being placed on the games that do come out. But how do they measure up against a classic like KOTOR? This is a question that ScreenRant takes head-on in this piece that says KOTOR is STILL the best Star Wars game. The author, Derek Stauffer says: Knights of the Old Republic was one of the first Star Wars stories of its kind. It ignored all mention of the Skywalker family…

The Future of Star Wars Games

You know how we love our Star Wars games here. It’s what the entire site is about! Well, let’s talk games for a bit here. I’ve been playing Star Wars games for as long as I can remember and every time a new one is in production or released, I’m excited to try it out. Admittedly, they’re not all for me, but that’s the beauty of the Star Wars universe and the popularity of it all – they just keep making more games. But… what if they stopped? Or what if the games they make aren’t the ones the fans really want? Or what if we get bored of the same old, same old they keep shoving at us? What then? This article from Hardcore Gamer discusses the topic of the future of Star Wars games and we think they have some really great points. So rather than say again…

SWTOR: Tank Balance Changes in Game Update 5.9

Game update 5.9 will see quite a lot of changes to tanks in the next game update.  Here are more info: Let’s talk about the changes coming to Tanks in Game Update 5.9. There are two things that informed the changes you will find below. First, “skank tanks” are greatly overperforming in PvP. This is a player who is using a Tank Discipline but equipping DPS gear. Second, when comparing all tanks (regardless of gear) against the DPS targets we outlined last year, tanks are doing more damage than intended. The summary of what we are changing in 5.9 is that tanks across the board will be doing less damage. To ensure that this doesn’t have a negative impact on their ability to tank/hold threat, we are greatly increasing their overall threat generation. This will mean that although they will commit less damage to an encounter, holding threat will not…

Microsoft to acquire Electronic arts and Valve?

Here is an interesting rumor that made the news yesterday.  “A reliable source close to Microsoft” with reports of “internal shifts” told Polygon , that Microsoft is creating the necessary situation for an acquisition of Electronic Arts, Valve and Korean outfit PUBG Corp. The reason for the buy up should be to get more exclusives games to the XBOX One. A large acquisition of this nature, especially of publishing titan EA, would be a substantial step in bolstering Microsoft’s gaming software division. Buying Steam would alleviate their problems with the Windows Store. EA is about a 25 billion dollar company. Valve is not a publicly traded company but it is estimated to be about 10 billion dollar company. (estimated based off primary shareholder being worth around 4 billion and holding over 50% of share and aligned with previous estimate growth) Bluehole would be a relatively small acquisition and not sure if it brings…

A Gem of a Star Wars Game – Jedi Starfighter

If you never had the chance to play the game, or if you’re just looking for some nostalgic fun, check out this Jedi Starfighter Retro Review from Joe, The Alternative Gamer. He says everything I would say about this game (and likely better). I was a big fan back in the day and honestly, I’d love to go back and play it again for old time’s sake.  It’s an all-around great game and a lot of fun to play. Some have called it “Rogue Squadron Lite” which is a fair assessment, really, but it’s still fun in its own right. The story itself is simple, but good enough to keep you interested. It doesn’t take away from the gameplay, but isn’t the best story around in terms of Star Wars games. That’s okay because Starfighter isn’t about that anyway. It’s about flying and fighting (duh). It’s really one of my favorite games…

Is the Battlefront 2 Campaign the Best Star Wars Story in Gaming?

There hasn’t been a great Star Wars game with a quality story since The Old Republic. Those of you who have been here with us since the beginning know that it’s been nearly 6 years now. Needless to say, we’re overdue a new game with a great story. Will Star Wars Battlefront be that game? Some have hoped for it but the first game didn’t measure up. So did DICE listen to the fans for the sequel? Some say yes. Time will tell for sure. Early access was given to a handful of gaming reviewers and from that, we ask the question: Is the story any good? Gamerevolution seems to think it was. From their preview of the game: “My time with the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign has shown there’s hope that Star Wars storytelling in video games isn’t dead.” Okay, I’m intrigued. Tell me more… He says this…

Star Wars: The Card Game – Yay or Nay?

“Pilot card” (CC BY-SA 2.0) by dave_banks_geekdad Since December 2012, Star Wars: The Card Game has been ‘a thing’. In fact, even those unfamiliar with the film franchise may have played this two-player Living Card Game (LCG) set within Episodes IV, V and VI of the Star Wars story. With the next Star Wars film, The Last Jedi set to reach our cinema screens next month, this card game is almost certain to get some game time over the Christmas season, so we thought it’d be a good idea to give you the lowdown on the mechanics of the game and why it is winning over a new generation of Star Wars fans. How does it work? The basic concept of the game is that player one takes charge of a Light Side faction card deck e.g. the Rebel Alliance, while player two controls a Dark Side faction card deck e.g. the Sith…

The Best Star Wars Games So Far

The Best Star Wars Games So Far When it comes to video game adaptations of films or licenced properties, the Star Wars franchise is certainly one of the most successful, having maintained a reasonably high standard of games over the years. This is not to say there haven’t been any duds. We are all keenly aware of how bad Force Unleashed 2 was; challenging the prequel trilogy for worst Star Wars idea/execution ever. That being said, there have been some absolutely stunners that recreate the Star Wars universe in magnificent detail and enhance the franchise in every way. Here is a short list of games that will go down in history as the best so far. Star Wars: Dark Forces One of the earliest and most revolutionary Star Wars games to take the franchise to where it is now was Dark Forces. This game did a brilliant job of bringing…

Star Wars vs Eve Online

How does Star Wars stack up against Eve Online? Here is a three-part video series that compares the two. It’s actually interesting and can be a lot of fun to think of the different scenarios that could exist, the different ships and how they fare against one another. The first video runs a bit long (about 16 minutes) but it’s worth it and the 2nd and 3rd parts are shorter so go ahead and check it out for yourself. Basically, they set up a story-based scenario where a Star Wars ship is paired with a ship from EVE Online  to see which would win and how they would match up. I find this really interesting and fun because I’ve always loved Star Wars and when I first saw EVE Online, I compared it personally to Star Wars. I couldn’t wait to try out the game myself, fly the ships, and…
